Sunk without being hit! Please help with technical explanation

In my last match I dodged a salvo from a Yamato. As the post match report says, none of them hit. Yet the salvo sunk me.

I'm not clever enough to understand what went on here.

Can any technical whizz explain please?

Detonation triggered by HE splash damage.

Perhaps the shell exploded underwater near your ship. The shell's blast radius hit your ship's magazine. If not, it might just be a weird bug where no hit was detected. I guess an 18.1" shell will have a massive splash radius - you have peobably seen when BB's near-miss DD's and knock out torpedo tubes or rudders while doing no damage. This is likely the same thing, just more extreme.

HE shells that didn't hit your ship can't do damage to your ship, only modules, for a while already - also this is mentioned in that same video linked above. That means no detonations or fires. They have to hit you for it.

 

Do you have a replay of the match?

Erm, have you watched the video?

 

 

Link with timestamp to the relevant part, where they clearly and beyond any doubt say that even on a miss, an HE shell's splash damage will still damage any ship modules within its splash area and can cause magazine detonations.

Many Thanks for all the replies. A near miss causing damage is actually realistic, (Seems a bit extreme to actually sink the ship with one though)

 

I'll add this to the list of frustrations of the game.  I'm now up to 1,988,378,341,904,259,337,340,217.

The plot thickens.

I start to think detonations are mostly considered fine because people have yet to realize how broken that :etc_swear: is

 

Sarcasm on topic: OP shouldn't have played the inferior class that is prone to detonations: the DD. :Smile_sceptic: (or use Juliet Charlie flags! you have ten at least of those now right? /s :Smile_ohmy:)
