Ranked Battles Season 9 - Discussion Thread

Come on WG bite the bullet and make ranked fun again. Keep the starting higher in the ranks dependent on your last season but no irrevocable ranks and no best loser star. Increase the ship tier requirement as you go up the ranks with T10 for the last ranks or if you like a fun tier for the last rank but stop this pissing about with the format as it's made ranked a truly excruciating bore and not even a grind, its like random on extra stupid this season. I can count the amount of close games at R10 and R9 on one hand with the majority being based upon who has the most potatos that can get wiped out with 13 mins to go, its a joke. So what if we get stomped for a while whilst the big boys come through at least everyone will find their true level and maybe learn a bit on the way. Stop kowtowing to the potatoes and noobs.

This season makes it more obvious than any other season before: you are punished if you play objective. The only thing that helps you progress is playing totally egoistically and farm damage as hard as you can. The way XP is rewarded for game play is totally b*llsh*t right now from a team play point of view.

Anyway about the season,

I mainly play ranked for rewards.. a lot of camo, dobloon, signals.. and flags for money..

I've grinded up to rank 10.. thats it..

beyond that point is madness..

 

and I just want to ask..

As a personal preference... My favorite tier is tier 9...

and it is well balanced IMO.. why we dont get a ranked season for tier 9?

Tier 9 would have been nice, that is before they added Musashi and well, even Missouri. Well, I mean nicer than Tier 10. (Definitely not as good as Tier 6 etc. but well.)

My opinion about playing below rank 10:

- if you play like a team, you win, other way you'll loose

- if the enemy plays like a team, they'll win, other way rng, skill, whatever helps to win one of the team

- if both group playing like teams, rng, skill, whatever helps to win

 

IMHO it is not so terrible as some of you declared.

It is a nice season, but WG needs to tweak the XP gain. If a dd player plays for the team he better hope the team doesn't suck [edited]because there's no way he can keep up to the rest of the ships in terms of XP. It should show in data for this Ranked season.

Some maps need tweaking too probably. Radar plays huge roles in some maps and it's not game breaking, but in 7 vs 7 and only 3 caps it can become very static and formulated.

Does that matter when the sides are matched class for class? It's star retention (XP), not WR you need to look at.

I think Tier X is awesome for ranked, it's the pinnacle of the game, that leads into end gameplay. i understand not everyone has or wants tier X, so i also think the two tier split works well too. Tier X does have it's own metas, and the XP thing needs serious revision. I've played almost all my games in DD, and only saved a star a few times, and yes i did call that wanker BB who sat at the border until the end of the game then rammed the first BB he could see, because "muh ster hur dur" and yes the wanker kept his star, and yes i'd like to gently kick in his nuts, with a baseball bat, with nails on it (sorry i'm having a moment) you get my meaning.

Looking at this leaderboard, there aren't exactly a heap of players that has made it to rank 1 by mainly playing the best dd by WR. There are some, but with various WR.

Somethings fuzzy with that, it says a guy ranked out in 5 battles? To the question, i think DD WR may have something to do with it being the carry class, so you're less likely to save a star because the XP maths don't like your style, but you're more likely to win the bloody game, if you play the class rather than entrust the role to someone else. If your DDs facepalm, it's nigh always game over, there isn't another class (cv aside) that the same can be said of. So if you're a good DD player play DD, just expect to have to carry yourself every game.

To some degree, and to a greater extent on some maps than others, yes. Not entirely sure it's that easy though. Often it's the the ships supporting the dds that kills the enemy dds. Rank 10-6 dds could decide games, but closer to rank 1, games become more tactical and more reliant on radar ships shutting areas down, bbs getting damage done and dds spotting the other dds.

 

The fuzzy sensation you're feeling about a guy ranking out in 5 battles is merely him playing 5 battles in YY, the rest in other ships. Incidentally he won all those 5 games.

Something needs to be done about the T7 battles once people have ranked out.

 

It's desolate and underpopulated, mainly because of the rewards. 

 

You should implement a multi stage mission that resets each week which rewards 9 containers and a super container as the final reward. With the requirement being top 2 in xp of each team win a container. This would require the player to be in top 2 xp in 10 games to finish the mission.

 

It'll make playing super league worth grinding again and isn't open to abuse.

Ranked T7 games are nonexistent. The rewards could be changed to get more people into playing ranked t7. At the moment it is just empty. Tried it at different times and always with the same result. The highest number of people waiting in queue were 7 people or so. 28min wait at the moment. This isn't enjoyable.

Here's Feedback :

 

I started a session today, having played 170 odd games and was at rank 2. i broke my own rules and played way more than i should have as i wanted to rank out. So yes i've [edited]tilted. As it stands i am at rank 2+3 stars, and 200 games. That is a 30 game session, i dropped to rank 3+4 ONCE! I got a star save ONCE! I was at rank 2+4 10 TIMES! Needing one star to rank out, and each time getting fucked by WG's incompetence. And no it isn't just a matter of "get gud", the fundamental reason why i haven't ranked out is as a near exclusive DD in ranked, if my team doesn't win i'm fucked, unlike the damage farming [edited] on the map border who get the saves. After 2 years the devs can't balance XP. That is utterly unbelievable, they throw crap at the wall and see what the pattern tells them. they should employ a fortune telling gypsy women to balance XP in the future, it would likely turn out more balanced that the monkey circus who programmed this crap. This season it's the useless fuckbars in their BBs who are lucking out because of WG's intellectual toilet, and their "hur dur damage" model.

 

 

Edit to add: i've just laughed at myself for getting annoyed about a silly arcade game, so i've had a zen moment. thanks for that WG, and no i'm not giving you money for that moment, before you ask.
