The trick seems to be to avoid getting spotted as much as humanly possibly, as you're often all kinds of dead when someone does see you. Sort of like RN DDs, I like that smoke. But I already have the very powerful Campbelltown to train the DD captain.... 1 minute ago, Verblonde said: If you ever can switch between RN and Commonwealth, there might be something to be said for sharing a captain between Perth and Belfast...? Yes, and if you EVER can get Belfast again... too bad they ff-ed that one up... or maybe not Man that is a lot of salt there, but I AM seriously learning some stuff here. Mainly that some stuff is just stuffed up, like we do not have a premium RN cruiser and I want one. Now THAT would be worth the grind.

The other sister, the Marblehead, is the worse. Not to mention she is cheap as a T5 prem. http://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Murmansk Considering it... might do it if I get a Russian 10p captain from somewhere. Still rather have Warspite, I think. Well we'll see what christmas brings.

The PA DDs are a better analogy; Perth's smoke allows you to potter along for ages (relatively speaking) at about 1/4 speed, staying cloaked, whilst avoiding a lot of torps, and still firing at things spotted by your plane (or, if you're lucky, your team-mates). Edit: Haida can pull the same stunt as well, but lacks the spotter plane (ditto Huanghe too). Based on my use so far, the RN DD smoke is more about a brief puff to break visual contact (a la squid etc.), with only a short wait until the next puff becomes available... I do have Belfast (had a weak moment just before she was removed from sale), but I wouldn't say no to another premium - a Dido of some sort, say, or maybe one of the River Plate cruisers. Quite apart from anything else, it would be nice to have something that meshes a bit better with the main line's captain skill needs.

Try motoring backwards in the RN DD, the advantage being you can quickly brake/ speed forward if needed. Actually the only branch of DDs I'm not totally worthless in. Yeah, that indeed: "something that meshes a bit better with the main line's captain skill needs". Hood (or Warspite) seemed to be a perfect mesh for RN BBs... well... then came KGV, LOL. I do like my Leander a lot. Fiji, not so much though. Basically because I liked Omaha, and St.Louis. Dallas I like a lot less. And yes you are right, it also makes ME wonder. But I guessed I have to go through the filth to get to Worchester? Flint is kinda like a Fiji with HE and no heal i guess (better smoke). Whether that playstyle suits you I cannot tell. Fiji is one of my favorite ships in the game :) As to USN cruisers, grinding the mid-tier ones almost drove me insane. I already had the DesMo when they introduced the CLs, so I only had to endure Cleveland (truly a pain these days) and Seattle (was reasonably fun once I learned to take advantage of its short range). Baltimore was the only one i enjoyed between Omaha and Des.

What Flint has going for it is T7. But it's steel - I'm going to have to grind like hell for it. Which is something I'm not prepared to do, I think. 15 hours ago, GulvkluderGuld said: As to USN cruisers, grinding the mid-tier ones almost drove me insane. Though NO DOUBT if I had the steel, it would be the ONLY ONE I'd pick.
