I'm that ancient). It was exceptionally detailed. Played in the Pacific. 2 modes: travel and encounter. When an encounter happened you could chose to take it or back off. Points were gained by tonnage sunk. You had a limited amount (quite plenty though) of torpedo's, weather conditions were active (good to poor visibility) and even 1 or 2 charges of "fake destruction debris." You could let some debris float to the surface, trying to fool the AI you'd been sunk by depth charges. Graphically it wasn't much of course but oh man, I played it for hours at a time! I think I played that - I seem to remember a lot of US subs? Gato class etc? That was a great game... (another old git) Edit: I think it was Silent Service II?
[KHIF] Akikaze94 Players 1,735 posts 3,523 battles Report post #52 Posted May 9, 2018 Did the OP played Silent Hunter? If the answer is yes, how and when could you think a such gameplay would fit in Wows? The only sort of sub gameplay I think would be relevant in Wows would be the modern nuclear sub style, but they don't fit the overall design/chronology thing. And you would have to add a whole new anti-sub depth charge gameplay, when WG has already trouble to fix the AA gameplay and plans to rework it totally. But wait... Scouting and unleash sneaky devastating torps salvos on capital targets, isn't it what IJN DD are already doing in the current game?
[NECRO] Deckeru_Maiku Beta Tester 6,636 posts 24,864 battles Report post #53 Posted May 9, 2018 Easy answer: I wouldn't. Subs don't fit into the game. Sub playstyle is even further away from normal WoWs playstyle then CVs. The only way I would expect to see subs in game would be as NPC vessels in combat missions. [KHIF] Akikaze94 Players 1,735 posts 3,523 battles Report post #54 Posted May 9, 2018 True, there is already a class that is not played by 95% of the player base C'mon, isn't an aircraft carrier more badass than a submarine?

It took me quite a long time to figure out how to deal with the DD's: surface and gun them down!
Skyllon Players 2,588 posts Report post #56 Posted May 9, 2018 How would I design U-Boat gameplay? Similar to Silent Hunter III, only with further developed GWX. Obviously. 1 hour ago, Akikaze94 said: Did the OP played Silent Hunter? If the answer is yes, how and when could you think a such gameplay would fit in Wows? Easy. He would only have to play using time compression and micromanaging like Korean Warcraft player on crack.
_LordLucan Players 161 posts 6,266 battles Report post #57 Posted May 9, 2018 the correct way to implement them is with dual exclusive match makers so in one MM the DDs, CAs and BBs are matched with each other and in other MM Subs and CVs are thrown into their own matches where they can't piss off the rest of us
[H_FAN] Gnirf Players 3,293 posts 67,255 battles Report post #58 Posted May 10, 2018 Does not matter, they should not be implemented. maybe scenarios if you do some convoy mission , but it is not suited to WOWs.
