Subs CANNOT be countered. Here's PROOF.

Indeed it is hard to keep track. I'm still unsure under what circumstances RPF detects a sub.

Subs CANNOT be countered. Here's PROOF.

What use is radar? WG removed it's detection of subs at periscope depth in the current patch. I suppose it could have excluded the possibility of a destroyer, but that's all Edit: fixed quote source

Only thing he could have done was use hydro, maybe avoided some torps but the result probably would have been eventually the same. Also does RPF work on subs at periscope depth? It used to, but since radar no longer spots in that situation I'm no longer sure.

There's the basic link for you YouTube : Submarines are broken and cheesy If only radar could detect subs at periscope depth Additionally YoutTube : Dolphining is back Judge for yourself.
  5. Homing torpedoes are an obvious weapon against other submarines, where the torpedo not only has to take course & speed into account but depth too. However, against surface ships they are completely unnecessary (unguided torps are sufficient) and the so called "counter" (use DCP & dodge) is widely felt as woefully inadequate. As an act of good community relations, and as a legitimate stat gathering experiment, how about restricting homing torpedoes to just sub vs sub combat? I suspect that this one simple change may go a long way to defuse a lot of the animosity the playerbase feels against the current implementation of submarines.

Are Co-ops are going better ?

Maybe a little. But any bot ship that has smoke does that. Only the Italian ships can pull it off, to some degree, as they have full speed smoke. Cruisers though tend to give themselves away as they charge straight forward and open fire ASAP, so reveal themselves with the ~8 - 9 km firing penalty. BBs can sometimes do it if they're far enough behind their cruiser & destroyer allies, but not often. That though is less of a problem as I tend to prioritize the destroyer & cruiser first. By the time those have been dealt with, the battleship's smoke generator has long since finished. Italian DDs, especially Paolo Emilio, can be quite effective as their gun range & firing penalty is so small they can yolo straight towards you and launch a bunch of torps at you with very little time to evade. That also reminds me, the bot AI for ships with normal smoke could also be improved. Move towards cap zone; Slow down when near; Deploy smoke; Stop inside zone; // Attempt to capture zone Use hydro if available; // Detect any incoming torps or charging DD player When smoke disperses, accelerate to full speed; // Resume normal combat

    Premium commander swap

And is kinda recommended. If you have a special commander, with enhanced skills, it can make grinding a tech tree line easier. Italian cruisers with Sansonetti springs to mind. Also, you can then use your premium ships to retrain that commander when you unlock the next tier ship in the tech tree. Just use that commander on the one branch of the tech tree though so that you don't keep incurring retraining costs.

Are Co-ops are going better ?

Some bots dodge like a pro, others derp into them even when firing long range torps from a good distance. You never quite know what type of bot you're gonna get. Friendly bots still fire torps if you're in the way, but then again so do many players now that team damage has been removed ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Are Co-ops are going better ?

Yeah, that's an operation though (not co-op) so I suspect it's just scripted, ie "use radar at some position" or "use radar X seconds after spawning", rather than the AI's reaction to a changing situation. What would be nice in high tier co-op would be for the bots to use their ship's capabilities to offensively counter a player's smoke screen. Something along the lines of Does last known position of an enemy ship, that is undetected, lie within smoke? Is that position within radar / hydro range? Use radar / hydro Attack detected ship. Could also fall back on Is there a smoke screen within hydro/radar range? to flush out a ship that was never spotted. Could even do the same thing with torpedoes too Is there a smoke screen within torpedo range? ie the bots see smoke screens as torpedo magnets as well. Defensively, they could also use hydro to detect torps launched by ships inside a smoke screen Am I within torpedo range of a ship that was last seen inside a smoke screen? or Am I within torpedo range of any undetected enemy ship and is there a smoke screen within that distance? Ie, that angry looking smoke screen might be hiding a ship that was never spotted and it could have launched its torps if I am within its range?

Are Co-ops are going better ?

BTW: the "deploy smoke screen when I'm detected" code in the bot AI works quite well on Italian DDs, Yolo Emilio being the prime example. Lower tier tech tree ones not so much as the smoke generator doesn't seem to run long enough so you have a small opportunity to do something about them if you don't have radar or hydro. Not sure about the high tier Italian tech tree destroyers, haven't seen many of them yet.

Interesting. I saw allied bots use radar a few times before WG tweaked the AI last year. Not seen it since, but I'll keep an eye out.

Are Co-ops are going better ?

There's been some improvements, but many of the old issues remain with co-op bots. Problems : Needlessly ramming each other (but sometimes they miss and do a drive-by) Getting stuck on islands Their aiming is still a bit hit & miss (pun intended ) Improvements : Bots will attempt to capture your team's base in Standard battle mode Bots actually use hyrdo** and depth charges against subs Bots sometimes attempt to use the appropriate ammo type Bot subs now actually submerge (previous patch they always sat on the surface) and ... ... they can quite effectively use the ping + torp + DCP + ping + torp-hit sequence of doom Carrier dive bombers are now a threat though rocket & torp airstrikes can still be dodged most of the time. Bots that spawn on a flank sometimes also sail away from it towards the centre of the map or the other flank (eg Two Brothers). This can be good & bad : If you're on the same flank, they're running away from you so you have less opportunity to deal damage If they sail towards your flank you can farm plenty of damage or .... ... you can get overwhelmed and be quite quickly sunk ** I've never seen co-op bots use hydro in any other situation since WG reworked their AI whereas the smarter bots in scenarios tend to hydro against regular surface ships

    WoWs not to enjoy anymore!

One of my suggestions, as an alternative to the awful stun bomb proposal, was dropping engineering supplies which creates a small area in which a ship can heal. A bit like repair ships in operations or the buffs you could catch in Arms Race. Not sure though if the heal should only work on allied ships. For example if the heal applied to every ship and an enemy used the repair, does the Support CV player get penalized as he literally "gave aid to the enemy" ? Might not have been his fault either, Eg : he was giving aid to an allied ship and that team mate screwed up

    what is Over Penetration ?

Not entirely incorrect. Most overpens, as others have stated, are caused by the armour being too thin to arm the fuse so that the shell never explodes. But it can also happen when the armour is thick enough to arm the fuse. Some ships have a hull that is so narrow that a fast moving shell may actually arm, but it passes through the narrow ship so fast that it goes clean through and detonates outside the ship on the opposite side. Ie: the time spent inside the ship is less than the time delay of the shell's fuse. Smolensk I believe is a culprit for that, but you also probably also get the same effect when firing that the tip of a ship's bow. Probably explains why some ships (Italian & French BBs maybe?), with very high shell velocities, can suffer from more overpens than others. This also explains why Royal Navy light cruiser AP is effective against broadside DDs & Smolensk - it has a short fuse timer in addition to improved ricochet angles.

    WoWs not to enjoy anymore!

Yup, there has been some improvements since their initial intro but I don't think we can call the addition of subs a net benefit, far from it IMHO. Maybe restrict homing torps to sub vs sub. Any improvement to AA would probably be widely welcomed, but many CVs can still replenish squadrons quickly so it's debatable what benefit that would bring. Some CV squadrons can drop their payload outside of AA range too, so I'd imagine those would gain popularity if AA was buffed. A good idea sadly thwarted by WGs marketing strategy where they want to sell high tier premium ships to anyone. I remember when I had just started WoWs, the best ship I had was T5 Marblehead (freebie), all tech ships were lower. Then within a couple of weeks WG dangle the carrot with rentals of T6 Graf Spee and T7 Scharnhorst. At the time I thought " I'm not ready for T7, even in co-op". The initial rental of subs was really badly thought through. Any player (at any tier) could get their hands on a T10 sub, with predictable results. It was bad enough in co-op, I dread to think what PvP was like. At least now, the higher tier subs have tier restrictions on the missions that unlock them, though I'd tighten that up to the same tier not 2 below. Not sure how a player is going to actually score well in Support CVs as your BaseXP is dependent on (percentage) damage. If a Support CV is going to do very little damage then your BaseXP and credit score are going to be not very good at all.

And what improvements would those be? Not being sarcastic here (well may be little bit) but I'm genuinely interested what view point a CV player has over the recent developments of the game.

    Are these player made bots?

Yup, that guy. I watched what he (it ?) was up to in one match. Turrets weren't even pointing anywhere near the enemy ships. In fact, aft turrets were at 90° to the forward ones (fwd guns pointing 45° back, aft guns pointing +45° foward ) Only way you can do that is if you point the camera down looking off the side at the ship at the sea about 10meters away from the hull.

    Are these player made bots?

Not at all. I've seen players that are members of clans behave like drunk potatoes too. You really do wonder if there's anything up there. On the other hand, I've also seen clanless players drive their ship like an absolute hero.

    Are these player made bots?

To be fair to WG, I haven't seen [CLAWS] around for some time now. Still doesn't mean you get players that behave like poorly coded bots (typically in Pommern or Agir) in co-op. Kinda sad that you guys get it in Randoms though.

I dunno [CLAWS] had a good try.
  22. OP : Remember Final countdown the movie? Me : Nope * checks IMDB * Me : Oh yeah, I remember that when I was a kid. * nostalgia intensifies *
  23. Yup, I have already obtained Luca Tarigo with the Hot Wind perma camo by just playing co-op. I should have another 360 or so tokens at the end of the event, which I'll probably use on Regia Marina camos. The event seems similar to the Dutch & Pan Asian cruiser ones, where you could get early access to the T7 Eendracht & Chumphon with their perma camos.

    Nelson coming to Lighthouse Auction

Nelson was originally available for 375000 FreeXP, quite reasonable at the time. Sometime last year she was withdrawn (when 0.10.5 was released). And yes, she's not most robust battleship in the game. I can't remember whose YT video it was, but they demonstrated that the stern armour is better than the bow. So if you can angle away from the enemy, and fire the guns "over the shoulder" it's quite a bit more effective. I was surprised when Nelson, and Graf Spee, were removed for being "over popular". They weren't that common a sight in battle. Not at all surprised it has made a come back ... for cash (doubloons). And probably only a matter of time before Spee, Alaska, JB & Georgia also come under the hammer too.
