  2. The USS Somers has recently been added to the game, so as a DD main I decided to check it out. I still can't figure out what makes it a "fun and unique" ship to play because of the following: -It is a torpedo boat with horrible gun DPM, but torpedoes don't do much damage -It has 12 torps, which is 2 more than the gearing has in game, with almost identical torpedo reload -It has horrible DPM, even with a gun-focused build you can only get the reload down to 4.8s before AR hits in (about 60k HE dpm) -Its concealment is nothing impressive at 5.8 it's around the average mark, getting outspotted by shimakaze and legendary module gearing -It has a small HP pool so getting close with that concealment is risky if you want to invest commander points in something other than survivability expert, but then you risk losing out on damage potential by missing out on things like torpedo armament expertise or BFT Don't get me wrong, it's not a terrible ship, but I believe it deserves a soft buff. Closest ship to compare it to is the shimakaze, which has the option to slot 1 of 3 types of torpedo and they all do damage that exceed 20k per hit. I think Somers could benefit from a soft buff, maybe take the concelament down to 5.7 or buff the hp pool or torpedo reload slightly. In its current state, I don't think it's worth its steel.

    T10 BBs since September 2017

A.k.a. t10 BBs since the release of RN BB line. Also actually 30th August not September 6 points with roughly similar "timeframes", as quarters of the year, EU: 1st through 5th taken from maplesyrup directly (and you can notice there's 1 week missing between Q4-17 and Q1-18, but there's nothing I can do about that), the last one (Q1-19 / marked by being coloured in) is not yet published as a full quarter (as it still lacks some 20-ish days to fully qualify for it) so I pieced it together from weekly statistics (note: week marked as 12th to 19th Jan on the site actually has data for 22nd Dec to 19th Jan) Oh, and Bourgogne is not included because 1) would be a single point - it doesn't exist before Q1-19 2) clearly not available to the general player base like others 3) very low battle count, in nearly 3 months collecting less battles as some others have in a single week And as a reminder - maplesyrup counts only solo games, no divisions included Have to say - that global WR drop managed to confuse and amuse me at the same. I'm thinking - key is the "solo only" part. Since CV rework BBs seem to have fared quite a bit better in terms of AA than many others, and if more of them are played in divisions, that could easily lead to more of a negative outcome for teams with more solo BB players Reminder: raw damage doesn't tell the full story. "% max HP" is what matters, but we don't have any access to that. Burning BBs for high dmg score is far far less useful than getting rid of lower health DDs and cruisers. Now, when we're past that I have couple of points to note: Firstly -> 6...7 of the 8 categories (depending on if you look at Q4-18 or Q1-19 for WR / 8th being Hitrate) show decline in performance over the last 1.5 years. So... I guess the rumour that the BB players are somehow managing to become worse are actually at least somewhat true. Magical Secondly - why is WG so eager to nerf Conq (the raised citadel tested right now, I've heard rumours of screwing with it's AP fuse to make it the "normal" garbage instead of the current short fuse), which in nearly every category is already worst or one of the worst performing ship? Where it leads are damage and survivability. Large part of its damage comes from doing "% max HP" based damage to ships with high max HP - BBs. This is also supported by low K/B rate (as this is terribly inefficient) and somewhat the low WR (as this would be very low impact damage). This, of course, can also be seen as the "preferred tactic" for most Conqs met in battles. High K/D is a simple outcome of high survivability cancelling out low K/B High survivability isn't all on the heal either. Especially with the low HP and absolute crippling of Conq by taking even just one torpedo or hitting it with AP instead of burning it like others. What would be the common thing that would ensure high survivability, while producing low potential damage received, low spotting, low hitrate? Range, or rather the tendency to stay at a noticeably longer range than other BBs do. Again, the "what does the Conq in my game do?" tends to confirm with this completely So, sure, playing Conq properly instead of as a long range HE spammer would increase its performance in multiple stats, but... it's not like it would magically jump above all others. Nerfing it could and probably will push it so far down that it will actually require a buff. Is the strom that would inevitably come with that the goal? Or is this simply based on "players find it annoying to play against", which is an extremely weak argument for game balancing?
  5. Why the USS Montana is perfectly fine as she is and does not need a buff I am bound to stir quite an argument with this, I am sure, but let me first present my arguments as to why I believe this. One thing is certain, the Montana is certainly not noob friendly, a welcome thing, in my eyes, in a game that is becoming increasingly noob friendly and bland. In continuation of this, the Montana caters to a different playstyle than her famed competitor - a playstyle which is far more dynamic than the dull bow-tanking playstyle of the top tiers. When taking apart the arguments most often thrown around on why she needs to be buffed, it becomes apparent that she is in no way inferior to Yamato. Neither does she seem to be to her german counterpart, though it should be said that I have no experience playing said ship. Like many battleship players, the first line I completed in the game was the Japanese battleship line, culminating in the Yamato. This was partly because the Yamato is undoubtedly one of the most famous battleships ever built, but also partly because more or less every forum post concerning the T10 battleships agree that the Yamato is a beast, albeit with weaknesses, as with all ships, and vastly superior to the dreadful Montana which is in dire need of a buff. (This was quite a while before the release of German battleships.) Thus I never bothered purchasing the Montana until recently, after having researched and played most ships in the game, and though I've had her researched for quite some time. The following arguments all assume that you're playing with a concealment build, which is in my opinion, playing to her strengths. Many of the points also tie in with each other. "I receive citadel hits too easily in my Montana" There is a reason for this. You are not playing her right. You should at no point show your broadside to the enemy when detected. Montana plays quite similar to the Amagi, a ship that I remember thoroughly enjoying. You have a menacing broadside, but it comes with a weakness. If you've reached Tier 10, there is no excuse whatsoever for not knowing this information already, as well as being more than competent at angling your ship. When angled, the Montana is surprisingly sturdy, taking minimal damage, even from a Yamato. Counter-arguments to this are of course that you're not able to fire your rear turrets when angling. Again, you've made it all the way to Tier 10, you should be familiar with wiggling your ship at this point. This is why the concealment build is so potent on the Montana: while undetected, you are able to show enough side to release your devastating broadside and being able to angle back before the enemy has a chance to return fire. Playing with the concealment build, get the rudder shift upgrade to aid in this - you don't need reduced repair on fire and flooding. If there are enemy battleships that have the opportunity to return fire instantly, let them fire off their salvos before you reveal your location with a deadly barrage of shells not even the Yamato can match. "The Yamatos guns are more accurate than mine" Yes, the Yamato has the most accurate battleship guns in the game, but the Yamato never really goes for a stealth build and often spends large portions of the game bow-tanking. Thus, the Yamato can only fire six shells at the time. That means that even with laser accuracy (which no battleships have), the Yamato is completely reliant on a substantial part of those six shells to hit. The stealth Montana on the other hand, doesn't have to depend on only six shells. Yes, she has worse dispersion, but the sheer volume of shells she puts out counters that. If you are bow-tanking in a Montana and only using your two forward turrets, or three turrets in case you're slightly angled, for the majority of the game, you're not playing her right. "Yamato is more manoeuvrable" Montana is actually quite comparable in terms of rudder shift and turning radius. This is assuming you're using the rudder shift mod as mentioned earlier. What mitigates the difference in favour of Montana is her detectability as well as speed. She has a much easier time disengaging and can trust her concealment to the point where she can turn undetected if not in the middle of the action (where you shouldn't strictly be as this leaves you vulnerable to flanking as well). The Yamato, for reasons unknown, is often more frequently targeted by enemy ships, including DDs, and suffers from worse concealment and might find turning and showing the side towards the enemy significantly more punishing. Not even the Yamato is immune from devastating blows to its sides. The Montana is 3 knots faster than the Yamato. This may not sound like much, and this might be slightly subjective on my part, but I find that I have a much greater ability to support my team in the Montana, owing to the superior speed, and I am less likely to be left behind by my cruisers (who often have an inclination towards advancing in the opposite direction the moment an enemy ship is detected on the horizon). This speed also lets you choose between more targets and as a Montana, nearly always on the move, you have a far greater selection of targets than the stationary bow-tanking Yamato, to which a torpedo attack or rain of fire is often inevitable. Fun-factor Finally, perhaps the most important point, the Montana is, in my opinion, infinitely more fun to play. She is a throwback to the fun of lower tier battleships while packing a significantly bigger punch. She offers an alternative to the boring and frustrating gameplay you often get with the Yamato, her vulnerable sides only offering more excitement, punishing the lousy players who shouldn't be sailing battleships in the first place. (It is also very satisfying to watch her shred enemy planes, though how she compares to the Yamato in terms of surviving aircraft carriers is debatable.) As you've probably noticed, none of the points above deal with one on one duels with Montana's counterparts. The thing to understand is that in many ways, the Montana plays similar to a Japanese cruiser or a stealth Missouri/Iowa. You are very vulnerable from the sides and you don't want to be caught brawling. Montana plays much more as a supporting ship and can play a much more significant role in aiding your team (by taking out cruisers and lower tier battleships more effectively than the Yamato). Your sea legs and concealment allow you to traverse the maps without too much difficulty helping your team secure capture points and strategic positions. However, and any tips are welcome to add to this, if you do find yourself in a one on one duel with the Yamato, your best bet is to close the distance and do a drive-by. This will negate the Yamato's superior armor and her turrets will be unable to keep up. As soon as you get close, lock your turrets to one side, pointing out from the middle of the ship, and as you pass the Yamato's citadel, let Montana's twelve guns tear her apart. This usually, if not always, results in a one-shot. I cannot give any advice against the Grosser Kürfurst as I have yet to end up in a pure one on one with one, but your best bet is probably to keep your distance and let your superior dispersion tip the battle in your favour. I have on numerous occasions completely wrecked enemy Grosser Kürfursts (including citadels at around 16 km range) by staying at range and angling between volleys, taking almost no damage in return. Again, any tips are welcome! Disclaimers: There are without doubt players out there far more capable than I am. I only play ranked to earn the commemorative flag every season. Playing intelligently and aiding my team are things I find more important than anything else. I have a 58% win rate in my Yamato and a 67% win rate in my Montana (along with a 2.5 destruction ratio and 1996 average XP). I have completed both the Japanese and U.S. battleship lines and I have the Bismarck from the German line without much interest in getting the Grosser Kürfurst for now. (I have also completed the US DD line, the IJN cruiser line and I am tier 8-9 in all other lines with the exception of the Russian and RN cruiser lines.) This post was not meant to say that the Montana is superior to the Yamato, but I would argue that she is not inferior either and can hold her own quite well when in the hands of a capable player (which I think everyone sailing a tier 10 should be). Also, a point often overlooked is that different ships suit different people and playing styles. If you are unable to make a ship work, you either stick at it or find another ship to play. It would be a shame if they buffed the Montana and that the fun of playing her somehow got lost in order to satisfy those who have no business sailing battleships at all.

  7. Hey everyone! Last week, I got my 2nd T10: Worcester. Such an amazing ship, I love her so much. The thing is: I don't know what line I should grind next. I'm doubting between these ships: Montana (currently at T7 Colorado) Conqueror (currently at T7 King George V) Minotaur (currently at T8 Edinburgh) Harugumo (currently at T8 Akizuki) Gearing (currently at T8 Benson) Midway (currently at T7 Ranger) Here is a link to my stats page, so you guys can see what ship class I like most and what ship class I perform best in (https://wows-numbers.com/player/540813098,TheRedboss/). I like cruisers most, but I now own 2 T10 cruisers so I wanna try to get a BB, DD or CV next. Please answer the poll so I can see what you guys think of it :D. If there is another ship you think I should grind and didn't include it in the poll, just let me know in the comments. Thanks in advance, I'm really struggling on deciding :/ ~TheRedboss

    Legendary Mods

So I am pretty close to my leg Moskva and from the looks of it, its a simple buff to the range Moskva (which I dont really rate, but understand why people play it). I personally, and I would say the majority of people who play Moskva in randoms and in CW use reload mod, and from this leg, which I have some have grinded for, I find disappointment. By using this mod we are being forced into a type of game style that cuts out many other builds. I will try it out, but I dont see a reason why I should pick it in randoms at all, with maybe a small case being made for comp. As a fix, I would maybe suggest a rework of the leg to maybe improve dispersion a little, reload and range. Instead of range and dispersion, or release a second leg that acts as a improved reload leg.

    Consiglio cruiser T10

2. Was sagt wargaming zum Thema "extrem miserables MM für T8 Kreuzer" ?
  14. well i'm back to looking for a clan, my stats: https://wows-numbers.com/player/511063787,jonasnee/ i am mostly a CV and cruiser player, could improve my cruiser and DDs a bit but overall i feel confident with them. looking mostly for a clan for clan wars once the next season comes, last season my clan got to storm. also reduced repairs for carriers would be nice as well because CV economy. just in case it might be interesting here's 1 of my great games as of late:

    Buff Montana

So after playing a countless games in T10 i have come to the conclusion that the Montana is despite the recent buffs still underpowered compared to all other T10 battleships. Im suggesting a few (radical) changes. First of all, get rid of it. How about you put in a 1990s refit of the T9, the Iowa, in as a new T10? Of course you would have to give it the missles it had historically, that would bring in some fun new aspects to the game and would make for a very unique flavor for the american line. Second of all, premium ammo. The Iowa got nuclear ammo historically, if you would add that as an expensive alternative for regular ammo you could probably justify moving to T10 without any further adjustments. After all were already seeing how well premium ammo works in WoT. Something to equalize skill levels to give less skilled players a chance to compete is always nice. Also the accuracy on all of the american battleships needs a major buff. American ships were hell of alot more accurate than those of any other nation in the game and that should be reflected in the game. Hell, why not give the monty a 0m dispersion? Im tired of missing half my volley because rng threw them of while im sniping at max range.
  16. Evening gentlemen, we are planning to run the next King of the Seas early next year. With clan battles and new, very good teams playing in them, we need to decide on a format that works for everyone, veteran KotS teams and those that came up in this CB season. Do have a brief look at the wall of text pro/con list below before voting, by adding the standard or below the options you are happy with or hate. You can vote for more than one, we're trying to get a sense of what people are comfortable playing As with the last surveys, we are less interested in the absolute number of votes for a given option, and much more in the arguments for why we should adopt a given format. We can see up- and downsides to all of these, and are very open to (constructive!) suggestion. T8, 9v9, CV: This is ye olde standard, and those of you who have played previous KotS tournaments will be familiar with the up- and downsides. With the MK no longer for sale the meta is likely to change a bit, possibly for the better, possibly buffing BBs more. Either way, we're confident that it'll work, less confident that it's the best option. We see two major downsides here: most teams don't have enough captains to be able to run competitive setups for Tier 8 and Tier 10, where we'd expect official competitive to stay. We'd also likely have to keep banning individual ships as well, which will lead to an overly complicated ruleset. More importantly, clan battles have thrown up new teams that have cut their teeth in the current T10 meta and are playing at a top level. Switching not just to a CV, but changing the both the tier and player numbers is a huge ask, and will put them at a potentially unfair disadvantage to teams that have KotS experience. We are leaning against running T8 for next KotS. T10, 7v7, no CV: hat we're all playing right now - this means all teams have a level playing field to catch up on training, develop and test tactics before a tournament, and captain specs shouldn't be an issue. We're seeing 2-, 1-, and 0-DD comps in typhoon league, so the meta should be quite diverse, and knowing the map, spawn and opponent will allow teams to bring specific comps and tactics, which should be interesting and a change from clan battles. The obvious downside is that going head to head with the competitive format already in the game feels a bit like missed opportunity to do something interesting. We're also concerned that in 7v7 achievable winrates are too low for a knock-out tournament. We don't want stomps, but we don't want coinflips either, and what works over sample size of hundreds of games won't necessarily work over a best-of-three. It's a workable option, but we're not keen on this either. T10, 9v9, CV: This was played in the MDIV league, so it's a format with at least some testing behind it. BBs would likely be restricted to two. We'd expect the meta to establish itself fairly quickly - think parallels to T8, with cruisers spending more time in the open, at long ranges, and likely more smoke. It does have the significant downside (as with T8) that expereince and skills from this CB season will be hard to transfer to a very different meta. We see it as the 'safest' option, and one that will not require too much testing for us to confident it will work in some fashion. T10, 9v9, No CV: A possible compromise between the meta and the skills developed in this season of clan battles, and the older KotS format. The basic idea here being that with-CV and no-CV gameplay are different enough that this gives teams that got their start in clan battles an equal footing, while somewhat reducing the variance in 7v7. There will be more vision as you have more ships dotted around the map, and losing one player early isn't the death-knell it is in clan battles. On the other hand it’s a lot of firepower. While it looks to have potential, none of us have ever played this before so it would need fairly extensive testing before we'd be comfortable going ahead with it. If you're interested in helping out with that do say so. We are very much looking for your input so we can make a fun tournament with the best possible format for balanced competitive play. The poll serves as a general guideline, so we can see what the community thinks. Any and all input is appreciated. Thanks!

    T10 CVs, for or against?

So I think most people that trawl these forums know my stance on CVs. I think bottom tier CVs get screwed and top tiers get free farm save for 4 or 5 ships in the game. I think in most cases CV players have too much match influence making the rest of the team spectators in their own defeat of victory. The worst, and only unforgivable sin is they just suck the fun out of games. You position well for a 2 on 1, you blow the hell out of the cruiser and you're just about to do your hero pass against the Yamato, incoming CV, you can't manoeuvre and you get deleted. This game is all about positioning, you cannot position against a CV, they have global range and countless attack vectors. Their ability to spot ruins DDs if they just don't flat out delete them and the only threat comes from RNG secondaries a potato can learn and avoid and enemy fighters, which might not even exist due to strike loadouts. People say just sail in a group, this works if you have enough collective AA and you don't have ships shooting at you. Some matches have no AA cruisers, and even those that do have too few and none of those cruisers play well alongside a yamato or a kurfurst, for starters they don't have the range, shell velocity or survivability. The same goes for DDs and cruisers, how long does a Hindenburg last on a cap when his gearings smoke runs out ? Anyway, I want to put an end to these salty rants of mine, so vote. Are T10 CVs fun or are they not? I can then take the results and shut up, either vindicated or proven wrong. For the topic discussion, if anyone can tell me what's fun about playing against a T10 CV I'd be glad to hear it, I fear whatever the results I'm going to have to learn to deal with these RTS interlopers.
Merci!

Is it still worth to get Shimakaze ?

I know that most players say that japanese destroyers are nerfed and not good to play at T10. But I found out that only some weeks ago and I have t6 fubuki with +40k xp (only ~20k left to t7). So do you guys think I should leave ijn line and go to russians or other? Or is the ijn at t10 still pretty playable?

  21. So... If you have played all the Tier 10 BBs, which is the best? Großer Kurfürst came out and most of the players saying that: "Kurfürst is the anti-Yamato BB", "Montana is now useless" ecc ecc. I've seen videos about Kurfürst vs Montana then vs Yamato (between BOTS), but I think that BOTS can't decide which is the best because every player has his own gameplay, knowing how to angle and so on. I've tried every T10 battleship and nothing can replace the queen... So my vote goes for the YAMATO. Its still the Queen of the Seas having 545,874 battles in total and keeping its dmg avg around 86k. It has the best torpedo belt, it has enough stock range, you can tank (not as much as the Kurfurst but depends on the player that's sailing it) and its guns are the best (if known where to aim at even showing bow). What's yours? I personally think that Kurfürst isn't the "anti-Yamato BB", because even having those 420mm you hardly penetrate the Yamato not showing the full broadside and the shells are bouncing also on other ships. At T10 battles its hard to give the best out from this Battleship because in the most battles the players are "camping" so you have only a range of 20k (without Range Upgrade) and the game finishes winning by points and without damage. Also I've notice that almost all German Battleships are burning quite easily. Shooting with all 4 turrets = BROADSIDE. (My stats: Großer Kurfürst avg dmg 132k with 40+ battles) For some other players Montana is now useless, but for me its more accurate than all the T10 BBs, even being a 406mm you can penetrate every battleship in the game, to shoot with all 4 turrets you don't have to show your full broadside and you have 23km of range (without range upgrade) in case you have to shoot on campers. Even not having the Hydro, most of the time you can avoid the torps with a torpedo beat being smaller than the Kurfurst. (Montana avg dmg 120k with 100+ battles)

Peace.

    Which TX next?

Hi, On weekend I will have enought XP for research 4 T10 ships but I cannot decide which one buy first. Credits are my problem so it will take some time to save enough for another T10. My preference is one of those cruisers since I like cruiser gameplay but which? Which one would be your choise and why? Thanks for all votes.
