Does this matter somehow to how the person in question has essentially stated that the Asashio is garbage (which reflects the opinion of pretty much every skilled DD player here), which you're still vehemently denying by pointing towards your garbage performance in her?

...so yes, the Ninja (=black-camo) version of Asashio (VIII) is gone now (not for purchase anymore)..BUT..still there is the great fascinating standard Asashio (VIII):

 

 

...only question remains...what's best: A) the 16km 72 knots or B) the 20 km 67knots torps?!?...having played hundreds of very nice entertaining battles with them both...stilll: i don't know for sure...still wonder...which torps are the best?....both doing immensely great (pose great danger for enemy BB's)...but still...dunno...

 

...any game-mechanic-experts out there to fill in this last question about the amazing Asashio?...pls do so, in time...for us...the playerbase?

It's funny that most call the Asashio a bad DD. I do better and cause more damage "on average" per game in my Asashio B, than I do in any other ships,  I prefer to play it now more than any other ship. Including the Massy B I bought also. The Asashio B (for me at least) is the best premium ship I've spent money on so far. I also have the Cossack, but I still prefer to play the Asashio B over it.

It's simply a good DD to play because you can dictate shooting range with torps, plus I think it's suits playing in T10 matches better than a normal DD with short 8-10k range torps, because you can avoid radar 10 or 11k ranges in the Asashio B and still fire torps off at unsuspecting BBs... without being radar spotted. Which in T10 matches (usually full of radar ships) half the time, it's a big plus factor going for the Asashio.

 

Gotta say, I really like playing it. The smoke duration is long also at around 90 seconds. Which I think is another good thing about the ship . And the guns are actually not that bad, not like some try and make out they are. They seem to start fires on BB and Cruisers easy enough, and I extended the range of the guns to nearly 14k with AFT skill. So then you have long range torps and pretty decent range guns as well for shooting in long duration smoke at distance to get some gun damage done also at a much safer distance.

 

You also can't knock it's stealth. I have 5.4 concealment on mine now. It a good all-round ship really, you can use its stealth for capping (but a bit risky, as it can't really fight other normal DD well if they spot you). Or play it more as a flanker torp'ing from distance and capping when there's less ships left in the game to worry about. All this about it can only shoot BB/CV only, that doesn't (for me) really limit the ship that much if you extend the gun range and use it in combination with a 90 second smoke screen.

45% WR and 34k damage is nothing to brag about. If this is more damage you deal on average then I have very bad news for you.

Last two games have been 70k and 90k damage tonight.  Sure, in some matches you listen to idiots in chat who ask you rush cap and get killed fast, then that brings your damage average down. That happens and getting spotted early does too by other charging in DD's. Keep in mind all that brings your average damage down, unless you do superb in every single game. But I've had over 100k damage a few times now in this ship, and regularly do over 60k damage in it.

 

For me in a DD, I ain't no meta top player. That is good for me to do over 60k damage in a DD. I struggle more to even do that in a T8 BB

I suppose if you want to be a team disregarding damage farming  then Asashio is a fine pick. For anyone actually looking to win however it is among the worst T8 DDs imaginable.

60k isn't even something I consider good when playing Harekaze and higher tier DD. At most decent.

But the difference is here : currently I'm grinding Jutland. My average is pretty bad with it... but most of the damage is done on DDs and usually one or two torps hits that bring it to 50-70k. That means I do damage on priority targets and usually kill them.

While with Asashio, with a 60k average you essentially killed a single tier 7-8 BB or got two-third of the HP of a tier X.

 

I let you guess which wins game the most, between the one that kill several DDs and open the path for his team (+ cap) or the one that farmed a single BB at best.

 

TBH, I'd like Wargaming to introduce a new stats, the "% of HP dealt to enemies". You would see for example a Jutland having a 250% damage dealt as he would have done enough damage to kill two DD and a half while Asashio would get something like 80% because it only farm high HP ships.

As far as which is best at winning games. A normal DD that can shoot anything with torps vs Asashio, that can't. That's fair enough if there's no BB left in the end. All I'm saying is.... I think the Asashio  is a good ship to play and others shouldn't really be put off by the fact it can only kill BB/CV with torps. It still has guns that have no trouble dishing out damage on anything due to them being 127mm guns. And yes, I know all about the Jutland, I started the other thread about it. You so called need IFHE skill for that, and the next T10 after it for the HE guns to work.

I'm only using HE on Jutland something like 20% of the time at most. The sAP are better at everything but killing angled DD. But you need IFHE for that...

I wanna see you fight an Ibuki with your 127 mm guns. That damage will be spicy on that 25 mm of armour.

Other DDs can torp the cruiser and don't need to gun it down. And some actually can (Akizuki, Harekaze). And T8 BB have not much of an issue penning T10 BBs at reasonable combat ranges.

don't forget the british ap wonders, those won't even need to fire HE, so that plating is of no real use... and when it angles it will use HE as every british DD has IFHE and 116mm guns with IFHE do pen 25mm of armor...

And that sums it up. You're still too new to the game to have a proper appreciation of what makes a high tier destroyer relevant, and what is a huge noobie-trap that seems great, but actually is of little importance for the class.

 

no offense intended, but until you have some better first hand experience (and results) on at least a couple of DD lines in the high tiers, your opinion doesn't mean much...
