Think how happy that 400 PR CV player is now. Somebody is happy. CVs are great equalizers. You assume most players actually bother to look up stats or to use a stat plugin for WOWS battles. I just got smashed in my Brest after 3 minutes of battle, spotted and dropped by a CV while I was camping/sniping behind a rock; until made an escape attempt/fast dash, then quickly finished off by other reds. It was frustrating and zero fun (my anti rework CVWG criticism, RTS cv drops were so much cleaner, efficient and the enemy felt little or no pain, it was all over so quickly), but I know I deserved to be wrecked. Do you? But look who lost

not enuff. I have heard in this very forum thread that many sub players cannot even get 200 xp per battle. Self included.. -

it would make sense to equip/role dds as the primary sub killers, with cvs as optional sub hunters. maybe we will get there some day. (but some dd players have previously complained at having too much to worry about, already.) -

I can sympathize with this criticism. The window to fire on a sub is usually short, the cost of doing so (bloom) is a high penality. Certainly dropping depth charges is the safer option (no concealment bloom), and I prefer the bb/cruiser style plane drop with selectable area to the dd style stern pass. -

Given that a surface sub would have a far smaller profile than a dd, their concealment on thé surface looks quite Bad to me, one clear weakness. If they are caught one surface they'll often be short of battery power, so cannot dive for long. Is there no longer an XP reward for dmg due to spotting? -

sub with a survival build? That is a problem with dmg scaling then reminds me of the problem with balancing cvs, to make them fun and enjoyable for the majority without being OP for the very small minority of exceptional players. I'm sure I am more representative of the average potatoe in a sub, lucky to get 3 or 4 torpedo hits in a battle and come in the top 5 of players. -

that isn't stat shaming, it is a sincere question. Because people comment on subs and make assertions about their abilities without ever playing them. It has nothing to do with being good or bad at subs. (are player stats for submarines even available?) Outcomes determined by skill level are not a good thing? I'd like to see some examples of such gameplay in randoms, I don't enter ranked or clan battles, where maybe you would see immunity via skill level. This was the criticism often levelled vs CV players, but surely with subs this is much more situational, (e.g a bb vs submarine end game scenario)? Sub player overextended, Belfast responded to team mates call for help, hydro'd and spammed depth charges. Yes probably many players have limited experience playing subs (like me) and do a poor job of evading trouble. But the example was just to show what kind of dmg is done by depth charges, and how effective they are. But how many super skilled sub players that never get detected and never get sunk while being effective and influential, do you know? -

Is it? Could be they keep a janitor on roster. I'd have zero interest normally tbh. (Im not the one trying to stat shame, using insults or calling people I disagree with "subhuman") subs are really easy to counter once they are detected, a cl can give subs a miserable time. So in this case I sent 3 waves of depth charges, and some HE shells when it was near the surface. 3 Floods! -

as one of your colleagues in this anti sub pile on has called those who play subs and make the effort to judge them on their merits for what is fact, rather than fiction or fear, "subhuman". It does seem to reflect your attitude toward others. As for baiting, this is just clumsy and awkward. this I agree, it is either all or nothing. There are those who have mastered the art of sub vs sub warfare, and there are those who haven't. There really is no middle ground. as for bbs, I find depth charges quite effective vs subs, to suppress or destroy. But it isn't always clear to those on the surface, the effect their depth charges have on the submarine (floods, fires and many modules knocked offline, evasive action). Sonar pings emitted by subs are detectable by surface ships within 8 km radius. Periscope depth subs are detectable at standard hydro effective distances (as if sub were surfaced). Many dds, cruisers and bbs have hydro. -

No and I doubt I ever will, I am not a bot, just human. (though i have come close with one particularly broken ship.) I do however try out all kinds of ships, and try to understand what they can and cannot do. As for your own claims about your own prowess, they are unverifiable as you have marked your stats as private As for hydro, hydro is limited to 2 km detection for submarines that are below periscope depth. Which is where subs are also, largely blind, without their own very range limited consumeables. Hydro detection vs subs at surface and periscope depth is the same as vs any other ship. I have found that to be effective at spotting, and targeting, a sub needs to be at least at periscope depth. Maybe I am still learning the ropes.. Pings are visible to all ships within an 8 km radius, allowing surface ships to instantly counter with depth charges to suppress sub activity. Submerge ability is quite similar to a consumeable, in practice, because it is a time limited ability that can only be recharged on the surface (obviously you know this). This means a sub has to manage periods of concealement and periods of exceptional vulnerability. If there are obvious differences to the way smoke works, there are also similarities. -

what is this i'm out button? Being submerged does not make a sub safe, or immune to area of effect dmg (he shells when near surface, depth charges...) There is no "I'm out button." Neither subs underwater, nor dds in smoke, are safe, nor should they be. Both subs and dds have delayed action on their escape cards/jokers (submerge/smoke), both also have to respect time limits on their usage. have either of you tried playing subs in their current iteration, just to understand what they can and cannot do? -

Is this possible? Tell us how to subs can stay under the water ALL the time? I presume you are an expert on this and have play tested subs. Frankly, critics of subs undermine their own arguments with inaccurate statements like these. In what way? Please do enlighten us (and harm anti-sub criticism even more) with yet another display of your knowledge of game mechanics. -

this suggests that subs are underpowered and lack influence on the game. In my recent, and quite limited, experience, it is difficult to get good dmg results in submarines now that surface ship players have adapted and learnt how to respond to them, while it is quite hard to influence the game in other terms as their surface speed is quite moderate (slower than most dds) while their surface concealment is quite similar to dds - this means it is hard for a sub to compete with a dd player for positioning, capping, and flanking manouvres. how is this different to a dd player? And isn't the old criticism against CVs the opposite, that they are immune to serious battle dmg in the early game? It seems to me there are many contradictions in the criticisms against submarines in WOWS, which don't give an impression of sincerity. -

UnterSeeBot replied to Tanaka_15's topic in General Discussion
I am sure many of the targets you shoot at, as a bb player, are also spotted by other players. Just because you have line of sight, does not mean your ship "sees" them, they only appear visible because a dd (or sub for example) is within the targets spotting range, and relaying target information back to the team. The game does not do a good job of highlighting the contribution of scouting and spotting, because it lets you imagine that firing over an island is the only form of indirect fire. In any case, your proposal would mean that 50% of your targets (as a bb player) would benefit from 1000% dispersion). -

better but I am no longer motivated, I need to recharge my batteries after this : and play some CV games. I think the server human population deserves a break.. Question for anyone who has played subs with success, how do you see your role in battle, and how do you best influence win/loss outcomes? -

I was being sacarstic about the 200 xp base dmg, in some battles 250 xp seems to be the amount of xp that as many as 50% of players in a team struggle to obtain, whatever the ship type they drive, whether driving a sub or a battleship. To get less than 200 xp usually results from a disconnect from the game server, happens to me sometimes. AFK players get a warning and zero xp credited. Very rarely, but also possible, subs with the slow speed may simply lack opportunities to deal effective dmg if one team steamrolls the other. But then the incompetence is not due to the sub driver, but to one or other of the teams. btw, have you tried the subs out for yourself? As they have been continuously available for such a long time already, you must be quite used to them.. -

the very first iteration for the Halloween operation in 2018 was very popular. Then development was put on hold due to the decision to go ahead with the CV rework (a far more disastrous, divisive and expensive project). Since then most iterations were "alpha," designed I presume to experiment with outliers, and find the limits of playability. This latest "beta" iteration is not so bad, feels quite polished (except for UI/naming which is totally unintuitive, why not just give subs Passive (ear icon) and Active (speaker icon) sonar, and name them such?). Anyone can jump into subs and after a couple of coop battles understand the basics. -

Be reasonable. right now subs are not even researchable, and players are learning how to play them. This state of affairs will continue so long as subs remain in testing. The sooner they are released as tech tree researchable vessels, the faster player ability levels will reach a satisfactory level/average. Without a single previous sub battle in randoms, I was able to jump into a tier x Balao sub, even without having remapped my keyboard controls (azerty) from the default (querty),, and made a magnificent 200 xp.. Faster we get subs released as researchable vessels, faster this situation will become as rare as a dd/cruiser/bb or cv not even making 200 xp.. -

by a WG consultant for World of Tanks. Since the game was announced, public statements by WG have been inconsistent, but on this topic, the only person on record to have stateed that subs would never appear, was not part of the WOWS development team (as far as I am aware). -

jet fighters are already in game, while slow torps = naval mines for area denial (not even WG could sell us 0 kph torps), while some say the cv rework bomber controls are based on coding for cruise missiles. The ideas are already out there, and so are the means to implement them. (though I doubt we'll ever see either cruiser missiles or naval mines!) -
