Prinz Eugen in my Port. Why?

After a 3 months long brake I re-installed WoWs for the ranked season.

Just noticed by chance that I appear to have a Prinz Eugen in my port. I didn't buy it nor won in a supercontainer or smt.

Can someone explain me why?

It's a new promotion to lure back players who were inactive. If you won 5 Ranked battles, you got a free Eugen.

I believe WG have been giving them away to encourage players who have been away for a while to come back.

 

Check you email for a message from WG about it/

Actually it's a nice motivation to uninstall and come back again a few months later.

I was actually planning do buy Prinze this weekend. Now, considering they are giving it away,If you do not play long enough, I will not.  Just not playing makes more sense.

like i said before i dont see a problem with them giving away welcome back gifts.. just maybe not high tier ships(t8+)... specially when active players didnt have any campaign for free high tier ship(last was takao some 2 years ago. i dont count DoY in this).

Wow you got 3 months of XP, credits, new ships to unlock and play, free premium Captains, a free T3 premium ship, lots of new missions/scenarios, dozens of containers with maybe even a few super-containers, Space Battles and even a new Free XP Ship etc!

Here, have t8 premium for free to try and make you stay playing the game & increasing the player base so queues get even shorter!

 

There's two sides to every issue and I side with WG on this one. If you want a single free ship then instead of complaining, just quit playing for 3-6 months (missing out on all the above stuff), it's simple really!

Ian, those items are not free. Free from monetary standpoint, but it still required some missions and effort (and time: the Aigle required to be in the game and do the missions every 48hrs for 1,5 months). Getting a nearly 50€ ship for doing basically nothing surely beats that. Maybe I’ll take a break as well, since that behaviour seems to be the most encouraged by WG.

If even you come to this conclusion, can you not see how it's a piss poor marketing move?

They could give some premium time, some consumables, flags, credits....
But nope, they go for a 40€, permanent and unperishable gift.

Well...they gave tier.8 CRUISER do get players back. Tier.8 is the single worst tier to start playing cruisers. While tier.8 cruisers are fine for experienced players. Starting up a cruiser playing carieer on tier.8 is just mindnumbing.

 

Basically many who recived them, are coming back, trying out their new ship, with high expectations and quiting again, after getting murdered by harsh 2/3 of the games against top-tier reality.

 

If WG would have given them Free tier.6 cruiser and cruiser-based gampaign( for everybody maybe), designed to edge them into playing cruisers- with a reward of getting the Prinz. I would have no problem with it.In fact, I could have been good for the game.

 

My problem is not that somebody got a gift.Why not. But it will not really work, tier.8 can be very frustrating for inexperienced. And it was a good oppurtunity missed ( again)

Tell me Ian, are the bits in bold free? I think you fit the textbook target drone-type easily impressed seldom demanding non-fussed gullible demographic most companies want in their stable of customers. Perfectly happy to wittle away their time 'earning' things one way or the other and thinking you got it all for free, lool. Have they stopped teaching common sense in school?

Eugen is a very expensive ship to give away too. 

 

I'd be salty if I paid full price for one and saw that some got it by doing nothing.

 

It's actually worth more than anything given away via the various marathons, arguably worth more than Black and Flint as those two ships need a huge investment of time.

 

Whereas Eugen is given to a select few who haven't even played the game...

Oh look another one of those "Why not quit the game and enjoy some qualtity familiytime for half a year" promo.

Really if I hadn't drawn Eugen out of a x-mas box but rather had paid full prize for it, i would be really offended right now.

I get where WG is coming from, but the pricetag for those things they casualy give away to returning players is just too extensive.

Not have a problem with giving returners nice gifts. They can have it i don't care. But the message this is bringing is rather insulting.

I actually quite liked my Hipper experiences. If Wg, in all its infinite wisdom, hadn't decided to make the ship eternal victim of its matchmaking rules (read: being bottom b1tch for tier X), I might have bought the Prinz.

 

But sure, give it away to people who don't play the game.

Yes, absolutely free, they cost nothing in monetary terms and only "cost" time which, because you like the game, isn't a negative is it?

As above , they cost nothing, only time playing a game I really enjoy. Plus, you also play the game daily, so the comment above really applies to yourself too. Do you not like the game or the time you spend playing it?

So no discussion where we can both give opinions and maybe start to change the other persons thoughts with a rational argument, instead we just go into personal attacks, right?

 

Anyway, as said before, if you don't like what WG have done you can either quit playing or stop complaining about something which doesn't effect you - If you quit WG are denied players numbers and might see an actual negative effect from their marketing decision plus you get a free Ship, but be honest with yourself, thats not going to happen is it. Oh you'll still complain and say "Grrrr WG" yet then keeping playing just like all the rest and why - because you like the game despite apparently thinking is a negative use of your time from what you said in the middle quote above.

 

I do however realise that people get heavily invested in their feelings once "money" (real or imagined) gets involved and that makes it highly unlikely that anything I said will make much/any difference to you or the many people on here who obviously believe I'm wrong and instead is more likely to get bogged down in a "me vs you" discussion which doesn't benefit either the forum or each other so this will be my last replay on this thread, just to allow it to return to it's original point.

 

PS As a much older player It does seem to be sad that the "modern" way is to demand things (or want others to stop getting things) because someone else (who got nothing while they were getting stuff) now gets something free - I find it all very infantile, like a child screaming "I want!!!" but that just my opinion, not fact.

Hm.

I was pissed the first time I bought the Mikasa (Don't laugh!), and then WG started to hand her out later like candy for some sh*te no-effort mission. ...then they managed to shaf the ship with the MM changes even more, but as it was a systematic change instead of a targeted nerf, I got no compensation whatsoever. So I got pissed off the second time. Lastly, many fine gentlemen managed to get to my knowledge regarding the issue that "she is a collector's ship anyway", and it's nothing wrong with paying X euros for a glorified 3D model in a game. So i became furious the third time.

 

...but it also was a very valuable lesson. Now I easily live with the fact that people might get stuff for "free" or even free - and there is nothing wrong with that; just because someone else has a hamburger, I won't have less hamburgers (unless if I live in a socialistic shortage economy) - , and that WG tends to on one hand sell 3D models with ridiculous, AAA-game-worth price tags, on the other hand, just when the imprinting starts to set in and I almost start to believe that "giving 40-60 euros for a ship is perfectly sensible", they start to throw them around like dirt.

That latter part is what's a very screwed up marketing decision, as WG works so well as long as they can make you believe that "Yes, this stuff does worth this much." I am one of them. "Ooo, look at that, a discount, now I only have to sell one of my kidneys instead of two for this random camouflage that gives 50% to XP, totally worth it! I'll buy more stuff though I did not plan to!" Now, giving away something that many people possibly consider the ultimate product of WoWs's premium shops, namely high tier vehicles, horribly devalues the entire concept.

 

That's the problem. Not that other people get it for free, but that people will start thinking: "Maybe I pay too much for this game."

Which we, let's face it, probably do.
