Which is the most fun? Pommern/Marceau/Napoli
totally_potato replied to DaBung's topic in General Discussion
I honestly think Elbing has better AA, but that's just me I suppose I consistently have 30+ plane kills in my Elbing games with CVs, with a fair few 50+ plane kills in a good drawn out game That's sort of hard to tell Gneisenau is this bully at T7 with few very good guns, secs, good armor and torps, as well as amazing speed (for a BB). Its one of the few ships that can push another well armored BB from her position, its one of the few BBs that can take advantages of opportunities to push really goddamn well. Napoli however faces T10 ships that either have really good DPM, or good at multitasking, or have high alpha, etc You can't really play it like a Gneisenau You want to utilize that conceal, and speed, to support your plays, while in Gneisenau, since its T7, you just have to wait for chances to do your job. So I wouldn't ask you you to play it like a Gneisenau, but it is sort of similar in the idea. Use conceal to push in, use islands to get in closer, use speed to island hop, ambush the enemy out of thin air coz that conceal is really good, and blap them. Gneisenau is more of the take-it-in-your-face type of BB, while Napoli want to utilize ambushes to get the most impact out of her tool kit. You have to plan ahead with BBs FDG is no exception However, it is quite a tanky hull The superstructure is the main problem tho. In the T9-10 BBs you don't really want to push in all honesty. You want to, atleast initially, hold the push, utilizing that armor and HP while keeping the barrels firing. That's how I have found the most success with FDG and GK. I do push in like a madman at times tho when I just don't give a crap anymore and it either ended miserably, or granted me the most fun and hilarious moments. You can call it gambling but its fun to me. Then maybe Marceau is not for you? Try getting the first few ships, and play other gun boat DDs, and practice with them. Otherwise there are a ton of guides on YT that explain things better than me. agreed -
what are you trying to say, my dude? You think FDR was balanced or something?

Which is the most fun? Pommern/Marceau/Napoli
totally_potato replied to DaBung's topic in General Discussion
Kleber relies on its RB to knife fight DDs, and good ballistics otherwise. Marceau has that baked in basically, but shitty firing ballistics. CVs can ruin Kleber's day and a well played DD at close quarters, Marceau has good enough AA and high DPM to counter all that. Kleber murders cruisers at close range, Marceau can but mostly probably won't outright kill a cruiser if he's any good, but it does murder DDs -
Which is the most fun? Pommern/Marceau/Napoli
totally_potato replied to DaBung's topic in General Discussion
All the three ships are unique, and fun (Marceau is not fun if you are a potato tho) Pommern is your typical German BB. In terms of armor she has a very good armor scheme. High Icebreaker, Good deck armor (80mm at the thickest in some sections), German Turtleback (not that its slightly less efficient, just like FDG, than the other German BBs, as its too shallow, and a full turn will lift the TB protection and expose the cit, so plan your maneuvers carefully). It has twelve 15 inch guns, which are very bad. They are basically 12 T7 guns at T9, but it does mean a ton of alpha. The penetration, accuracy are subpar, so you really don't wanna fight BBs at range. But at around 14 ish km, your guns are good enough to put the hurting against broadsiding ships. You want to be firing a bit of HE, as your overmatch potential is limited to 26mm (coz 15 inch guns) and 12 guns is a ton of HE to fire. The gun firing angles aren't good either. In its brawling toolkit, it inherits the good armor scheme I mentioned earlier, FDG secondaries (your typical 150mm guns and 105mm guns that have 1/4th pen and good DPM, however you want to either have IFHE to pen 32 with your smaller guns, or you want to stay further than 7km to hit superstructures), 6 km Tirpitz torps, and 6km German hydro. Its an amazing brawler (best of the German BBs imo) and while you do have problems in the ship, you are a nice alternative to FDG. FDG likes staying in the 12km mid range ish areas with rapid firing 16 inch volleys, secondaries and good armor with good backward firing angles, while Pommern want to last it out at the enemy at suicide range. Verdict: Situationally very fun Marceau is basically a different gunned Kleber. It retains the survivability of Kleber, as well as the speed. However it gets some weird differences. Notably she has:- Objectively worser torps. They have one km more range, but worser dmg, speed, reload. She retains the torp setup and number of torps. So they are more back peddling torps than yolo ones The guns are completely different. They are essentially Colbert guns. You have extreme levels of DPM, quite decent HE shells, really good AP (decent dmg, 5th best pen among DDs, good velocity at close range and high DPM). They have crap velocity at long range tho, so you want to be a bit closer than you are usually in a kleber. DFAA instead of MBRB. Coz why not? Tbf your DPM is high enough and better AA is not a bad thing to have. Better concealment So its a fun DD to play when played right. Napoli is a unique cruiser experience. [FUN FACT - Its the only original ship of the bunch, the rest are different gunned rip offs ] So its essentially a brawling secondary cruiser. The only sec cruiser we have rn, but not the first as pre rework, Siegfried was exactly that (full secondary build) playstyle (RIP). Now Napoli comes with a fair few quirks and a fair few cons. For cons, the guns are very unreliable. It uses Tallinn dispersion, and the DPM is not good at all. The HE is mediocre af. It has a big shell catcher at the back which means, kiting is not the best approach to play her. She also has absolutely no team orientated consumables (fighter is a meme). Her AA on paper is quite limited in potential thanks to her abysmal range at 4.6km. Now on to the strengths. Her maneuverability and concealment don't disappoint. She has a tight turning circle, very very good speed (37.3 knots, ffs sake she's faster than some DDs), and mediocre rudder shift. She can def close in and execute turns well, but her torp dodging capabilities are rather limited. Her concealment is amazing, besting even DM at 10.3km. FFS that's really good. Her smoke firing penalty is decent which is nice. Her guns, while they don't have good performance at longer ranges, are not an issue at mid to close ranges. She has both HE and AP, unlike the tech tree. And while her HE is mediocre at best, she does have Moskva like AP with similar pen and really good alpha. And 254mm guns is a sufficient enough caliber to overmatch super CLs like Smolensk, Colbert, the Brits, etc. Her armor is amazing. Its really close to Petro levels, while having a bit more HP than even Goliath, at 59.2K HP. Her secondaries are a "selling" point of the ship. They have SAP shells instead of HE, high DPM, tons of guns, and really good accuracy for a cruiser. They have standard cruiser range for secondaries. In practice, they have been really good, even the 90mm, thnx to the floaty arcs, hitting the superstructure was not an issue for dmg. She does get torps, 4 tube launcher on each side with good range, really good conceal, and good reload, but lowish dmg and slow. Average reaction time, good reload, high range, and torp tube placing make it a decent area denial tool, and another tool in the box. In terms of consumables, she has standard heal, fighter and Italian fuel smoke. This makes her a:- A. Viable secondary cruiser with good secondaries, good armor and smoke to push in, as well as Italian yolo torps. OR B. Really good ambush cruiser with good conceal and speed to get into position, good guns with good AP to ambush targets, good armor and HP to sustain, and smoke to instantly drop detection. Plus secondaries as a bonus source of dmg as well as torps as a last minute surprise package. So this is how I rank them In terms of uniqueness:- 1. Napoli 2. Pommern 3. Marceau In terms of comp:- 1. Marceau 2. Napoli 3. Pommern In terms of fun (personally):- 1. Pommern 2. Napoli (Its really close coz both are a really fun) 3. Marceau I won't highlight any recommendation, all three are really good. But if you want:- A unique secondary, close quarters, ambush cruiser - Napoli A German BB with all the german gimmicks and tools for brawling - Pommern A very comp, high skill, high speed gunboat DD - Marceau That's it from me, choose what you like -
no You have been punished by Karma for buying such an OP ship

its a fresh breath Fast paced, action packed, aggressive with a bit of romance -
You forgot the fact that the FDR planes literally have better HP than Odin Jokes aside, FDR is considered OP coz AA literally doesn't kill its squads, and it has a ton of alpha, in all three types of weapons And i didn't understand your point regarding montana. We are talking about how overrated Kremlin was pre nerf.
-
ikr Kremlin was shouted as 'OP' becoz it actually did the BB role well, of tanking and dishing it out, and had the crap maneuverability and exposed cit, so if it made a mistake, its punishable. Russian Bias btw. Petro will soon follow Krem's footsteps. Its designed to be an AP focused tank, which it does well, and when they will all complain, they will nerf her to the ground, and only make the armor, the standout feature. And everyone will say, they are useless and blame WG for "nerfing" them too hard.

put em in the last 5 boxes to keep the first few buyers guessing Free money for us folks -
That was more of an adjustment to an error than a buff 97% cruisers have 33% cit dmg restoration. Nevsky not having it was weird tbf

Ranked Battles Where TIER 7/9 ?
totally_potato replied to Alex_steel_45's topic in General Discussion
i said subs could be a reason -
I wouldn't really call it a buff More like an adjustment. The heal had 10% cit healing compared to 33% of other cruisers, which was weird, so it was mostly brought in line with other cruisers.

ehh I suppose head banging might make WG's head big enough to finally get some level of IQ to understand what the game needs and doesn't need. Till then, just keep ya head down -

PT 0.10.8, changes to ASW armament and upgrades (DB 192)
totally_potato replied to YabbaCoe's topic in Development Blog
nope It all either bounces or overpens on T10 CVs -
real good fresh breather from randoms Fast paced, action packed, aggressive, (even a bit of romance for the convoy escorts). However there are a couple of issues I would like to highlight if you ever plan to bring this to the main stream game. 1. The path of the route should not be shown to the raiders. There should be an approximation in that regard. 2. CVs don't make sense imo in this gamemode. Instead bring subs into this mode for testing. Not more than 1 sub per team, so that the value remains. 3. Make a small instructions page for everyone when they enter the battle so that they understand on what to do, as I met one guy repeatedly on PTS in this gamemode, and he has no idea on what to do despite playing multiple times. 4. The path should be random, and so should the extraction point Other than that, its a really good mode imo
