PSA: Duca degli Abruzzi in shop

I'm not interested in it myself but (while checking prices of other things) I noticed the banner, and when I logged in there were bundles other than the most basic one. Seemed worth mentioning as no individual news post (yet) and not mentioned in the one about Weekly Missions and Specials.

EDIT: News post materialised not long after I posted, and explained/confirmed the meaning of the "teaser" about Double-Dukes.

No wonder, according to LWM's review:

https://forum.worldofwarships.com/topic/157327-premium-ship-review-duca-degli-abruzzi/

Apparently, in her current, final-release-form, she has been calibrated in such a fashion that WG simply decided to not mention her to any ill-fated potential buyers... The Italian ships are in general awesome, but this one... proceed with caution, and act at your own risk...

Almost as if an undergunned light cruiser with too little range, too little armor,  worse AP than the Aosta on T6 and terrible HE performance due to WG confusing SAP shells as HE shells at T7 was a bad idea.

They managed to shoehorn the Duca d'Aosta at T6, and now they're in quite the pickle.

Poor guy who modeled this ship.

Then again, it was still probably a more rewarding job than making the planes for the Fiji's catapult.

More range wouldn't do anything since the shells from those piddly guns release parachutes at 8-10km and turn into the world slowest falling firecrackers.

Legit worse long range ballistics than the Japanese 100mm guns.

I wanted to buy it, WG helped me decide against it. Such a great ship wrecked by the designer's inability to balance it.

And the nerfed HE shells. Poor Italian ships. :fish_palm:

They could at least have let the Abruzzi have access to her spotter plane without having to give up her sonar. One of the nicer points about the D'Aosta, in my opinion, is that she gets all her consumables without the agony of choice. And with their paltry gun range, both ships can really use that spotter plane, too. :fish_palm:

I'm relieved she sucks - I've spent far too much on WOWS lately, so it's nice to see something fairly dreadful be released; no danger of me buying it...!

It is funny that she has AA booster (and if you still added some upgrades) but still her AA is garbage that CV player can only laugh.

I went ahead and bought her regardless, due to her history. I'll get back to you on what I think of her when I am not sick as a puppy and can actually play her (damned flu)

Ah, but then again the same planes are used on the King George V so for all those months they could have been reassuring him that soon, soon his work would no longer be wasted, soon people will have to have one of them if they use a particular ship. And then they had the marathon to earn the Duke of York where the gap in the superstructure has been filled in and extra AA fitted in preference to carrying a plane, so his heart might have sunk again at the thought of people using that sister-ship instead.

Same for me, as I wanted the 10 pointer + the missions (which you do not get in tech tree buys) and I resaon like this, I start a new captain with 3 points, now it is many days with 200% first win bonus, combined with earlier trained captains in my GC and Aosta I have now 6 Italian 10 pointers in reserve + 6 p captain underway in GC and now this 3 pointer. So I am getting well prepared for the Italian tree.

Perhaps I should in the GC increase a few of them to 12-14 or so, but for me the transfer sweet spot is 10 at the moment, maybe 12. Better to have the numbers first , and take any higher training from eliteXp from all ships with 19 p. It is a tricky thing to optimize.

As I am a stupid customer :Smile-_tongue: who nearly buys everything, I reason if I do buy like an insane person , why not do it at the best time, the combination of maximum usage of good XP days.

Wonder if 25 XP missions will end before first win bonuses (if I stop after first win each day).

After a catastrophic first 17 games in Aosta with 3 wins and 14 defeats, its getting slightly better , the 38 games after that I have 23 wins 15 defeats, and most of the time grinding captains = end with 10 p reached.

She seems weak, let us find out if the heal makes her tolerable at least.:Smile_sceptic:

I did buy her and was underwhelmed by her performance but still another light cruiser can always be useful at some stage in some type of battle, I will reserve full judgement on this ship until I have played more battles in her.

I evidently did better than I thought as I got a win, more than 1800 base XP and caused more than 35000 damage with the guns as well, so not bad for the first run out in a new ship with an inexperienced captain in command

Duca D'Aosta is a great ship at Tier VI once you've ranked up your Captain and put CE on her. I think the new one might need a similar amount of investment in Captain skills too, as Tier VIi is quite unforgiving (ask Pensacola).

She'll make a cracking sale purchase.

Abbruzi shells are faster to 10km by almost 2 seconds (and fast than same tier RN CLs by 1 second)

Yes played 1 game at T7 as top tier and against cruisers of lower tier the guns wer Okayish against, Lost 55 K and sank 2 ships (2nd in table) but was then uptiered in a t9 fight and the bbs and DDs were so far back, enemy was bad so we won with ease but I never felt I could contribute and had a bad game despite that I survived , few opportunities in range for the guns (have def AA), shot down 1 GZ bomber /attack in two attacks=2. Were punished by a Fdg quite hard and had to be even more on defensive.

I think that although only two games she struggles to do much when uptiered, as a Algerie or Schors you can at least spam HE at range.

But she looks good at least:Smile_smile: and combination first win useless game gave lots of XP.

Seeing the reviews, I'd buy only in case it's heavily discounted during the summer or in Christmas. And by heavily I mean more than the typical 50%, kinda like the Ishizuchi deal we had a few days ago.

I'd be interested if they buff her and drop the price by about 30%.
