How will various XP-earning benefit me in the game?
MemeOfTheCentury replied to Laudate's question in Tech Corner
When you play a battle, you earn four different types of XP. 1. Ship XP 2. Free XP 3. Commander XP 4. Elite Commander XP Commander XP and Elite Commander XP aren't relevant here, so let's explain 1. Ship XP and 2. Free XP. 1. Ship XP is XP which is tied to a specific ship. Ship XP can only be used on the ship to which it is tied. If you have lots of Ship XP on one ship, but no Ship XP on another ship, you can't use the Ship XP from the first ship to research upgrades on the other ship. You must play with a particular ship to earn Ship XP on that ship. 2. Free XP is XP which is not tied to a specific ship. Free XP can be used on any ship. If you earn Free XP on one ship, you can use that Free XP to research upgrades on another ship. You can play with any ship to earn free XP. Now let's talk about how to spend Ship XP and Free XP. A ship costs a set amount of XP to research. When you attempt to research a ship the game first tries to use Ship XP. If you can afford the research with Ship XP alone, Free XP will not be used. Free XP is more valuable than Ship XP as Free XP has more uses than Ship XP, so the game uses all your Ship XP before touching your Free XP. If you have some Ship XP but not enough Ship XP to afford the research, the game will use as much Free XP as is needed to reach the total cost. You can also research a ship while having no Ship XP, the game allows you to research with only Free XP. Let's break that down a bit. A. If you have enough Ship XP to afford the research, no Free XP is needed. B. If you have some, but not enough Ship XP to afford the research, some Free XP is needed. C. If you have no Ship XP, the full cost is taken from your Free XP balance. In the case of A, you have enough ship XP to afford the research, earning more Ship XP won't change the cost to your Free XP balance. You don't need to use Free XP for the research as you have enough Ship XP, so adding more Ship XP doesn't change how much Free XP you need to use. In the case of B, you have some, but not enough Ship XP to afford the research, some Free XP is needed to reach the total price of the research. When you earn more Ship XP the amount of Free XP you need to add to reach the total price is reduced, as you have more Ship XP to spend. Eventually if you keep adding Ship XP you will not need to add any Free XP at all to the cost of the research. Now the bit that I think might make it all click... If you do not have enough Ship XP + Free XP to afford the price of a research option, the game will tell you: Research: XXX,XXX Required: X,XXX The game is adding up all your Ship XP and your Free XP and telling you how many total XP short you are for that specific item. In game, Research = the price of the research, Required = how much more total XP you need to earn to reach the Research value. If you're still confused after this try posting some screenshots pointing to the numbers you're talking about, that would help understand exactly what you mean when you talk about various figures.- 11 replies

Do the players want submarines in the game, one simple question. 3 simple answers.
MemeOfTheCentury replied to SmegTheNoob's topic in General Discussion
It might seem obvious but an attack/defend mode for subs would be cool, 12 players escorting a convoy whether the convoy is AI or player controlled and 12 subs attacking the convoy. Basically the same type of set up as randoms but with a victory objective more suitable for submarine inclusion. Team deathmatch with caps doesn't seem to suit subs. They could have it time gated to avoid interfering with the random battle player count too much, e.g. special alert a convoy is leaving port in 3 days time, you have 48 hours to attack/defend it in submarine mode. I played a couple of sub matches to see what they're like (don't worry I apologised in game) and it didn't feel fun. There was no cool aspect to being a submarine, well the underwater terrain modelling was cool, but it didn't feel any different to being a surface ship except that I was much slower, more complicated to control, and much less potent in killing enemies (but that's just me, I'm sure some people are super unicums with subs). -

People only complain because they love World of Warplanes: Naval Edition - Special Submariner's Rerelease so much. -

What's the penetration like on that? Good angles?

I don't know enough about the game to comment properly but these all sound like good ideas to me.

Just had a t6 match with double CVs... Lost half my health in an Aoba before even engaging the enemy. I was alone to be fair, but only because I was on the weak flank with a Kongo and a T-22, and the Kongo had been forced way off course by the first CV attack. Later I got trash talked by one of the CVs after I dodged his awful torps. I came top of my (losing) team, he came 3rd bottom of his. It's just disheartening that CVs enable these kinds of players, who would be dead in the first 5 minutes of a match in any other ship.

I joined this clan thinking it was as advertised. It was not. The next day I got a message from the leader j3rico asking me to join discord. I refused, stating that the clan was advertised as a solo clan for the oil/benefits. I hopped in to a game not seeing a problem and returned to find I had been removed from the clan, and a rather rude message stating [HOWL] has been serious about clan battles for over a year now, and that my 46% win rate in the Furutaka was ridiculous (at 40 games, with 2k PR). I wouldn't have said anything as mistakes happen but the demeanour and aggressiveness of the clan leader really put me off my lunch.
