    Does anyone know if those ships will be available in the Armory, eg for coal, at a later date? Might be nice for players to be able to obtain these ships if they missed the event.

    Agreed, if network contention is a factor then dakka-dakka botes are going to make things worse as they will for server load too. So it sounds like, depending on your situation, that high RoF ships are not helping in either case. So basically WG has DDoS'd itself.

    I'm not sure network latency / ping time** would explain my observation but server load / lag certainly would. ** My ping times are pretty good and consistent and not had any increase in ping when I observed getting citadel hits near the stern.

    Des Moines does it again. Had to chase down the carrier though as the bots were ahead in points due to taking two of the caps early on.

    Not sure it's related, but I started to notice I scored more citadels if I didn't give quite enough lead. Shells hitting amidships = overpen while shells hitting the stern = full pen or citadel. It's almost like the server seems to think the ship is a little behind where the game client thinks it is. So, in effect the overpens we're seeing on hits amidships are actually recorded, by the server, as hits through the bow.

  14. One definite improvement is the removal of "Operating Depth" where a sub could fire its guided torps but not be vulnerable to shell fire. Subs at periscope depth are vulnerable to HE gun fire, so can they be hit with the normal Dutch cruiser airstrike? I've not had the opportunity to test that yet - I'm currently at Haarlem and not particularly enjoying (nor frequently) the experience. Having said that, I would like the Dutch cruisers to have an additional ASW airstrike, with the same range as their conventional ones. Also, fixed the tag.

    Someone asked me yesterday if Ägir was worth the 1M FreeXP. I think this result goes some way to answering that question. OK, bot heavy team, but none the less it was fun. I particularly like how it looks like I'm sailing off into the sunset at the end of the story.

    WG could quite easily measure how "popular" subs are 1) Add up the negative karma reports for sub players. 2) Add up karma gained by the players that sink a sub. Compare (1) and (2) against the total number of reports and compliments sent in that time period. To be fair, it not so much the subs that a lot of players are objecting to, but the guided munitions against surface ships and their inability to do anything effective about it.

    The main problem with subs are the homing torpedoes on surface ships and the pitiful countermeasure they have. I suspect subs would be more widely accepted if 1) Submarines could only ping another sub. Surface ships would need to be targeted, by subs, like all other torpedo armed ships, ie with the aim indicator or 2) Or give surface ships dedicated "Acoustic Decoy" feature that has a much shorter cool down than DCP Also, it might also be an idea to put a message in chat to indicate a sub player has used their hydrophone, just like surface ships do with Hydroacoustic search. That way the rest of the team know that their sub is (at least) trying to take on his opposite number. The homing torpedo counter measure we have is probably quite able to be countered itself. I could easily imagine a sub player waiting for a surface ship to use DCP, to control fires or fix a rudder/engine etc, and then ping the ship. Doesn't really make sense that you can't use an anti-homing countermeasure just because the crew have recently used a fire hose or some spanners.
  19. Start of a co-op match in HMS Dido with a Rahmat & Anshan for company. All three ships have no hydro and ASW that only works when you sail over a sub. Thanks, WG.

    Carrying in co-op is still a thing? Bots almost took our base and the only human players left were me and the U-69. We defended the base against two cruisers, the enemy sub and the Nagato. Though I had to smoke up against the latter as I was on low health. I even complemented the sub player, well I guess there's a first time for everything.

    Co-op bots actually seem to take on subs. I was in Fiji and got hydro'd **, as I approached the channel in Two Brothers, from a bot Zeiten. But it looked like the hydro was in response to our submarine (at periscope) depth. It detected the sub and finished it off with a depth charge strike. ** I've not seen co-op bots use hydro since their AI got reworked around a year ago. Whereas bot use hydro quite often in Scenarios.

    It's been suggested, not just by me, that pings should only target other subs in that case. Restricting pings to sub vs sub would probably take a lot of salt out of the playerbase's reaction. In fact, I've rarely seen sub players take on subs - even in co-op. If pings were only able to target other subs it may encourage them to seek out their opposite number.

    Not in co-op, subs are far worse than carriers where the main threat is from dive bombers. However, in PvP I do realize CVs can ruin concealment which isn't so much of an issue in co-op. Most other threats from a bot CV in co-op (rockets, torps) can usually be dodged. Also, I suspect some players are still fairly new to subs so are probably figuring out how to master them. When they do, I dread to think what PvP will be like. FWIW: I've never, ever seen a bot CV come top of the score board. Co-op where a bot sub, that lost the match, almost scored as much as the human (possibly) sub player that won.
