How to : Old version replays

The reason for every replay working only with the full old game patch that created it is obvious to me: every patch has different data files many of them specific only to that patch.

So, here is my Q :

Could the WG coders take their time to create a "Master key" version able to plat any replay?

The way I see it would be something like team 1 :  n DEFAULT battleships +m DEFAULT Cruisers+ ...     CV added if case is.

Plus the full set of maps (WG has archives of them all) and what else is needed so the game does not hang loading the battle screen as it actually  happens.
The reason we need this is that after a while we have no means to check what happened in an older replay, and we cannot download all the needed versions to find the replay we are interested in.

Concrete example: I'd have something really funny to post in the #funtage contest, but I also have 7 replays Kamikaze_Neighbors made with different game versions. Even if I'd have 200+  Gb of disk and find the seeds for all the version downloads ( which I don't), it is too much of a trouble.

Instead, a version able to play the action of any replays even if not accurate as original ship shape/name/camo, even just the mini-map action It would be most appreciated.

P.S.  "clientVersionFromExe : 0, 6, 13, 297724 is 0.6.13.?  -

The problem is, that this is technically impossible. It's not just inaccurate names, camos etc.

The Replay files only contain the orders that you and the other players give their respective ships. And the game uses these commands to play the same game again (replay the game).

Now imagine what happens if a ship gets a buff to rudder shift or turning circle. But the replay only contains the command "full left for 2,4 seconds". The games before and after this change would interpret the same command different and the replayed game would change.

Imagine the same for a ship that gets changed torpedo ranges. Or even worse, look at the upcoming split for the US cruisers and think what would happen to the T6 Cleveland before and the T8 Cleveland after the patch.

It may be ok for similar game versions where only new collections are added or something like that, but with every bigger patch, the Replays would change and that makes your suggestion impossible to implement.

IIRC some of the popular YouTube WoWs content providers that show interesting games from players on their channel(s) keep ALL different versions of WoWs on their PCs in different folders for such reason (i.e. if someone sends them the replay file for older version they simply use the appropriate version)... very cumbersome but, apparently, functional...

What do you bet that it is technically impossible ? To me it sounds like very possible. The lack of desire to improve the replay system is whats the problem. If you suggest how WG can make money from the replays Im sure it will be done by next week and include it as hot fix in 0.7.5 update ;)

Too bad only WG staff can resolve this bet but they will not bother to answer such a question.
