I belive every engine - like my car for instance - has at default certain power. But this power is provided on the basis of a calculation, that the engine will be able to provide that power for a long duration of time.

So in every engine, there is a potential to increase that power (and decrease the time of its life-span)

I see no reason why a big [edited]coal powered steam engine couldnt provide for a short amount of time a probably even significant power boost enabling faster acceleration and larger top speed.

well there are no buyable consumables in the game yet, so i'm sure one of them will be an equivalent to the unlimited speed governor in WoT, or 120 gasoline in wowp :)

Good idea, there was something like that in NF. And you could train engineers to prolong the engine redlining time.

I'm in favour of tug-boats at low speeds to compensate for poor fuel efficiency at high speeds.

And anchors for uber fast turning! Just the way they did in in the Battleship movie. Type "battleship final battle" in YT if you wanna see it (45th second). :P

In ships because of water resistance you cant really get large speed increases without significant horsepower increase. So overriding the governor so to speak, an engine could probably give you +20% power for a short time. That is not much considering for examle that BB Nelson 36,000tons had 45,000hp and could do 23knots and BB King George V at 40,000tons needed 110,000hp to do 28,5kts. Iowa at 57,000tons needed 212,000hp to do 32,5kts. The gains are pretty small comparing to actual neede power.

Chances are either the anchor chain just breaks or the ship is Party torn apart....this is something to be left for the movies :)

Either way, your ship will be damaged, you Need to add a sticker "Don´t try this at home, School or anywhere!"

Also remember that screws have a maximum speed at which they can be turned and provide efficient thrust, if you spin them too fast they lose thrust and just push the water side ways.
