What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

I earned a third Solo warrior (and a first in Randoms IIRC, the others were from Ranked) this evening: Regards, Nightowl

[POLL] How do you like new Asymmetric Battles ?

I concur. This game mode is a pleasant one - I wish that it would stay. Regards, Nightowl

Funny and sad game situations shown with map screenshots.

The way of eastern dictatorial regimes, distorting reality and propagating alternative facts, must be contagious. Even fictional ships of such a make are apparently able to influence their commanders in front of their screen to such ends. I just got told and reported for that I did nothing while playing Ranked in my Vampire II. These are the results of the battle: Admittedly, it was not enough, as we did not win. But it surely was more than nothing? Regards, Nightowl

    Premium Ships

Yeah, I admit, I did this on purpose. But I just wanted to try whether this card here has a counter: I thought that by somewhat fulfilling the requirement of "significantly contributing", I hope at least a bit, I may eventually have demonstrated a genuine resurrection. And it was fun thinking about some puns while writing... Regards, Nightowl

    Premium Ships

Just a bit of forum archeology... Was this time long gone time something where suggestions of players mattered? There's a huge lot of truths to be seen here. Warspite: since 30 June 2015, so only 3,5 months after this opening post Lexington: tech-tree, the WoWS Wiki page for the CV was created on 26. June 2015, same timeframe as the Warspite release. Right on the mark with existence and tier. First sailed out at Christmas 2015. Petropavlovsk and Tallinn are both tech-tree, since May 2020 and update 0.9.4 (early access). Agincourt was launched on 17 May 2021. Eugen looks like having been released in September 2016, one and a half year after this quoted post. But the exact date doesn't transpire from the patchnotes from that time (checked from 0.5.10 up to 0.5.14). For Alaska, let me quote the Wiki: "Alaska was first made available with Update 0.8.1 on 27 February 2019. She was retired and is no longer available as of patch 0.10.1 (Feb 2021)." Here, it took WG nearly 4 years to get to the large cruiser. Ise in indeed here as an actual hybrid (since 4 June 2021). The Nürnberg wandered into a box made by a Christmas Elf in 2020 and turned Makarov after firstly crossdressing in 2017 ("Admiral Makarov was first released for Doubloons on 20 December 2017 for 6 weeks, then twice very briefly (2018 and 2020). During the Santa's Gifts event in December 2020, she was often the first ship obtained"). It turned out right. Repulse as premium and Renown as tech-tree, even with a heavy refitted premium version (Renown '44). The relevant dates: UK battlecruiser tech-tree since 0.11.6 and the 13th July, 2022, Repulse: " Repulse was first released as the Stage 18 reward in the Clydebank Dockyard on 8 December 2021. She was then made available for doubloons with the release of Update 11.2 in March 2022." Renown '44: " Renown '44 was first released as the Stage 19 reward in the Hamburg Dockyard on 07 December 2022". Ise: check. Hyūga: "Hyūga first went on sale on 29 April 2021." Graf Spee: double strike (including the HSF version), it even did a complete round trip from zero to hero to zero: "Admiral Graf Spee was first released for sale on 22 December 2016 for the NA server and 23 December 2016 for the EU server. As of the 0.10.5 update (June 2021) She is no longer available." British battlecruisers: check, became tech-tree. Frome these ideas, we've since got the Mikasa (it did not tale long from posting to availability, "Mikasa was originally available for sale on select servers in mid-2015, in commemoration of the 110th anniversary of the Battle of Tsushima. She was later made available as a reward during July 2016 and April 2017 via in-game events") and the Moltke itself as tech-tree member ("Moltke was first released for Prime Gaming subscribers in Sept 2021 and for Early Access with Update 0.10.9, that being released on Octover 6th, 2021). Bullseye. See update 0.10.1 (Feb. 17th, 2021, tech tree), Giulio Cesare (first sold from 20 October 2017 and nowadays only crate content) and Roma ("Roma was first released for sale on 18 January 2018"). They might and did: Hood ("Hood first went on sale on 18 May 2017"), so this idea was not clouded in a Hood of secrecy and fantasy. Not only one tree, but three actual trees - destroyers (0.11.2, 17 March 2021), battleships (0.10.1) and cruisers (0.8.9, 23 October 2019). These trees took four years and more to grew. Both ships are sailing. be it with Sabaton or in the premium shop. Tirpitz available since 17 September 2015 and meanwhile endeavoured to become the Derpitz. This was another shortly realised foreboding. It's here, alive and kicking ("Błyskawica was first released for sale on 20 December 2015 for the EU server and 25 December 2015 for the NA server"). There's even the sister ship Grom as new tech tree, with the (per the time of writing) current patch 0.12.4. There are 37 postings before my recap here. From these, roundabout 40% held an idea that was destined to become true later on. I think that this is quite a success in predicting. Regards, Nightowl
  6. Hello, I have just resetted a ship line (my US fast BB in this case). As advertised, all assigned ship commanders went to the reserve. But they also lost all their specialisations, every single one had their skill points resetted. I do not recall this happening after my last Harugumo line reset. Bug, bug-turned-feature or truly designed feature and faulty human memory? Can anybody confirm? Regards, Nightowl

Tech tree resets and ship commanders skills

I found the reason. In fact, it's as I hypothesized, I simply forgot that I did not play New York and New Mexico since the last option to reset commander skills for free... My bad. As I only have one guy per tech tree ship assigned, I checked it with putting my Iowa commander on a BB premium, so I saw that he has his skills still fixed. Regards, Nightowl

I don't understand players who bring into brawl non brawl ships

Yes, and and additionally to this suitable brawling equipment (compounded with a speed boost), your guns on the Renown '44 load in 25 seconds. It's IMHO not a bad pick (especially f you're playing in a division). Regards, Nightowl

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

I may have created a new meme of Convoi mode? Successful blind shot on Liberty's spawn (using Ohio, HE and spotting plane): It actually elicited some hilarity at Red's side. Regards, Nightowl (+ replay: 20230610_010020_PASB510-Ohio_52_Britain.wowsreplay)

So - three days - what's it going to be?

For me, it shall be a T10 ship. But I'm totally unsure what to get, as I can basically afford every ship with the exception the FDR (accounting for the remaining steel bonuses from Ranked). I've kind of shortlisted the Forrest Sherman, Marceau, Z-42 and the Tromp, Bazan and Malta are somewhat behind them. But the Gato is also something enticing (for the history). I'm quite sure that the purchase won't be a cruiser, as this class is not something that I'm playing or enjoying much (outside of Coop). If I cannot settle on a ship, recruiting Auboyneau or Lütjens is also an option. Feel free to look at my plain average statistics if it helps for tips here... Help is appreciated. Regards, Nightowl
  11. Hello, as there was an influx of players from countries that do not use latin script in their language, we're currently bound to see a lot of, for the majority (also the silent one, I'd expect) not understandable messages in chats, be it in-game or in port, namely written in cyrillic. As WoWS is still designed as game with teamplay, I'd like to see that the chat functionality disallows writing with symbols that are not part of our (western) European sign sets / "Western Latin character sets". That would be helpful, as even though John Smith is likely not fluent in e.g. Danish, Nynorsk, French, Polish or Spanish and only knows English and a bit of German, he may be able to understand what gets messaged in these foreign tongues. Even Russian has a lot of words sourced in e.g. French, so, as long as they could be read, messages could be understood. But that won't work if John Smith is not even able to decipher the signs used firsthand. So: please block Cyrillic, Kana etc. from EU server based chats! Regards, Nightowl

    Advice requested: Bourgogne v Stalingrad

For the question of Bourgogne vs. Stalingrad (I do have both, but a really strong bias towards one...), I want to write about 2 opinions from people in my clan, one of these being myself. I'm really fond of the Frenchman. Even though I'm often saying that the vessel is the best cruiser I'm owning (on account of its smallish gun calibre and speed), you do get great tools in your BB slot: quite a lot of barrels (12) fast loading guns (my ships loads in 25s) decent range of 24,8km, even though you do not have a spotting aircraft main battery reload booster (MRBM) speed boost concealment on the better side among its peers good ASW range My fellow clan member, who's also quite fond of it, does play his Bourgogne more like a brawler putting his emphasis on the short loading time, the speed and the secondaries. That seems to be a serviceable idea, but, as it does not fit my own habits, I cannot comment much on it. I, on the other side, tend to actually use it like a large cruiser at the beginning and often for more than a half of the game - HE slinger for fires, staying at 16-22km from my targets: the Bourgogne HE is decent at this. The MRBM will be ready for punishing broadsides; while the AP becomes IMHO predictably efficient at 17km or, better, less, against the heavies in your matchmaking spread. Additionally, you do have the tactical flexibility to push, engage or disengage nearly at your leisure due to your speed. As it was, the Bourgogne was also my first ever steel ship, and I do not regret her purchase. The Stalingrad is more or less a port queen in my fleet, as she looks like being somewhat of a must have (and she shall earn her snowflake crates). While I did give her a few excursions in Coop, I won't currently play her regularly if at all, as my main PvP mounts are to be found among DD and BB. So, no opinion given on her. Regards, Nightowl

I just had to get it, IX Daisen

Yesterday evening, I took mine out for a first battle in Convoi (using my 20pt Yamato Yamamoto on it). I may have tactically misjudged my positioning and stayed a bit too far away from the enemies, being somewhat wary of the T10 BB in the battle (often having to shoot at 18-20km), but its gunnery did seemingly not suffer much from this. Its shells took good chunks out of those red heavies. I got the impression that the Daisen is basically a tactical equivalent to a IJN T9 Schlieffen when judging the main battery and engine /ship speed performances. Regards, Nightowl

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

I found not a Browning Hi-Power, but a Bart high powered: That's my second Bart Kraken this Ranked season and my third or fourth Ranked Kraken overall. Regards, Nightowl PS.

    Oktyabrskaya Revolutsiya FFT

Hmm, did you look at De Seven Provincien or Almirante Grau? I wonder if the latter is able to possibly stop even a Nakhimov or FDR strike, when you're using DefAA fire and priority AA sector... I did not take mine in Randoms, but in coop, it downs a full squadron (13 planes IIRC) of a T8 CV in less than 5 seconds under said conditions (Def AA, sector prio). By those numbers given in the game client alone, D7P and Almirante Grau have the most potent AA after same or higher tier CV, even better than Ohio, Iowa or Halland. Regards, Nightowl

Planes can't spot ships for others

I agree to disagree. I do have the Halland with a decent enough commander, but I think that both Daring and especially Vampire II are both at least comparable in strength, if not superior. Also in a radar and plane equipped environment. Regards, Nightowl

Convoy missions impossible the way they are designed

Speaking of DD specific convoi missions: can somebody instruct me whether deep water torpedoes (Pan-Asian and Asashio-borne) are able to hit and sink the Liberty ships? I sometimes encounter e.g. a Yueyang in convoi mode and I would like to be able to assess its damage potential against transports. Regards, Nightowl

IDEA Restrict the Captain for T6 and below

I joked about my 21pt Halsey some postings above, but he actually grew this way because he's my guy to go on nearly every premium USN (especially Texas, Alabama and Georgia) ship that I have. And having this much points to use certainly gives some advantages, these are some numbers that I got with my Halsey in Texas in the last T5 Ranked season: While I do not know how much contributions come from me, from the intrinsic capabilities of the ship and how much stems from the high number of skill points, I'd say that the latter at least helps a bit in improving myself, as stacking mandatory stuff (BB survivability) with quality-of-life things (turret rotation speed - mandatory on Texas and good to have in Georgia, consumables enhancements) is great. Regards, Nightowl

IDEA Restrict the Captain for T6 and below

So you do not want my 21pt Halsey in Erie nor my 21pt Honoré in Bougainville? I'm sad. I do not know for which ship they shall be trained to command... Regards, Nightowl

    Ras le bol

You're welcome. On my part, I'm quite exhilarated by the funny limits of the Forum's word filter. While it took out the infinitive / noun "foutr*" (DE Leo trans) / "foutr*" (EN, Google trans), and of course the English F***, it did not bother about the conjugated form(s)... Regards, Nightowl

    Ras le bol

I thank you already for the closure of the French forum; it's true that we are good for nothing thank you really much for your consideration it's always a pleasure. I bought a sizeable amount of things for WoWS and now, I've reached my limits. I'm paying for a game that's angering me [se saouler = getting stiff drunk, but I'm not aware of any similar idiomatic English expression / N. N.]. The matchmaking is always a huge jest, the RNG and the ballistics also. The balance of ships and nations, how to say? LOL? Submarines making 30 knots surfaced with acoustic homing torpedoes, of course true for 1945. The same ships getting recycled 5'000 times by changing the colour of the lightbulbs, the positions of water closets etc. and all of this to hawk off stale models. On the other hand, you're strong in creating ship branches that do not serve any purpose, always more, always more. Nobody plays the branch, doesn't matter. And why not balancing some old ships? Well, in fact, you're mocking us. It's not this difficult, it's enough to watch the competitions, always the same ships... At least, I'm finished, I still have 1'500 playing days on my account [assuming he means premium days here, N.N.], but I prefer to throw them away instead of taking my head and excusing some devs who [edited]me in the arse [verbatim meaning of "[edited] / se foutent" - figuratively it's "getting totally ignored", N. N.] since I play. There's a lot of games that will be pleased to get my Euros. Adios. @Karasu_Browarszky @MrWastee et al.: That would be a quite faithful translation, I added some punctuation and remarks. Hope it helps... Regards, Nightowl

Hope i won't see this in WOWS

To see this in WoWS, we've got to have a scenario à la Final Countdown 2. Regards, Nightowl
