I have hated the US BB line, mainly due to the speed, or lack of it.

I'm up to Colorado atm so no real reason to buy West Virginia, and I'm hoping the North Carolina will change the pace once I can grind it, besides just unlocked Nagato which looks a lot more fun.

Must say whoever paints the Captains portraits has got a lot better, Wargaming should get them to give the existing ones a make over

I would love to have more portraits and the ability to change the portraits of my existing captains.

Probably too much work to be viable, but it would be nice to have the option for standard captains of some sort of 'face generator' (like you have when creating a character in games like Fallout/Skyrim etc.): create the look you want, snapshot, and that becomes the 'avatar' for that captain...

Exactly. Also, from what I have seen her gun performance is woefully inconsistent.

It probably is, if it is the same as Colorado. I remember having a New York in a Colorado game.

So I think, hey, free food. And he was near me, too. So... never even managed to hit him all game.

To me it seems like a paid way to have a Colorado that never gets T9.

But, thinking about that.... it may be a wise choice:Smile_trollface:

Can imagine most people on here would end up with Captains which make the Halloween captains look boring and conventional lol

I hope T8 has a better US BB... else I'll just start grinding the IJN line and Za Zhermnans, see if they have any better.

Both US and RN have been very likeable upto T6... after  that... well... midlife crisis seems to set in, sort of.

I think I know now why some people Free--XP certain ships. You live, you learn (you die because of burn).

North Carolina? Great ship. I don't play Tier VIII much due to the constant feeling of being food for Tier X captains, but NC gives you the feeling you can compete. Worth every second spent grinding through Colorado.

I got it. And is everything I expected.

It's a colorado hull with less Hp, but same armor as both Colorado and New Mexico. Colorado is a pretty well armored T7 BB, with a rough as nails belt and difficult to citadel unless full broadside on.343mm with a sloped 51mm turtleback inside. At T6 that kind of armor is the best of the tier, hands down and without discussion (a case can be mounted about Bayern because of the thicker,  better sloped turtleback, but it's a tie at best).

The guns are monsters. Straight and simple. Yes, they may have a slightly lower sigma than Colorado but if something Musashi has taught the players of this game is that monster guns for the tier >>>>>> sigma. And those 16'' guns are just ridiculous for T6, it's the same shell as Colorado, so it doesn't share Mutsu's "bad pen" syndrome at all while keeping all the traits of guns that big and all the virtues of tremendous penetration.

It's only 8 guns but 30 second reload. New Mex (and Arizona) fire each 35 seconds and that's a noticeable difference, as is the ability of the WV to overmatch any armor it faces except that of T8 BBs. Dispersion is not great but is not god-awful. I wouldn't call the guns consistent but they won't make you pull your hair in desperation either, something that other ships are remarkable for (namely, Bayern), and they more than compensate for it by their capability to trash anything they touch.

Range is perfectly fine. 16km base but you're going to use artillery plotting room, so that's effectively more than 18km. And with spotter plane you can confortably shoot at 20km+. Absolutely no issue there.

Rudder shift isn't brilliant but I guess that being used by now to the big boys at T10 I don't really feel it being sluggish in that way. And once in a turn the ship can do pretty tight turns. It's not FAST in a turn but it can turn in a dime, so it's a very good torpedobeater, something shared by the other american Standards.

Downsides are speed (duh), low hp count (50k ain't much) and mediocre AAA. The latter is manageable specially if you know to stay close to support.  Speed I don't mind because I knew what I was getting, and because I always loved New Mex and Arizona no matter them being slow. Low hp count is an issue however, it's 3k-ish less than a fully upgraded new Mexico and a whooping 7k less than Arizona. This thing kicks enemies around like a mule on steroids but ,while not being a glassy jaw (like Mutsu) because it's armored to the teeth for the tier, it doesn't like taking big hits.

I'm seriously left wondering what the heck do people expect of an american T6 BB. This is without discussion the most powerful of the three available (New Mex and Arizona have NOTHING to do in front of a WV) because those guns simpy take no prisoners... and if it's not the strongest BB of the tier it's very close to be so, and the only reasonable doubt about it is the lowish hp pool, so I'm very hesitant to rank it over Warspite because Warspite is still able to overmatch most stuff it meets while having that amazing heal. But it's close. VERY close.

The ship is just excellent for my taste, but hey, that's just my opinion about it.

I know the grandeur of the Tier X feeling. Playing Monarch at the moment. Bone-Argh.

But I need to grind through it to get CB with my clanmaties. After that... nicely back to T5/6/7.

I have Texas and Arizona... And I sort of like the Colorado, but not that it gets T9 constantly. Too much HE spam there.

Indeed this T6 West Virginia may be a good deal. 6x350 =  2100HP so that is also 'fixable' by captain. Hmmm... hope it comes for coal, sooner or later.

What would that say about me... then I'd have 3 premium US BBs... First getting Warspite though if it is on X-mas sale (and I have Hood, too...).

Does it get Colorado's repair party?

not that I know of. Repair scales with hp, has same duration as in Arizona, but repairs 310-ish hp per second vs the 380-ish in the arizona. Which means is a standard heal.

That's kinda sad. Not that I don't believe you that it's a strong ship still, but that repair party together with 59k hp sure was nice at T7. Guess at T6, you get the effective hp pool nerfed drastically, as well as hp and that's how it is balanced. Oh, and 0.1 lower sigma.

I'm really tempted.

By watching Flamu's video about her... meh ship.

Flamu isn't  the end all be all to game content. In fact, sometimes I do the exact opposite of what he says. He has his play style. I have mine and I suit my ships for my play style, not his.  Just like his Leg mod opinions. They're just that-opinions.

So given that we have Mushashi (Yamato guns at Tier IX), West Virginia (Colorado guns at Tier VI), can we have Repulse? Tier VI guns as Tier V would make just as much sense....

Besides big guns, nothing special about this ship. Totally agree with him about that. Same as Mutsu... glass cannons. Dispersion is awful maybe even worse than Mutsu. Plus the speed is shite. Never liked the Colorado mostly because of the speed and that's the same reason why this ship is also meh for me.
