Balancing CV's as attempted by a drunken hobo!

Heard these so many times. The devs simply do not care about the playability and enjoyablity of the game.... it's all about the

The issue is never countering. The issue is that whether or not you can counter them, CVs and certain other ships make the game suck. Just take CVs. It's a truism that the higher your PR, the more you dislike CVs. Yet almost all high-PR players know how to counter cancer. The true horror of CVs is that they make the game suck even when you know what to do about them.

The lack of AA for low tier ships is a huge issue

So dev logic is that 95% of the players must suffer for the sake of 5% of the playerbase. Right. So basically they have conceded that the ReWork was a waste and a failure, kept alive only via hothouse methods like forcing T4 to eat damage from CVs.

Lots of ppl report ships they don't like or which they feel should not be in the game, such as CVs. Asashio is a widely despised gimmick ship and I know players who routinely report it. HE spammers in smoke also get reported sometimes. It thus probably has nothing to do with your play, but rather, the ship you are in. Because WG offers players no opt-outs or other avenues to avoid ships they feel don't belong in the game, and no way to protest, karmic punishment is one of the few ways players can protest dumb decisions by the devs, like flooding the game with CVs and broken ships like Petra or Asashio.

    big hunt rewards underwhleming ?

Exactly. We should have had a huge range of operations by now. Or all this energy could have been put into giving us more maps. Or the quality of life changes to the UI, etc.... But that assumes a company that is in tune with the people who will spend money in the long-term. And all they care about is the churn. Incredible potential for long-term money and cultivation of high value paying customers, but zero customer orientation and short-term thinking means that WG is basically like a man who was given a garden that could have yielded crops in abundance forever with proper care, but instead decided to sell the topsoil for a quick buck. Makes me sad. I don't regret spending the $$ that I did, I am just sad that only the players love this game.
  6. Not really. 267 games in it on NA, 66% WR/81K damage. 7 kill game in it once, in which I dev struck cruisers three straight salvos. I know that ship well.
  7. ...and they see T9 way too often. In Ashitaka I am nearly always uptiered to T9. Had to blink twice when I loaded into a match and was top tier the other day.... the MM rework really screwed T7. I am grinding the RN BB line now on my EU account so that I can play KGV, whose HE laughs at T9 pretense.

    Fix you game

I dont think it is entirely a "preferred nation" issue. On the rare occasions I play cruisers, I play German cruisers T7 and above because they are more survivable than most other cruisers, except for the supercruisers. One thing WG should do is make adjustments to lower tier cruisers, give them heals for starters. They die so fast that players never learn to play cruisers and soon switch to something else. This means fewer people are playing cruiser in the higher tiers. At all tiers cruisers need to get meaningful and powerful AA, not the current placebo mode AA that has no effect on the CV. If CVs spot them less, they can go dark more easily and become more survivable. I basically stopped playing cruisers, though, because the flood of CVs means there is no hiding. If you can't go dark, you can't play a cruiser. The maps also need changed -- on Solomons and Fault Line, for example, there is no place for a cruiser player to position behind an island and spam out HE. Everyone is an open water boat, and dies early. Zero fun, and nobody learns the art of island positioning. The fundamental problem is that the devs want everyone in BBs. They like BB-heavy matches because they can sell their bread-and-butter premiums like Tirpitz, and they don't care about game playability and enjoyability. Until that attitude changes...

    T10 Population decreases

Bismarck, Gneis, Bayern, GK, and Konig -- half -- was there some German BB thing going on that I missed. Queued up yesterday and found 146 BBs in queue, total of 5 DDs and CAs.

Caracciolo is at the same Tier as Sinop

LOL. Let's overreact. HE is useful at range, against higher tier foes, etc. I prefer it to SAP. I do not get such salvos, and no one has done them to me. It's why I prefer the more useful HE. Pretty much what I am going to do.

    Dreadnoughts need an AA Buff

This issue should have been resolved ages ago. Just another example of how WG has no customer orientation whatsoever. Sad that they have all these people eager to use their product, yet they could care less about them.

Caracciolo is at the same Tier as Sinop

What the devs need to do is add the OPTION to use HE or SAP (would much rather have HE than SAP). A spotter aircraft/fighter consummable should be added. If the ship is going to be saddled with a 33s reload, perhaps adding reload booster should be considered (maybe trade off with spotter plane?). Otherwise improve the sigma/dispersion. Right now its not worth getting into, when there are so many better ships at T7.

Caracciolo is at the same Tier as Sinop

Haha. I just got it on the other server. My god it's awful. 33 sec reload for 8 381mm guns and a piddling 17.5 kms of range? Why then do Colorado, Nagato, Hood, and QE, Bayern, and Warspite all have 30s with 8 guns? Hard to tell about the armor since I only played it in coop and the bots get lots of cheat cits, but the guns are just awful. Usually the devs are pretty good at balancing... but.... Never playing this one in Randoms. Why would I want to be in this ship with its low HP, slow reload, and poor gunnery, when I can be in 406mm gunned BBs with better reloads and armor and range? Or in the broken KGV burning down the world?

Right now, it looks like whichever side has the most Carraciolo-s loses...

Is auto bot farming still exist in this game?

Yes, had two games in a row yesterday with bot CVs. Wargaming likes bots, they lead to collapses and shorter games. Thus, despite the fact that it is easy to find botters by checking PR, they never do anything about botters. I've reported well known botters and AFKers numerous times, and nothing was ever done about them.

Wow, that sucks. But keep this topic alive. Maybe the devs will get around to fixing the sigma issues.

    no blame in quitting brawls

If I quit and say why, then there is a record. If many players did it, it would show up in the Comradely Spreadsheets. But if you don't play, then the devs don't know why. For the reasons you name, I dont exit team matches in protest (though I know other players who do and I dont blame them). But none of that applies in 1v1. I am not letting my team down, because I am its only player and I decide whether I am let down. Do players who play CVs in 1v1 brawls think about how little fun it is for the other person? Of course not. For them, "fun" means "winning easily and without risk". If they had another attitude, they would not be in a CV. If you are going to argue for an ethic that includes the other player's fun as a moral obligation, then I owe nothing to people who load into the match in a CV. To argue otherwise is to impose a double standard on me. I acknowledge the strength of that argument. But I must disagree, most forms of protest inconvenience someone and break rules -- that is how they become effective. Right now the only way we have to indicate our displeasure is by wallet (no effect), our words in the forums (ignored), surveys (WG's surveys are tragicomically useless and they never do surveys on CVs because they already know how unpopular they are), and by our actions in the game that show up in their database (voting with our feet). That last is quite powerful.

Its a great idea. Arms Race + Brawl... designed well, it would reward faster ships like cruisers, who can offset their HP disadvantages by grabbing heals before the other guy. You could also have packages of modules -- like smoke or reload booster that would give one charge.
  19. SodaBubbles

    no blame in quitting brawls

Yes, not much fun for me, like with most players, since there is zero fun in being a target drone. Last time in this mode, several matches with CVs, low % thankfully, and I exited all of them after explaining to the CV that I won't play against CVs since they don't belong in human vs human matches, and he was welcome to his victory. I mean, he loaded into the game in the easy mode ship, expecting an entirely unearned, risk-free win, so he isn't going to complain if he has to do no work at all to win. None of them ever reported me. This time, met no CVs so far, but I haven't done too many of the brawls because with Two Brothers and Shatter every other match, they are largely dull, identical games.

Do we any opt-outs? Nope. WG won't give them. As long as WG forces players to eat idiotic maps like Two Brothers, which should not be in this mode, and to eat CVs, which should not be in this game, players will exit matches. I usually do. I explain to the other player what I am doing, tell him I am turning off my secondaries, and ALT-TAB out. No one has ever criticized me for that decision. Players are generally trustworthy and keep their bargains, I have found. A few matches ago I needed two caps, and we got that idiotic Two Brothers map. So I asked him to let me get two caps and then he could kill me. No problem, he agreed, we each kept our side of the bargain. I play this game to have fun. If the game isn't fun, and I have a choice, I exit. Playing on Shatter and Two Brothers is not fun. Playing against CVs is not fun. Hence, I do neither. Maybe -- here's a thought -- you should think about how much more fun the game could be with some changes.
  21. SodaBubbles

    no blame in quitting brawls

No, its not bad manners. WG will not let players opt out of the idiotic maps they choose, nor will they let people opt out of CVs. Non-participation is thus the only form of protest available to players. I almost always opt out on Two Brothers and of matches with CVs (I refuse to play against them if I have a choice). I always explain what I am doing, and why. What other form of protest is available to me? When players start voting with their feet, the devs will change things. The other player gets an easy win, which helps them. As long as you handle the opt-out with good manners, its ok.

1vs1 Brawls: the revenge of the snowflakes

So far I've been playing Amagi on EU and Tirp on NA. There's very little a DD player can do if the BB driver exercises caution. Only once did a French DD get me, in Tirp, because I got overconfident. Two Brothers is incredibly stupid in this mode. The only viable tactic is heading up the middle. Usually if I get that map I set my ship to drive into an island and tell my opponent that I am ceding the match to him. I don't know any other way to protest that map. It just shows how out of touch the devs are that they would put this map in that mode. Shatter, the worst map in the game, is nearly as stupid. As long as you can dodge torps cruisers are helpless, even cruisers with torps, against a competent BB driver. I haven't lost to one yet. It's simply -- any map that produces identical matches every time should. not. be. in. this. mode. It's obvious the people making decisions don't play the game.

    Unhealthy T10 meta

T10 has an incredible series of problems... -- the CVs make the game suck even worse than at other tiers -- there are numerous broken ships that make the game frustrating and unfun, all the high ROF smoke spammers, the broken Russian BBs, Thunderer, Petra, Stalingrad, etc. -- the maps run from bad to utter crap. Shatter is by far the worst map in the game, Sea of (Mis)Fortune hardly less stupid, Loop is awful. We need new maps! -- the games are always over early. In the low tiers good play by a div can recover from being down two ships, but at T10 once a team falls two ships behind the match is usually over. And that happens early quite often. -- offense vastly outruns defense, meaning that ships are quickly destroyed once exposed and cannot push. -- BBs have far too much range and gunpower. The more recent BBs have totally powercreeped the earlier ones -- Montana feels like a quaint relic of a bygone age, and no matter what ship I am in I view GKs as food. -- the devs are obsessed with T10 and so we see it in competitive far too often. I no longer play T10 randoms. If one is in search of fun games that will be tight and recoverable even when you're down a couple of ships, T5-7 produce much better matches and the ships a better mix of capabilities and vulnerabilites.
