Ticking clocks and my hard time recommending this game

As the title tells, i am hesitant to fully recommend this game to my friends.

Let me explain why: The number of ticking clocks on content increases, we got them on free XP and coal ships (Musashi & Kronstadt will be removed, just like Missouri) and on rewards for events (Royal Navy). I do understand it for the last one. But for the others ?

A good example are three of my friends. I told them about this game, they played it and had fun. But they also want to get good when they play together and go for high end stuff, aka tryharding. They also did buy premium time and ships. Two of them were about to get good DD players and one a good BB player.

Then they asked: "Whats the best creditmaker in the game?" My answer: Missouri, no longer in the game, only for players who played from date X to date Y.

"What can we go for instead ?" Musashi or Kronstadt. Oh well, soon both get removed aswell.

What this leads to is that it forces people to play almost only this game to reach this content. If we want to take a break from WoWs, to come back with new excitement afterwards, we will miss stuff. Thats ok for ranked seasons, events and stuff like that. But for long term goals like free XP/coal ships ? Absolutely not !

Forcing people to play a game is a very bad way of marketing. People play it to have fun in the first place, some for free and some pay for it. If everything gets a huge grind with time limits, it takes aways alot of fun and turns the game into work for some people and they dont like to pay for work.

My friends went on to other games where content isnt limited on time like here. And i understand that.

The bad things are that i cant play together with them anymore, the community lost three players with great potential quite fast and WG lost three customers. I think they are not the only ones who left the game because of this and that hurts the playerbase.

That is meant as constructive criticism.

why do you think we have 'ticking clocks' on legendary modules? they are here to stay for a quite a number of years yet if you could be bothered to check on the forum, of course they remove ships, the Missouri was breaking the in-game economy, so it was removed, it's the same in tanks and probably planes too

Congratulation finding the most important part of his comment.

Search the Forum...the 1st of Jan date is only there because , due to the nature of the programming, they had to have an end date associated with them.

The date will be rolled over probably for another year and then another etc.....

nope, there are a few threads about this on the forum, there was a problem displaying the finish date (2023 i think mrconway said) in-game, which will be addressed in the next patch.

I get the OP's concern (although it's been stated several times by assorted WG folk that the end date for LUs is a place-holder - in reality, those grinds are live indefinitely).

You can make a case that perhaps the single most useful skill to develop, in the context of any game like this, is the ability not to mind missing stuff. There is always a risk in games like WOWS that one can become overly keen on getting everything that is available, at the expense of other things.

Assuming you have a life, it is almost inevitable that you won't/can't get everything that's available in the game; just learn to say "knickers" and keep the worrying to a minimum - in a decade, none of this will matter; you won't look back on getting your Tirpitz as a key moment in your life (I hope)...

I have this ability. I am not interested in grinding certain lines. And i only did buy two premium ships.

But for the free XP / coal ships these limitations are very bad. One might prefer to have a Missouri and a Kronstadt. Someone else a Alaska. You know, if the ship fits his style. Having the choice between all of them would be better.

That is like never getting a car, because you cannot get a Jaguar E-Type for a reasonable price anymore.

I mentioned them as long term goals. If they get removed, the motivation for some guys will drop.

I'm afraid that's almost inevitable though, as the game evolves with time, what's available will also change; periodically, stuff comes along where (for whatever reason, the game may change, or it was broke to start with) things need to be changed or removed from the game.

The free xp/coal ships are no different in that regard, although as premiums WG try not to apply nerfs even if they are needed.

I'm never sure to what degree I believe WG when they give reasons for removing things e.g. MO was, allegedly, too good a credit maker that was messing up the economy, or was getting too popular so risked breaking MM, or whatever the reason actually was.

Either way, stuff comes into the game, and stuff leaves; regardless of how you get hold of it, we just have to accept it (or don't, and leave the game).

Sort of related: I'm simply not good enough to earn steel at the moment (I quite likely never will be), at least not in meaningful quantities; depending on how the mooted Xmas/NY missions pan out, it may mean I'll never own any of the steel ships (which include the only higher tier DD of this general type) - my only choice is to live with it, or quit. We all face some degree of this...

if we cast a cynical over the situation, we could say removing the mushi and kron is a ploy by WG to get people to spend money converting freexp, but on the other hand why should every ship be available to everyone over the life of a game...

(and yes i'm happy i got a nikolai and a fujin/kami or even the su-76i in tanks and that others can't have them :P )

Presumably, they made a sack-load of cash from people doing that when MO got the chop, and had what might be called a 'lightbulb' moment...!

There are MORE than enough other long term goals.

At over 9.000 battles and three years playing this game, I do not own all Tier X and many of the high Tier premiums.

It will take me quite some time, if ever, to get Stalingrad. I am also expecting Alaska and the B-65. And you can bet there will be A LOT more interesting ships in the future.

Great point! :Smile_honoring:

I have missed every big Christmas Mission (so far) because Wargaming insist on time-gating the requirements.

So I learned that Wargaming's Christmas message is basically "Merry Christmas  - but only if you fit your life around us"

Jokes on them, this year my whole Christmas season will be away from the computer.

They're not getting a cent out of me.

REPLACED. Big difference there.

Also they can be dropped in a SC if you're lucky enough

JB and Alaska come in their place, just like Musashi replaced Missouri

long term goals like free XP

Tbh with the Operation Cherry Blossom (the t8 allied CL one) and CB FreeXP really isn't much of a long term goal anymore. Not when you can farm that much of it in such a short period

Not an unusual attitude, and if you read the OP's post without a chip on your shoulder you can appreciate he makes his points in a reasonable enough way, unlike many.

I do kinda query the 'get stuff' approach though, which applies in Tanks, WoWp and WoWs, where you start out just enjoying blatting things (I think I had more fun a a T1 MS-1 tank than any other tank in the game) but somehow you seem to get seduced into wanting some super duper ship/tank/plane, and you end up doing every mission thing you can to try to collect the lot.... you've gone from playing for fun, which does not mean 'not seriously' but 'for the enjoyment you get actually playing', to 'playing so you can collect things'.

I've been away from the brand for a few years, came back as I was a bit bored with other things, and decided to start a new account up rather than going into the one I last played at least 2 years or more back - I've given up the special stuff like the Iwaki alpha (I think I got the name right) , The Gremyaschiy DD and Aurora, probably a few others.  and I'm having a fine time learning how crap I am at this game all over again. I'm not missing my old collection one bit. Before anyone points out my stats I'll mention that I'm 63 and partly sighted, so finding the computer is a win these days.

Grind for stuff by all means if you truly want it, but don't let it bother you if all you get from the game is some fun lobbing shells around in a tier 2 coop match. I'd say, from experience in all three of the games, that the reward ships, planes and tanks are nice to see in your port/hangar/garage but you seldom end up thinking 'this is the best ship I ever played'.

@Bigglesof120 Good answer!

BTW if you *can* log into your old account, and it used to be used for playing tanks, and you registered it for WOT in 2014 (I think) or earlier - it might be worth having a short blast on tanks with it at least: anyone whose account is four years old plus appears to get a rather promising looking T6 premium (the reincarnation of the T-50-2)...

Worst thing by far in this game and why i would never ever recommend it to anyone is player base. IT IS OUTRAGEOUS STUPID AND i could use many many many many other words about it, but you get the picture. This game has brought me so much psychological suffering, anger, rage, i can not describe it with words.

WHY THE HELL ARE PEOPLE SO DUMB????????????????????????????????

Yeah, i would never recommend this game to anyone, ever.

I'm sorry to hear that you are so distressed; it does rather beg the question though why you're still apparently actively playing - 325 games in the last three weeks, and several new ships...?

Not trying to be a smartass - genuinely curious.

Because i have noting better to do. Literally nothing. I like concept of the game, i like graphics, ships design, overall concept is good. I have tried every possible other game, watched all kinds of tv shows, in the end this in a way best to kill time. But it is also so WORST & UTTERLY FRUSTRATING. Good thing is, here i get to play with and vs other people, not dumb AI in solo games, but that is also THE MOST WORST THING THERE IS.

That is why i recommend not to play this game, if you will like some of it and you get hooked, your life will be destroyed, blood pressure thru the roof and anger, anger, anger at stupidity of humanity and ret___ded RNG and MM.
