They probably did a poll in the office and the CV side barely won.

Wouldn't it be better if WG simply stopped with all the excessive BS when it comes to it's microtransactions? How come it's never the fault of the company but the fault of the people calling it out?

5th edition's design was more rooted in the classic editions which ended up attracting the younger crowd. It was a win win.

It's not an age thing - it's just a very practical one as the forums are the most practical way of displaying information in the way that it is suited. Discord is better suited for chatting.

I seem to remember a time when Wizards of the Coast went looking for that magical land of young customers when their older and more dedicated customers weren't enough (AkA Dungeons and Dragons 4th edition). Well that land was never found to exist so they went crawling back to their older audience (5th edition).

No they don't. They hold a niche genre of game in their hands which has enabled them to get by so far. There is no young market for naval combat games.

What they have done is taken their community for granted and started seeking players elsewhere. I hate to break the bad news to them but when it comes to naval combat games, it is not on a young person's list of games to play. Young people these days are in to either retro types of games, Pokemon, Amongst Us, sports games, or first person shooters. Wargaming had it's core of dedicated fans and players but decided we weren't enough. A bit like walking away from a really good job heading for another one you thought was much better but turned out to be a lot worse as well as the pay. Will businesses ever learn that greed is their downfall?

As I hinted at in my post to the mod - Discord is something different than a forum and you're right it's mostly a general chatroom more so than a WoWs place to discuss the game. I'm also curious what he will come back with as far as their vision of using Discord to interact with the community as that implies he just sit in Discord waiting for them to say something. Wargaming reminds me of that person who gets a false sense of their own ideas and worth because they managed to successfully bumble through their business with a niche idea. I don't care how much money they've made - their overall business model is a joke. Had their been other ship games like this I believe WG would have gone out of business long ago.

I think the move to Discord and the removal of the threads show they are bothered by all the "complaining" but instead of changing all the nonsense that garners the justified complaints they just remove the place to present those complaints.

Just wanted to run a little poll here to see how many of you think Concealed Maneuvers will be considered a success no matter how bad it is.

If you don't mind me asking what exactly does the above look like. What types of interactions would you be having via Discord? Give me an example of these types of interactions that Discord does batter than the forums? I mean look at your own community board that has update details etc.. Notice how the format doesn't move and allows people to go to it and read it at their leisure?

You're not really comparing like for like here. People go to Discord for one thing while people go to the forum for something else. Each has a different purpose so you can't really say with all confidence that WG decides to go with one over the other. Also I know a lot of people who use the forums for information but don't bother logging in because you can still get what you need from the forum without even bothering to log in so any data would not be accurate if you simply go by log ins. Forums are a hub of information while Discord is just a place to chat and frankly get slagged on by people followed by stupid meme icons. Forums these days are so cheap to run and take up almost no room on a server unless it is managed poorly.

The problem is Wargaming are more worried about those possible future customers that may not even exist than the ones they already have. You know "Grass is greener and all that".

Don't most games that throw away their communities just end up failing? World of Warcraft still has forums and that game is a good bit older than this one.

I don't buy the excuse of cutting costs - to them it would be like me changing one lightbulb in my house to save on me electric bill.

Exactly! With forums when you post something it's there until it is removed while on Discord it just gets lost in the endless posts.

Running a forum is just a drop in the bucket these days - especially to a company that made over 1.5 billion in profit.

The main problem with Discord is it's full of Wargaming apologists and mods who make fun of people and then get the rest of the rabble to follow behind them. If anyone thinks the forums are bad Discord is 10 times worse. It is nothing but pure toxic where criticism of anything isn't tolerated. There is no discussion on Discord.

So how are you supposed to find specifics in all the noise?

YOU ALSO HAVE MAIN GUNS! I'm genuinely surprised I have to actually bring this up. Hybrid ships are just BB's and DD's with planes but people seem to think they just sail around waiting for their planes to cool down and only use their guns if someone comes with in 5 km of their ships. HTF would you even think your main guns come second? Had a few Louisiana hybrids doing this today and the fact you get more than one in a day shocks me.

How dare you talk about others when you have over 5k battles in a division which a lot of people use to pad their stats.
