Closed testing 0.11.3 - Superships in techtree (DB 296)
WWDragon replied to YabbaCoe's topic in Development Blog
No, premiums were nerfed by global changes, IFHE changes for example "indirectly" nerfed Belfast as well screwing other ships as a result. The "subject to changes" text was added in around 2020 on Premium ships leading to questions of older premiums also being subjected to then or not ... I know I would be pretty pissed if Georgia speed booster was changed. Now special ships could and were nerfed but they werent Premium ships, they could always be nerfed. Now buffs did happened to Premium ships (Tirpitz secondary range for example) but there were no nerfs until that little text shown up. -

Satsuma doesnt have a unfair advantage, its a Yamato that can fire from further back and even that got nerfed with that developer that have a stiffy for long reloads. That was it, it worked on Grand Battles because Hanover is the continuation of spreddsheet balans, its a ship that doesnt work on high tier because that type of ships dont work on higher tiers period. And that is not even going about the later additions, one is literally Shimakaze with a utterly pointless mechanic, the other Khaba before nerf ... CVs are trash, only crap are they trash and I dont have any experience with cruisers. The only thing "bad" for the game is a certain mentality, that is "T10 is top dog" and WG offered a lot of T10 "special-ships-because-we-couldnt-sell-premiums-because-no-nerfs-to-premiums" and now T10 aint top dog anymore, they have Super Ships that are designed as a credit drain, unlike Premium T10. Cake Have It Eat It Too And thats the truth. -
Superships to Appear Permanently in the National Tech Trees
WWDragon replied to farko1's topic in General Discussion
I pointed two series that they did were gameplay is not Dark Souls. So what do you say to people that played Armored Core? It predates Demon Souls and even Dark Souls is more in the Kings Field series tone but its not as if they did the same style of game over and over again until recently and even then you have some odd ones (like that VR thing I didnt knew existed). Point being developers shouldnt be afraid to experiment and move beyond their staple as much they shouldnt be pressured to make games "for the masses", FromSoftware made rather different games that arent just King Field or Souls so when I read someone saying they should do what they are told (by who?) I do want to point out what I did, its neither a democracy or a la carte. -
Superships to Appear Permanently in the National Tech Trees
WWDragon replied to farko1's topic in General Discussion
Game development is not a democracy nor its a la carte. FromSoftware is known from making Souls games, there are many people that think they are too hard so according to that logic, they would have a difficulty setting because the "masses" demand it? I kinda stand with WG over this because I see a lot of so called "conspiracy" over game development, yes ... developers have bias, when you get a FromSoftware game you kinda know what are you going into even if they made many other games that arent Souls games (Echo Night, Armored Core), if a game developer bows towards what the "masses" what all you get is a compromised game that chases the fads, like some years ago we had a delude of Survivor with Crafting games, we just need to look at AssCreed to see a game that have no ounce of originality, designed by committee with checkboxes. Also developers dont answer to the players, they are neither elected or employed by the players ... if anything they answer to the company hierarchy and that is what makes all the complains about P2W, monetization and all that kinda moot because in the end its their revenue stream that matters, people love to complain but still play and even buy <insert MW2 boycotters Steam playlist here> that leads to "the mouth is saying one thing but the body is saying another" (Oh I am getting into trouble over this) thats a hell of a mix signals, you know all the people in the forums that "have stop playing the game" but are still active playing with paperthin excuses as "oh but not on this account" because that will certainly show WG that you no longer play on this account (as you started a new one because muh WG stats) ... yep, they certainly going to care about that. I dont like this but I also have the option of NOT buying superships, we all have ... if nobody does then it will fail but we know very well that wont happen, if people brought a Premium Yamato copy then some people will play superships, question became if they fall within WG expectations and they certainly have some otherwise they wouldnt had sunk development (cost) into then and the fact they are being pushed out as submarines are still in development (hell) means superships performed as WG expected.as subs continue to be a problem. -
Superships to Appear Permanently in the National Tech Trees
WWDragon replied to farko1's topic in General Discussion
No, it was a very loopsized experience because it set teams based on nations, meaning axis got the torp boats (IJN) but they had no radar cruisers that mean Allies dominated the game, also because it was historical there were not many axis ships to begin in some classes (BBs because IJN BBs at tier 8 are Kii and Amagi) The problem was it was T8 only, that being the large number of historical American ships that are in the game vs Axes because just look at BBs ... on Axis at the time you had Bismarck, Tirpitz, Vittorio Veneto and Roma vs North Carolina, Massachusetts, Alabama, Vanguard and Richelieu and gets worst on other areas since look at this list ... .https://blog.worldofwarships.com/blog/122 Everyone knew that was a mistake, it should been T6 with +2/-2 to even approach some kind of balance on team composition as that would allowed more ships in entering. Also funny you mention Comrade ships when there was exactly only 3 permitted and one being Mikhail Kutuzov that you cannot get anymore normally, no ... the problem was one side had a variety of ships as the other didnt, this made Axis very inflexible and so easy to counter and that is what happened. -
New Ships Revealed at the WoWS Discord!
WWDragon replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
So its official this is a T8 Austin then? Its a lemon, I mean I am not fond of Atlanta despite being the ship I got my only Kraken in the game but I rather not to be DELET so I have no horse in this race but lets go with history then ... Dido is viewed by the playerbase as a disappointment because compared with other RN CLs it loses everything in exchange for HE, the ROF is within of the historical 5.25"/50 (13.4 cm) QF Mark I but on the low side but since when does WG cares about that when they design ships based on "intended" as intended the ROF would be 10-12 rounds per minute and there is more, the ammunition was SAP, HE or Anti-Radar yet what she gets is AP and HE, before someone goes about SAP being the Italian gimmick several ships have SAP besides Italian ships. Now lets look at San Diego and what it lacks compared with the other 2 Atlanta in the game, no Radar or Smoke with nothing replacing then (and no, the MBRM is NOT a replacement) and far worst ROF is HALF (historically it had a rate of fire of 4 seconds, 8 only in case of power failure and I am putting this out because it have the fire rate that when it had to be manually loaded). What is the same? Defensive Fire, Atlanta torpedoes (not Flint), Hydro, plating (16 mm, that is also historical wrong for the class that had 32mm in case someone wants to argue that) and then what she gains ... 40mm Bofors, thats it. At what point this ... thing is a T8 Atlanta? Just like Dido is a hell of a disappointment, if you want to make a damn T8 Austin then just make a damn CL-154, its not as if Austin isnt some kind of Vietnam era modernization either, you (and by you I mean WG) just want to use the Atlanta hull, exchange some mounts and switch things around and presto, new Premium and thats fine if you keep the ship identity instead of making it something its not, San Diego IS a Atlanta-Class, NOT a CL-154 ... its not Austin and even Austin is a farse because Muh MBRM gimmick! that we dont care because ship is only for youtube memes. -
Devblog: new plane spotting in testing
WWDragon replied to arttuperkunas's topic in General Discussion
Well I can counter with ... Except air spotting ranges are smaller that surface meaning it might get there faster but a DD will detect then sooner, also this is a bit irrelevant since BB have such large detection ranges and they are the most common being permanent spotted. DDs have the ability to disengage either by speed or smoke, if the argument because "well DDs have to" then I have to ask what exactly is being asked since everyone have to deal with spotting, not just DDs ... the mechanic is the same for everyone. As for speed ... DDs often have speed boosters and even without then they outrun about every ship class, the fact that Georgia running down DDs isnt a thing (and Georgia can actually do that) should say a lot about speed diferences. Planes are not ammo, plane regen is slower that DDs torpedo regen and that is not even considering we cannot shoot down ammo. Plane management is the most important thing on playing a CV, this isnt true for other classes that can just drop torpedoes without care. Hydro is about 5km in most types, thats lower that typical concealment range and yes ... it can spot something behind a island but is it more healthy we play as if this is counterstrike? Radar is also incredible dependent since not everyone have it (its pretty much down to USN and VMF,) and it have range and duration, without it we would be left with a ship class that would just be entirely without counter except itself and that would be incredible bad for the game. Also DD spotting is as passive as CV spotting, you COULD do that and many times you do that without noticing, spotting damage ends when they start shooting back and then we have the gun flare mechanic that removes your spotting ... just like air spotting. If the argument is "DD should became invisible at will" then I going to say thats plain broken, spotting is a fact of the game and DDs shouldnt get immunity to being spotted because reasons and said reasons bogs down people not wanting to learn, will CVs prioritize a DD? depends because I am not going to permanent spot a DD that is 20km from my nearest teammate, I might drop a CAP on top but I know it will just run away from it but then again, its not as if I have unlimited CAP either, each flight type have a limited number of then. Now if the DD is hidding in smoke and shooting at my teammates then why on Earth shouldnt I support my team? A lot of these arguments seem to come down to "CVs should have exactly zero impact on the game" just because El2aZeR is a good CV player. The best evidence about the problems CVs have is popularity ... yes, they are there at T4-6 just like a lot of broken ships are at those tiers but its not common to have a CV on a T8-10 match, let alone a double CV match yet we get more nerfs not because the class is "OP" but because WG doesnt mind doing it for popularity as its easy way to score brownie points with the "playerbase", they dont mind making the class entirely irrelevant and then what? you doing to defend a class that can neither spot or deal damage just because CVs Reeee? -
Devblog: new plane spotting in testing
WWDragon replied to arttuperkunas's topic in General Discussion
Agreed. Also its funny DDs do exactly the same thing using their concealment to keep ships spotted, I know the counter argument is "they can spot you and shoot back" but this is ignoring planes are spotted well before they can spot a ship, some people have in their heads so called "counterplay" bogs to shoot back and after plane spotting is done they will go after Radar and then Hydro until all that matters is concealment because there is nothing else. If they want to do this then they should use the same mechanic as submarines with flights having height, planes in low height can spot ships as they do but in return take damage from all AA, planes at mid height have decreased spotting (kinda like this one but worst as in half the existing AA spotting ranges) but in return only take damage from mid and long AA as planes in high height cannot spot anything but can be damaged by long range AA and planes can only attack at low height. CAP as spotters I dont think its that much of a issue outside people that refuse to adapt, its like complaining there is a radar cruiser with 10km behind a island near a cap that is far worst since you have no idea if radar was recently. -
Austin guns are a later development, they are the Mk18 as Atlanta are the Mk12 so you shouldnt think they going to have better ballistics since the Mk18 is from the 1950s and its used on 3 ships Austin, Forrest Sherman (its called something else but its the same) and Jinan. You know, its hard to screw up Sandy as WG did because its easy to simply upgrade Atlanta ... Smoke/Radar (10km because T8)+hydro+defensive AA with Flint torpedoes and the 40mm AA guns, it would be at least a good utility cruiser capable of defend caps so its obvious were they are going and having guns from the 50's in a ship that at that time was on the reserve fleet is ... wrong. WG is not designing ships, they are designing gimmicks and making Sandy around the MBRB is a gimmick, forcing players to use it just so they have the same rate of fire of a ship a tier lower is ... absurd, they arent making a Atlanta, they are making a Austin.
-
Well I wager chances are its Sandy or Aquila, both are eeh! for me looking rather poor that makes then candidates for the shtyard. But as LWM put it, they want a T8 Austin ignoring a lot of Austin parameters, Atlanta guns are rather poor with the only saving grace being the ROF and having to use a consumable for it reach a questionable equal performance of a T7 ship, they did this before ... Belfast '43 and Novorossiysk come to mind and none of those ships are good.

3 stars, usually high damage scores in Narai happens because ... well your team isnt doing damage since they are either out of position or have sunk. Well Narai goes right damage is spread across, you dont have the opportunity to deal half a million damage on your own. -

Honestly I kinda hope they have events with existing ships because how can I pull Nagato without throwing cubes like mad in Heavy Construction? Sure there is wishing well but thats once per year and you can only pick 2 ships. I think this is why they started the whole META and Muse since they going to eventually run out of ships, sure there is the sheer size of the USN when WWII ended put that is in favor of EU and RN and even that is finite. I hope they dont get into the trap of just trying to add more and more because of established players dont care about older ships because they have then because thats not sustainable and then we have the people that just care about the Meta so unless the new ships are better that previous ones, they dont care. -

No, Atlanta have 8x2 127mm guns. https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Atlanta Flint have 6x2 127mm because the 2 wing turrets were removed as Flint is part of the modified Atlanta subclass known as the "Oakland-class" that had then removed. San Diego is part of the initial run and the main difference with Atlanta was a later modification of replacing the 27mm with 40mm, those are listed in the AA description. As for the ship ... no, just no ... This looks to be a Tier 8 Dido, not a T8 Atlanta. -

A couple (well three now) ships have CG, Tone even have a chibi sprite because ... well she is a enemy so ... Chikuma also was the same as Tone until she was released. Sovetsky Soyuz is another example as she have a CG that even got updated for Khorovod of Dawn's Rime. Yamato been name dropped but there is nothing of that sort, her gun might exist, there been a suppose leak that lists her along Alaska gun and Iowa gun but the Mk7 on the leak was gold and the Mk7 is rainbow so ... but it was a old leak so take it as you will. I always point out Yamato as far Azur Lane story goes she exists because she is referenced by other characters, Sovetsky Soyuz have a full CG and we also know she exists yet she is not playable and a lot of people thought she would be the UR in the event and not Kronshtadt. Now being name dropped doesnt mean she comes up next, even having a CG, scenes and voice acting doesnt mean they are coming soon since Sovetsky Soyuz is still not playable. Look I am not saying Yamato is coming next, I just point her as a example of a ship we know exists in Azur Lane universe as she is referenced by other characters and she isnt in any way playable, I could point out Sovetsky Soyuz instead but its easier for me to type Yamato, take me as being lazy to type one name instead of another, if you take me saying "game files" as some kind of leak ... well no, Yamato only exists as far I know as someone referenced. -
Err, no ... they were intended to work as AA cruisers for escort of the Fleet.

I am sure JP Anniversary will have a new UR, not a rerun because they are their largest market. If we follow event releases schedule Aurora Noctis was followed by Dreamwaker's Butterfly so it should be Aurora Noctis->New Event->Dreamwaker's Butterfly->New Event-> Universe in Unison (unless it gets Archived like Polaris). But these as major non-collab events, its possible they could rerun Venus Lane and there is the question of smaller event re-runs, I wouldnt say they would want to run TWO UR events back to back even with one being a rerun but Tower of Transcendence was followed by Abyssal Refrain even if we had a smaller event (Lunar New Year) and a rerun in the middle, I was honestly expecting they spreading then further and loading 3 URs on the first half of the year is excessive and that is not counting the UR rerun. Also I wouldnt count on Alaska being any time soon, Yamato been named dropped and she isnt even in the files ... neither Tiger (C20) considering Vanguard is better candidate but neither had any remarkable careers, heck Tiger could end up as a Elite so they do the same as they did with the An Shans. -
Problem with Dido is that its a really crappy Atlanta and it pays, as LWM put it, Commander Skill Tax so its requires a dedicated captain that wont work with the rest of the UK line making unsuitable as a trainer. Canarias is more of a unknown, its a "possible" template of the Spanish line but its somewhat unique as it stands even after the rounds of nerfs, both are "balans" of being free premium ships (no matter what WG says about how they balance ships, we know its BS) and seem rather mediocre, maybe not the worst but you better served with other ships.

Eskimo rerun is 2 weeks thats a bit unusual since its a mini-event. I think Aurora Noctis rerun is coming up next, question is when Dreamwaker's Butterfly re-run happens because if we follow event - rerun - event - rerun then we get some new event after the rerun and then we have the game anniversary in May with a expected UR.
