    General CV related discussions.

DDs tend to only have short range weapons. So they need to get closer than other classes. And they maybe attempting to assist their team by spotting targets, so again they need to get closer than most. On the other hand, a DD maybe not be that near the enemy and still get spotted by the CV (a cruiser with RPF could have located the general direction of the DD and asked the CV to spot it). So yeah, spotting DDs is a priority, for most classes CV (plane spotting), DDs (direct spotting) and CL/CA (radar, hydro and RPF giving a direction to nearest target). The problem here is that the game doesn't reward that much (in terms of credits / XP) for spotting & spotting damage. Heck, the game doesn't actually show spotting damage by default - you have to enable an option to see what you have done. It does reward some XP for spotting, but not much. And these two factors can foster a selfish attitude - I've even seen YT vids where a team asked a CV to spot and he refused (bluntly) as there was no personal incentive. You need to think "how can I help my team win?" instead of "what's in it for me?". Having said that I'd solve that particular problem in a different way - remove direct plane spotting and restrict it (at most) to indicating the location on the mini-map. Not all have smoke (French, PanEuro, PanAsian with radar). And those that do may be on cooldown or running out of charges.

    Update 0.11.11 - Bug Reports

Four in this one. An Azuma, Georgia, Alaska and just to the left, hidden in smoke, was a Groningen (see minimap).

    Update 0.11.11 - Bug Reports

There is still no option to restore the default camera aspect for the spotter plane to the, original, elevated view. I much prefer the elevated view and find having to switch to it, with the C key, annoying.

    Unsportsmanlike conduct

So, consider this: if you're the last one alive in a Lightning, your team is way up on points, has most of the cap zones and the last ship on the enemy team is a Colorado on the other side of the map. All you have to do is nothing, there's no way the Colorado can win unless you get killed. Could you get an unsportsman like conduct penalty if you win the game by running away even further from the Colorado and hiding behind an island (and stopping) to run the clock down and win on points?

    General CV related discussions.

With the initial roll out of subs it was even worse. A new player could play some matches with a T6 premium (they could get a freebie Warspite via a referral) to unlock the T6 sub. Then they could do some easy missions (in co-op) to get the T8 sub and then rinse & repeat to get the T10. There was nothing to stop them taking a T10 sub into Randoms with no experience of that environment at all.

Operations are a hot mess now

The balance of Cherry Blossom is just fine. A tough challenge, but certainly possible to complete the mission objective in the time allotted. Hermes is better than it used to be (when the BBs bots dropped everything to target a cruiser as soon as it was detected) but I find the result less certain. I still isn't a operation I look forward to. Aegis is the problem one at the moment. I'm not sure if it's a change to the bot AI, the upscaling of tiers (when there's T8's in your team) or the player base. But when you're in a cruiser it can be quite hard to survive even past the second wave.

    AA builds

I would like DefAA incorporated into Priority Sector. It always seemed daft to have two consumables (on different cooldowns) to buff AA which counter one thing only - planes. Yes it would be an AA buff, as DefAA would be on a shorter cooldown with unlimited charges. But it would probably just level the playing field rather than making AA overpowered. That would then free up cruisers to equip hydro - which is always useful, not just when there are subs lurking around.

How to use this account on steam?

I play WoWS under Steam, but I did so from the start, ie by not installing via WGC. Sadly, I don't believe there's a way to link an existing WGC account onto a Steam one.

    AA builds

Ohhh, yeah baby. The selection of T9 premium light cruisers is, indeed, somewhat limited in number and capabilities. Dalian - like most Pan Asian CLs no hydro nor radar Vallejo - Unusually for a USN CL no hydro nor radar - could have been a good pick for random ops otherwise. Hector - when available, could be OK. Crawling smoke + hydro, but has to choose between that and DefAA ... and that's it. No T9 premium equivalent of Edin/Cleve/Mainz

    AA builds

I don't have D7P, but one of the reasons Cleveland is now one of my faves for random ops (where the types of opponents is uncertain) is that it has a good selection of tools - without having to choose one OR the other. Radar for spotting the DDs in Cherry Blossom or the transports that get smoked in Narai DefAA for Hermes ... ... and hydro for Hermes & Cherry Blossom

    Need help to understand...

It would be nice if the game told the player what the weather effects are. Eg, when holding down CTRL move the mouse pointer over the cyclone / thunderstorm icon and it showed the concealment / dispersion effects.

    So, First battleship...

Bismarck can be a tough nut to crack in this game. Very solid armour layout which makes it hard to hit the citadel (which contains vulnerable systems like engines, boilers & ammo magazines). Good manoeuvrability, excellent secondary guns and hydro-acoustic search (sonar). Reminds me of a Jingle's YT vid, where a Tirpitz player had some chat banter with a guy in Hood Tirpitz : Hey Hood. Have you met my sister? Tirpitz : She's cute ;-) * slight pause * Hood : No Hood : No! No, no, no! Hood : Nooooo!

Top 5 Ships That Were nerfed To Hell

True, but in his opening sentence says "premiums". Interesting fail for YTs captions though "nerfed nurses" ??? Carry On, Doctor quotes incoming in 3, 2, 1 ...

    So, First battleship...

When a ship fires its main guns the range at which it can be detected will bloom from its standard concealment range, say 10km, upto the range of its guns, eg 16km. If the ship does not fire for 20sec that detection range then reduces back to its concealment range (10km). If there is no allied ship within that distance to spot the ship then it will disappear. Known as "going dark". This can be a big factor at higher tiers as there's some battleships, like North Carolina, that are quite stealthy (with a concealment as low as 12.3km IIRC) , but that have a considerable gun range of 27km. Such a ship can go unspotted, and get quite close, until it fires it guns. And those guns hurt - A LOT! As it takes around 30sec to reload it will go undetected 20sec later (unless a team mate has since closed to within 12.3km). A North Carolina player can then have the choice of firing again or relocate somewhere else if he's in a vulnerable position. I got blapped, when playing in cruisers, by a few (undetected) N. Cal bots when I first met them in co-op When you have grasped some of the game's mechanics (such as spotting) and are more familiar with the flow of a match, it can be worth checking out premium ship reviews by LittleWhiteMouse before opening up your wallet. https://forum.worldofwarships.com/topic/210980-mouses-catalog-of-ship-reviews/
  16. IIRC Portugal is Britain's oldest ally at something like 800 years.

    CODES

+1 for this. IIRC, there's a couple of pinned threads in the French & German sections for bonus codes. Seems odd we don't have one for English.
  18. My baseline for an *awful* cruiser is T8 Haarlem - truly terrible in co-op. In comparison even Agano is ... OK (just about).

    So, First battleship...

New players should be getting rentals of the French T8 battleship [RICHELIEU] and the French T6 cruiser [LA GALISSONIERRE]. Those can be used in co-op to get a feel of what mid and high** tier battles are like. Also, newer players may be also offered a temporary rental of a premium ship - when I started I had rentals of T7 Scharnhorst and T6 Graf Spee. That can also be useful as you can use it as a "try before you buy" scheme. So, if I was the OP, I would bide my time before rushing out to buy a high tier premium ship. As your account level progresses, you might also be permanently given a mid tier premium ship - in my case T5 USS Marblehead, which I still find fun in co-op. ** A tier 8 ship, like Richelieu, can find itself uptiered into a T10 match.
  20. WoWS is probably detecting, and honoring, the language settings of the operating system. So, you'd probably have to set your Windows locale to a Cyrillic language.
  21. I think that was T6 Gokase. I have the perma bonus package for T7 Omono, and I'm pretty sure I didn't blow FreeXP on it.

WG, I need help with the simple maneuvers.

WG glossary of terms Evasive Manoeuvres : see "Just Dodge" ... .... Just Dodge : see "Evasive Manoeuvres"
  23. Part of me wants to say "FreeXP sink", but we did get a freebie perma-bonus package. I'll probably just smurf around in co-op with it to (slowly) work my way through it.
  24. I'm still at T7 Omono. Tech tree cruisers are ... OK in co-op. They can struggle, in the closer ranged environment, with their slow turret traverse. Accuracy is good and, as others point out, the torps hit hard. The option to equip a spotter plane, instead of a fighter, would have been nice to temporarily increase range. The premium T7 Tokachi is fun in co-op though. Quick turning turrets which rotate through 360° and 12km, 70knot torps with a reload booster. Not quite as agile as Atlanta, which it is sometimes compared to, but still able to mix it with the bots due to the very flexible turret handling.
