This is just some support I wanted to do for a history channel on YT, https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCP1AejCL4DA7jYkZAELRhHQ

It makes a weekly, +-10 min vid, regarding what happened in the same week in WW2, with a major focus on military and politics, all in a neutral perspective. It started a few weeks ago on september first, correlating with september first 1939.

I know a lot of you are history buffs, which is why I wanted to spread that info. That, together with the quite amazing fact they did the same for the first world war, starting in 2014 (so the time overlapped exactly hundred years). I wasn't aware of it when it started, but I saw a buttload of them later, and the quality is remarkably excellent, for what in the end is an amateur project. (can be found at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCUcyEsEjhPEDf69RRVhRh4A)

I hope this post can stay. The project is non profit, and I am not related to it.

It's extremely recommended, and one of those things that makes the internet truly worthwile.

Indy Neidell, the guy who makes the vids, also started a project about the inter-war years, it will run parallel to the WW2 series.

I wouldn't call a historian with a degree an amateur, especially since the WW1 series was made by a media company.

Amateur often has a negative connotation, which wasn't what I intended.

Strictly speaking, it just denotes the opposite of professional. In this context it would mean the people in the project do what they do for a profession and/or a living. Which isn't. The "non-professionalism" has no negative meaning here. Compare it to the vast part of coders involved in the development of the linux kernel. I guess Linus gets payed, but the other hundreds (thousands?) of coders don't, and are amateurs as well.

And why exactly did you post this in the "gameplay" section and not in offtopic?

Cause this is the only part of the forum I know :Smile-_tongue:

Seriously, yea, you're right. I am really quite unfamiliar with other parts of the forum though, and the thought hadn't occurred to me. But don't worry, it'll be transferred soon enough...

@Saiyko

For the historical side of things that channel isn't bad, follow it myself for almost a year now.

If your interested in the military side (technic, tactic, military leaders ect.) I can recommend this channel: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCK09g6gYGMvU-0x1VCF1hgA/videos

He mostly does WWI and WWII but also somethines other periods of time.

But beware the german accent, he's from austria.

He also has another channel where he discusses various historical issues, mostly military theory and "what if" questions. Here's the link - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UChImwmytehS5SmlqMkXwoEw

The interesting thing about the author is that he is a military historian who has worked for the Military History Institute of the German Army in Potsdam. He's also a nerd, so expect ponies in his videos. Yes, those ponies.
