Can I ask a question please why do you insist putting tier VII or VIII ships up against IX and X ships. these ships would have never meet as IX and X apart from a couple, did not exist until after the WW2, The biggest German ships were Bismark and Tirpitz. British were King Georg the V class. There we not any bigger ships until after the war ended. You don't have tier I ships fighting tier III ship so why do this, as having these ships, you stand little chance of making it to the end of the battle.

The game matchmaking from Tier 6 onwards is +/-2 (T5 it's -1 +2 as up to T4 it's +/-1)

Ignore the historical realism argument, this isn't a reality simulator.

Some ships do struggle when 2 tiers lower, most don't, plus the rewards for being bottom tier are higher. WG have said repeatedly they have no intention of changing the +/-2 tier matchmaking so I'm afraid there's no point complaining about it.

Well, I guess you want a ~3% hitrate as well because it is realistic?

so everybody would get a Bismarck and always be top tier, those would be fun battles, 12 vs 12 all bismarck and terpitz's, plus i don't see you complaining about being tier 6 and fighting against those tier 8 battleships...

It has been like that for years now and WG just does not want to change the mm.

FDG (a.k.a. H class) was cancelled was cancelled mid-construction

Izumo is one of the Yamatos projects, Yamato & Musashi were built

Iowa & Missouri were built, Montana class was cancelled in favor of Essexs and Iowas

Lion class was cancelled mid-construction

France fell before construction of Alsace could begin

GK, Conq and Republic are imaginary "what if" designs created by WG

In other words - do you even know how wrong you are?

So if you don't like +/-2 MM don't go past tier 4, easy solution for you

Tier 6. HMS Warspite, QE class, fought at Jutland in WW1 and numerous campaigns in WW2 such as the Mediterranean, Atlantic and D-Day.

Tier 10. IJN Yamato fought in WW2 in the Pacific theatre.

Numerous RN ships were deployed to the Pacific, therefore, it was feasible that Warspite could possibly, maybe, have encountered Yamato if circumstances dictated.

So the fact that nothing below T8 would encounter a T10 is something to be pleased about, surely? Unless you want realistic matchmaking.......

In fact I think most of the T5's served in WWII so could and in some cases did fight against or alongside T9/10 ships:

USN

  • Bogue - WWII escort carrier, some of these were in use into the 70's
  • New York - convoy escort during WWII
  • Omaha - in service throughout the war
  • Nicholas - paper ship, presumably same era as Farragut that served until 1945.

Japan

  • Zuiho - sunk 1944
  • Kongo - fought alongside Yamato at Samar
  • Furutaka - sunk 1942
  • Minekaze - sunk 1944

RN

  • Iron Duke - most of the class scrapped in the 30s - ID survived as a training ship/base until 1949
  • Emerald - supported invasion of Normandy in 1944
  • Acasta - sunk by Scharnhorst and Gniesenau in 1940

KM

  • Kaiser - scuttled 1919
  • Konigsberg - sunk 1940
  • T22 - WWII era torpedo boat - sunk 1944

I know I am beating the dead horse here, but we could go even more back, for example, Tenryu (1919) got sunk in the very-very end of '42, but let's pick the most ridiculous (albeit - as always - tragic) one:

Katori (T3) sunk by Iowa (T9).

Hi hanks for the replys and history leasons guy's, just getting a little annoyed as as I have the Cleveland, which was a tier VI but is now a tier VIII and it gets destoyed taking hits from XI and X ships. At least with the Edinburgh I can hide behind a smoke screen, but even that can be usless at times as  I have been sunk while hiding and not firing

I'm not that deep into naval history and didn't know that.

I find this strange, didn't wg have a real life example to fill that tier?

Unfortunately there was no class of destroyers built between Clemson and Farragut and the Farragut class itself was followed by a Porter class (8! 5in guns). Then there some classes with 16! torp launchers or very similar to Porter or Mahan....

The USN was quite small until the mid 1930's and there are surprisingly few options for low tier ships but then lots of options for T8.

The Omaha for example was launched in 1920 and probably belongs down at T4, but the only previous CL they built was the T2 Chester and that was launched in 1907, the T3 St Louis was a 1905 protected cruiser and the last of that type built, but then from the Omaha you jump forward 15 years and its the 1936 Brooklyn class (coming as T7 Nueve de Julio), followed by 1938 St Louis (T7 Helena) then 1941 Cleveland, 1945 Fargo and finally 1947 Worcester plus another 8 classes of 8 inch heavy cruisers.

It's a bit better with the destroyers, there are a decent number of WWI era destroyers but then a 15 year gap until Farragut turns up in 1934 and I guess that WG felt that the 5 x 127/38 was too much for T5 (especially because they could see T3 back then).

Perhaps WG could've moved Clemson up to T5, but then the 102 mm guns might be too weak at that tier (didn't stop WG with T22 though); there were a small number of Clemsons that were fitted with 5"/51 guns that might've worked but that would've mean a new gun for one ship only.

Getting bumped from tier VI to tier VIII, and suddenly facing tier X opponents in every other battle, means a change of pace and no mistake. The best advice I can offer is  to go back down to a tier you are more comfortable with, and take it from there. That's what I did, anyway.

Oh, and you might want to stop using 18-point Verdana in your posts. It's kind of like talking a little too loudly while leaning a little too close. 14-point Arial gets the message across just fine.

Once had a Katori (back then the T1 IJN ship) divisioning with two Yamatos in my team. Battle took place on Ocean of all maps in standard battle mode.

He won us the game via cap because he was the only dude in it who wasn't getting shot at.

It was the single most hilarious thing I've seen in this game to this date. :D

Something tells me there are reasons for that though.....
