Been wondering lately if this skill is really worth using, I know it shortens the duration of fire and flooding by 15% and so reduces damage by 15% , but to see the benefit of that reduced duration and damage you have to let the fire / flood run its course (?), use of a DC party before the fire / flood finishes naturally surely negates any benefit you get from the skill and the points spent on it (?). Still not sure or if I'm even looking at this the right way...

It might be useful on BBs only. On cruisers and DDs the fire is too short so that's not as important to reduce the time.

On BBs at the contrary it can be very useful since most of the time you will not use your DCP when you have only one fire. Because if you do, you are most likely going to be the immediate target of all fire spammers of the enemy team that will try to put 3 or 4 fires on you that you will not be able to extinguish or even worse you could get a flooding witch happen more often than not in a BB.

Usually people chose either Basic of Survivability or Fire Prevention. I used to play BoS but now I use Fire Prevention for less fires but longer duration.

Thx for the responses, FP does seem a better way to go &, 95% of the time, I do leave a single fire to burn, but especially in a BB how often do you have just one fire?

As a BB you also let two fires burn, depending on situation even three fires.

On rare occasions I even left 4 fires burn, since I knew that one or more would go out in a few seconds anyway.

With BoS, Damage Modification and Flags, fire does not that much damage. Damage that can be repaired 100%.

You can let a single fire burn to save damage control for more crucial events, such as floods, and with BoS, DCM2 and India Yankee you will take only 10.4% of your hp in damage compared to the regular 18% so leaving a single fire is safer and more recoverable (since most repairs restore 14%/16.8% of hp).
