Hi all,

I wonder if anyone can answer a few questions please.

1.  When you unlock all the modules on a ship and research the next one, is there way to have all further xp earned with that ship sent to captain training....like in wot where you can click accelerated crew training upon elite of a tank.

2.  Can you swap captains from 1 ship of same nation to another of same nation without any penalties….   in wot you have to retrain but dont see that in wows

thanks  for taking time to read/reply

1. There is no need for that, all XP = captain XP + bonuses for certain signals and camouflages. Check the detailed report after a battle (last page) if you would like to see the numbers for yourself. Click on the lines to see more details.

2. Premium ships don't need a retraining, you can use every captain of that nation. Tech-tree ships (a.k.a. silver ships) need a retraining. From the official wiki:

Quote

Retraining Commanders

Once assigned to a researchable ship out of the regular tech tree, a Commander's skills can only be utilized on that ship. Transferring them to a new tech tree ship will require them to retrain, which is accomplished by earning a certain amount of Commander XP with the transferred commander in his new ship (see table). Normal commander training resumes once this retraining amount has been earned.

When retraining is required, players are offered several options:

  • Commanders can spend nothing, requiring them to earn Commander XP as shown on the table at right in order to fully retrain them for their new ship.
  • Commanders can spend 200,000 credits, requiring them to earn Commander XP equal to 1/2 of the Commander XP shown on the table at right in order to fully retrain them for their new ship.
  • Commanders can spend 500 doubloons, fully retraining them for their new ship instantaneously.

Commanders can also spend Elite Commander XP (and/or Free XP) equal to the remaining cost of re-training, finishing retraining them for their new ship instantaneously. This can be combined with the 200,000 credit option in order to spend less XP.

Remember that while a Commander is re-training, skill effects are reduced by 50% and skills with a binary (on or off) effect are disabled.

The gist is:

At tier 5 and below you don't need to care too much about captains, sailing with 50%-skill captains isn't the end of the world.

Most cruisers and battleships are fine with 50%-captains, destroyers and aircraft carriers suffer from 50%-captains, especially at high tiers.

You can use premium ships for retraining without a 50% skill penalty. Start retraining the captain on the silver ship, then use the captain on a premium ship of that nation until he has enough XP to complete the retraining.

It's advisable to get a 19-point captain. 19-pointers earn elite captain XP which can be used to train and retrain captains of every nation. This isn't a viable option for new players like you, but it's a long-term goal you should keep an eye on.

Oh, and welcome to WoWS. Have fun! :crab:

Short answer to this part: no, unfortunately.

As to how to mitigate this, @Ze_Reckless has covered it off splendidly.
