Halsey Campaign Mission 2 Task 8

I have completed every task in every mission of every campaign in the game. Every. Single. One. I like the completionist medals, it was fun finishing all of the challenges set by the WG.

There is a single one I cannot complete though.

 

Earn the most XP on your team, gain a victory, and receive 12 "Set on fire" or "Caused flooding" ribbons in a single battle.

Tier IX-X Destroyers orAircraft Carriers only
 Random Battles only, US ships only.

 

This one is a bit annoying. I cannot make this one work. I am not that fond of the Gearing, I also sold the Fletcher, so that's out the window. I attempted to complete it with my Midway instead multiple times. I find it that if I go around setting fires and flooding people my overall performance suffers and I constantly get position #3 (roughly) whereas I need to be #1, because my team is basically too good. If I strike with intent to kill and control a flank I can get into the #1 rather easy but I will fail to meet the 12 required fires or floods. On crucial flanks where I can claim kills and help to achieve victory the enemy there is already on fire in multiple places, and flood chances on a CV are rather low. 

 

Anyone out there who has this task done already? And how did you do it?

 

I also believe that RnG Gods will have a big laugh at me and I will simply do this mission by sheer luck sometime in the soon future without even trying

Must be done with US vessels only.

Midway is the best for this hands down, now you just need to pray to find decent team to not be better than you xD

Darn, well in that case Midway is easiest for the floodings and fire ( but not now with all those new US CL ) but for being top XP.... I'd say stick to Gearing and hope for dumb opponents?

If you clear enemy hangar that will bring you at top of scoreboard.

Use dive bombers for battleships only so guaranteed 2 or 3 fires per drop...

I believe the main contributor to this problem is the campaign itself and the sheer increase in cruiser numbers because of it, never seen so many US AA and Radar vessels. And now with today's patch and the incoming Worcester this petty problem of mine will be prolonged even further.

I've been one fire away in the Gearing when all things lined up.... It's a very tricky mission to get done.

I'd just play gearing a lot. Don't even focus on the mission and you will get it done eventually.

I think I did this one. would have been Fletcher of Gearing. 12 flood/fire is not that hard in a US DD and if you do you are very likely to be top on XP..

You do realise you don't have to do all the missions.. You can repeat ones you have already done. You will not get the reward again BUT YOU WILL GET THE STAR.

Yeah this kind of missions are not especially easy to do. Let's take a closer look:

 

1st requirement: Victory

2nd requirement: Most XP on your team

3rd requirement: 12 fires or flooding

4the requirement: Tier IX and X only

5th requirement: Destroyer or Aircraft Carriers only

6th requirement: US ships only

7th requirement: Random Battles only

 

Thats right: You need to win a good to exceptional game, using restriced tier, class and nation (leaving at most 4 ships to do this in) in just one possible game mode and achieving a heavily RNG dependant result.

 

Thank god I am no completionist, so I won't actively try missions like these even if I have/could have the ships in addition to being a decent player...

Don't fool yourself, this is a CV mission. You need to get ludicrously lucky to finish this in a DD.

 

In a CV tho? Switched to HE bombs for one game in my Midway and finished it instantly. It's a laughably easy cakewalk.

Given my experience I am still learning the ropes when it comes to CV's, especially the US ones. I always bugger something up.

Other than that guy who got extremely lucky with torp floods, this mission looks nigh on impossible in USN DDs of which you only have the Fletcher, Gearing and Black to choose from.

 

 

Take this game for instance, it's probably fairly hard to carry harder than I've done yet I've only got 8 fires and floods from 4 torp hits and 372 shell hits.

 

123k and a Kraken so I really did get stuck into the enemy...

This task is the most difficult of the whole campaign, after wargaming is constantly working on prioritizing battleships, such as 2km guaranteed ship detection, the 1.8 km torpedo detection module or reducing the chance of fire to 2% for a demolition expert, this task is pure impossible.

Does anyone know the date when destroyers and cruisers will be definitively removed from the game ? The whole game should then be renamed World of Battleships, so finally the acronym WoB will not be confused with WoW ;-)
