Black Swan:
  • Reload time of British Cruiser Black Swan (Tier I) has been increased from 3 to 4 seconds. Armor-piercing ammunition will be replaced with high-explosive.
  • Initial velocity – 811 m/sec; maximum damage – 750; Chance of fire - 6%.
With British ricochet angles and high volume of fire, it was the best ship at it's tier. These changes are intended to reduce its efficiency and equalize the performance of beginners and experienced players on this ship.

These changes are 'intended to' blah, blah, blah, but I predict they'll instead herald the demise of this ship type completely in competitive Tier 1 Random battles. When I used to do this, before running out of port slots (full disclosure: 213 battles and a 9-point captain), Black Swan was never the ship of choice for the real veterans; they'd go with either Hermelin and Orlan for the more preferable traits of speed (24 kts and 25 kts) and artillery range (9.0km and 8.8km) buffed with AFT to achieve 10.75km and 10.55km, rather than Black Swan's very situational AP shells.

Those 102mm AP shells are already plagued with shatter, ricochet, and over-pens, unless the opponent makes the mistake of showing broadside. Yet they claim she's over-powered? Well unless you're looking at the very narrow metric of top 5% of players (where her WR is 76.62% against Hashidate 76.39 and Orlan 76.38) for top 10% and top 25% she ranks much further behind those two in WR and average damage. In fact for overall damage she ranks 5th out of 7. High volume of fire output doesn't translate into high damage numbers, obviously, due to the above-mentioned outcomes frequently observed.

With this nerf she'll have the joint worst speed, poor range, the smallest guns with poor burn % that don't reload any faster than the typical 5" guns of her opponents, and no chance of penetrating the citadel armour of Hashidate or Hermelin... Yeah, great idea on paper, but is it just me or has this come out of nowhere, with no consultation and no evidence to support their reasoning. If she was a contender for best ship before, with her RN gimmick, she'll just become truly mediocre afterwards, and Orlan will be top dog. That's right, the Russian ship.

The QF 4" gun was a Royal Navy feature on all of her small ships. They're supposed to be quick-firing by design, which means the reload should be faster than the others! If they hate QF 4" guns so much then rather than this mega-nerf they're inflicting, simply replace the ship type entirely with something more suitable for the 5" gun HE ammo standard of the tier, even if it's some paper project so beloved of WG to pad tech trees. Black Swan needs her gimmicks to be competitive: please don't implement these changes as planned.

Hunt-class Destroyer escorts could be a suitable replacement: same QF 4" guns except 4 of them rather than 6, and the fastest speed in the Tier :cap_like: (27.5 kts, woohoo) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hunt-class_destroyer and historically superceded the Black Swan-class in production orders.

Remember when you not only had AP, but could also division with Tier 10s for a real challenge? :cap_rambo:

Now that was playing Tier 1 at a competitive tier!

well one time one division of unicums accidentally went to t1 to check the ships there and they got owned by unknown clan with 19 points captains. it seems that that clan played only t1 (and had players with over thousand battles in t1). so while some may laugh, t1 is actually very competitive :Smile_trollface:

Tier 1 who cares

the amount of "veterans" that play 1000+ battles of tier 1 is astonishing and accordingly mind boggling...

Everybody knows that Tier 2 is where the pro players duke it out!

They never found the button to research T2 ships. As far as they are concerned - thats the whole game.

I only now bothered to read the entire post (had to first empty my bottle of wine, now im ready tho). Are you telling us, you are looking at the entire damage the Black Swan did and compared it to the other T1 ships? And thats its 5th out ot 7 is some kind of point? Wait. Ill guess and wont look. 6 is French and 7 Pan-Asia. Right? Might it have ANYTHING to do with when the lines got added? What do you think hm?

Thinking about it, it may well be.

The actual newbies get protected MM. So they will never meet the "competitive" tier 1, and by the time their protected status runs out they'll be at least tier 3+

You'll get some newer players that are out of protected status and starting a new line, but they will probably only be there for 1 game to get the xp needed for the tier 2.

More experienced players starting a new line are likely to just free xp skip since it's faster than playing a tier 1 game again.

Which leaves the "competitive" tier 1 guys mostly playing themselves I guess.

You have no idea what debates I recently had about whether Umikaze or Tachibana is the better T2 DD pick. T2 is srs bsns.

Personally, i approve of BS getting her AP removed, it's not like you can't citadell with HE in T1 :Smile_hiding:

Tachibana 76 mm HE with IFHE can citadel at T2. Without it shatters...

Sealclubbing is one of the most copetitive parts of the game...

The main problem usually is to spot the sealclubber in the enemy team right when the battle begins. So you either have to look for known names or clans or - the easiest way - for the Sealclubber's Ship of Choice (SSC) like Kamikaze (and her sisters), Nikolai, Prince Albert, Gremlin, Vampire... Another problem arises, when the sealclubber isn't a known player from a known clan and sailing around in something that usually doesn't qualify as an SSC. T3 cruiser St.Louis was one of those "hidden" SSCs, as there's always lots of them around in low tier battles, and most of them are played by new players that just try to gather exp to get to the next tier. But in the hands of a sealclubber, the St.Louis can be awfully nasty...

Then there are the sealclubber wannabees - like me - who don't go (always...) for SSCs - either because they don't own any (like me not owning Nikolai and Gremlin) or because they love the challenge to sealclub in official non-SSCs like Yubari (great SSC... when used properly it eats the DDs and BBs it can meet for lunch, with a full load of T4/T5 planes as dessert), Orion (yes, it has been nerfed, but it still clubs like earlier), Ishizuchi (the grandmother of BB HE spam...) or... wait for it.... the Krasny Krim! Yes, the Crispy Creme can (!) be a sealclubber, if you are lucky with battle conditions. You need islands - of course - and people hiding behind them. Some T7 BBs as targets are nice. The BaBByseals in them often ignore the rainbows of HE coming at them, as they don't do that much damage... but when the fires start. they learn how wrong that can be. KK has to stay away from cruisers and US/Russian DDs, as these can severly punish her, but most IJN DDs are nice targets. Especially the one SSC everybody knows as one - the Kamikaze. Whenever I play my daily match in my KK I rejoice when I see a Kamikaze in the enemy team, as then I have a main target for that battle: Club the Sealclubber... and it feels so sweet when I succeed... Okay, a couple hundred battles in a Kamikaze help to fight other players using it...

Another hidden SSC is the Minekaze. Yes, she isn't as great as she was before being hit with The Nerfbat. But with a 10 point captain in it and a bit of knowledge about "How not to be seen" and "Why BaBByseals always sail in straight lines" you can have a great time in her.

So, nobody should ever say there is no competition in sealclubbing... usually there's sealclubbers on both teams....
