I'd be interested in how well known he is among actual Hockey fans over here in Europe - would it be an idea to restructure the poll to:

1. Not a Hockey fan, have heard of him

2. Hockey fan, have heard of him

3. Not a Hockey fan, haven not heard of him

4. Hockey fan, have not heard of him

Because whether one is into the sport or not does make quite a big difference in weighing the responses in my opinion...

A) Im from Finland

B) The Washington Capitals are my favourite team from the NHL

That should answer the question already :Smile_coin:

on Top of that, Ovechkin is my favourite hockey player so :Smile_Default:

Probably you have too much ice and feel the need to use it... :Smile_veryhappy:

I only use it in whisky... :Smile_glasses:

I think its more likely to watch Hockey on a national level rather than a league from your country.

Atleast thats how it was for me, i usually watched the world cup or Olympics, but never was interested in any league (germany nor finland), until a couple of years ago when i got interested in the NHL. By watching those you normaly get to know the more famous players (to which Ovechkin definetely belongs).

Alltho the Olympics usually feature more of the best players, since the NHL does take a break for those, but not for the World cup^^ And the majority of the best players are playing in the NHL.

So basicly if you are atleast somewhat interested in watching Icehockey, you should know him.

If u are from like Portugal, Spain or some other warm country I would be surprised if u knew a lot about hockey, in Russia, Scandinavia, North America and northern Europe (countries where they have winter) hockey is a popular winter sport. I have heard of him but I am not a big hockey fan

Not a hockey fan, never heard of him. Not a big fan of any "real life" sport to begin with so that's to be expected.

Ice Hockey is a great sport, but in many countries it's either not televised or only on very specialist channels so it has next to no exposure.

I'm a Brit where Ice Hockey is never shown, but I've seen Ice Hockey while working in a few countries where it's popular or with people that are obsessed with the game like the Canucks tend to be.

I admit I've never heard of this guy so it's very much a case of "who cares?"

Don't really follow any sports, except the adventures of our national hockey team, but still I have heard about him before this collab.

Yes, I know about him. Greatest ice-hockey scorer of all time probably. Won a Stanley Cup the most recent season after 13 years or so in the NHL. Probably in a three man race to contest for the scoring title this year again.

edit: If you're a fan of ice-hockey, you will have heard of him, unless you've got a very narrow scope of interest. Of the current players Ovetchkin might be the biggest star. Of the active players you've got Sidney Crosby and Connor McDavid too, but I doubt they are more known in the world.

Growing up in Australia we knew what an Ice RInk was but not much about Ice Hockey apart from what I saw in the movie Slapshot (the 1977 Paul Newman movie - it's great watch it sometime (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0076723/?ref_=nv_sr_4 )).

I have travelled to Canada and the USA following F1 GPs  and my friends in Totonto do follow Ice Hockey and I picked up some knowledge from them (I think we watched some of a Stanley Cup game in 1993 when we were at Indianapolis for the Indy 500 in 1993,

There is no way that any hockey fan doesn't know him.

Well I heard of him before and I only follow Icehockey during olympia or world cup/ europe cup. League games only some DEL games if they are in the free tv and nothing else to watch. But yes he is a big name in the sport.

Haven't been interested in hockey for a long time now. But I still know of him.

I used to trade hockey cards in my youth, but that was way before Ovechkin started playing. I had my Gretzkys and Jagrs.
