What is best CV line for players that like torpedoes?
WWDragon replied to seXikanac's topic in General Discussion
No because they still suffer a -50% return speed, you are spending points for a -15% ship (not planes) detection range with a huge penalty to plane servicing, sure you can get closer undetected (no, you wont) but why the hell would you want to be within effective gun range of the red team? Only when the match is at the later stages should the CV start moving into the front line when the flank is secured and red team doesnt want to break concealment so they dont get focused fired. -
Heh ... First, players enter and leave games for a multitude of reasons so a sign of a declining game is when its only filled with jaded veterans that spend their entire time complaining about the game as healthy games have a balanced influx of players as well players that leave. Second, yet when WG tries to standardize people (said veterans) complain about the game being dumb down and if WG didnt add new ships people would complain about the lack of new ships even if they added new maps because WG cannot win the approval of said players and they know it, thus they try to gain new players (the so called "clueless noobs") in order to have a stable player population. Third, perfect balance is impossible unless so basic that would be utterly boring but I am sure someone will bring up other games that are "balanced" despite the fact they continue to have balance passes as well their own playerbase having opinions over said balance. Submarines are a substantial investment by WG part that no matter what shows they are still committed to the game, unless you prefer maintence mode. Forth, this is not mutual exclusion were work on ship models are not done by programmers with bugs being done by them, bugs persistence often is due to being engine related and hard to even diagnose. Also said programs might not be even allocated specifically to WoWS but rather to all games using BigWorld as the "sold" part, Premium ships often have long testing stages and not just released when the model is finished and they wont need much of the programmers time beyond implementation stage with their parameters being easily altered. I have my grievances with the game, I hate the whole "win game" condition for the daily that along the 20m match timer is to me excessive for example, I also seeing WG being far more stingy with rewards making events being a glorified pay gate, lack of operations that appears to be some kind of irrational fear players will not play Random leading to a very uneven progression entirely favoring the jaded veterans, if people play "badly" Random is often not because they are "noobs" but because they dont care, that includes players that been playing in the last 5 years, I dont like Random because as I see it its a 20 minutes waste of time that impairs my progress.

I suspect this part is also not in Tone article ... But does it matter? Boise was sold to Argentina in 1951, removed from service in 1971 with being sold in 1978 were what you posted making sound like the ship entire career was to be a detention center ignoring that she served in the Argentinian Navy for 20 years and was rotting away for longer that of being used a detention center. But I forget this is 2021 and the order of the day is we concentrate on the mistakes of the past, make sure to never ever forget or forgive anything or anyone no matter the circumstances or history, no we must CANCEL!

And on the other hand Haarlem is better armored with 200mm protection as De Zeven just have 75mm belt and thats it, Haarlem have 40100 hp vs 33800 hp of De Zeven, Haarlem also have 203mm guns as De Zeven are 152mm and we are, of course, comparing a heavy cruiser with a light cruiser with De Zeven having better weapon performance because otherwise it wouldnt be funny. I question De Zeven being able to survive anything that hits her above destroyer guns, the 150mm German "DDs" are going to gun her down and light cruisers have to bring utility, the engine boost is useless because 34.5 knots is far too slow as Mogami have that as her base speed, Charles Martel is better armored for God sake and Edinburgh even if less armored that also means it takes overpens and have specialized repair crews and a ton of utility with smoke/radar, and hydro, heck it have similar protection to Chapayev with the only difference being it have a submerged citadel that I dont think means much considering about everything with 100mm+ is going to punch right into it. The lack of utility dooms the ship because unlike CL lines it have no utility, without it is just a CL that brings nothing to the table as it even lacks survivability tools, hell since are talking about this the fire chance is 11%, Chapayev have 12%, at least Specialized Repair Teams allowed the ship to survive for a bit instead of "there goes 2/3 of my HP as citadel damage, time to go to the back of the line I guess" without the ship offering anything to support the team ... not firepower, not utility and certainly not survivability. And before I forget, the fact they keep buffing air strikes means they must be doing crap all because this is WG that loves to nerf anything they can so the whole 13km range? I dont think it matters because air strikes have a serious flaw ... that being the range, all you can do is call one when the target is within gun range, in De Zeven case that is about 2km of detection range and I suspect the reason it was buffed was because the air strike is called and immediate the target pushes ahead, detects her and sinks her if he doesnt run away, this is why Air Strikes are a gimmick, the planes reee crowd fails (as always) to understand the range would have to be at least 17km to actually do anything of value that WG wont do because otherwise it would actually be a threat to backline snipers, the only value Air Strikes have is to dislodge a parked target but the risk of getting well within gun range and be wiped out is rather obvious meaning even that one is rather conditional so 13km or 12km doesnt matter because its going to be used against targets that are lacking the firing angle to sink then.

Sorry about posting again ... New values are: Charges: 3 Action time: 28 s Reload time: 40 s HP per second: 169.0 hp/s According to the original it announcement: Specialized Repair Party Charges: 3 Action time: 20 s Reload time: 80 s HP per second: 676.0 hp/s So it was 11,520 and now its 4,732 so its definitely a big nerf and one I dont understand because Haarlem have the same exact heal and Hydroacoustic Search along Defensive AA fire as Zeven Provinciën just gets Engine Boost that kinda of a joke considering the ship only goes at 32 kt, Haarlem is half a knot faster ... I am fine with replacing Specialized Repair Party with the the basic version but this looks to be a worst version of Haarlem because its missing a consumable slot that I suspect was the reason why she had Specialized Repair Party in the first place.
-
Of course I have to put all the changes "Specialized Repair Teams" consumable replaced with the "Repair Party" consumable, similar to the one on high-tier Dutch cruisers; Main battery reload time reduced from 7.5 to 7 s; Changed the Airstrike parameters: Maximum range increased from 12 to 13 km; Reload time reduced from 80 to 65 s; So there was a main battery reload buff that is more welcomed.

U.S. Navy Cold War Battle-Carriers: The BB(V) Plan
WWDragon replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Because its a 1980's conversion plan named Interdiction Assault Ship, it also had 320 missile silos for a mix of Tomahawk land attack missiles, anti-submarine rockets and surface-to-air missiles and the gun turrets would be replaced by 155mm howitzers. A review of what? This was a proposal that would turn the Iowas into assault ships, their main guns would be replaced by 155mm guns since the shells for then were easier to procure that the existing turrets ones, this was entirely a response to the Soviet Kiev and especially the Kirov that was also the reason why it didnt left the planning stage, they wanted the Iowas now and this conversion would take too long so they got enough modernization to get then out to sea without being ridiculous outdated . It wasnt the only proposal either, there a few others including one with a angled flight deck for F/A-18 Hornet fighters (I guess similar to the Kiev), and even before that in 1954 there was a proposal to replace the batteries with Talos, Tartar and anti-submarine missile launchers. -
Update 0.10.7, dockyard, "Dutch cruisers. Part 2" event.
WWDragon replied to Tanatoy's topic in Development Blog
Well both Anchorage and Zeven Provincien are cruisers, Odin is a BB and those are considered by WG to cost more. -
Yes and no, it will be activated when (going to assume this) there are no enemies detected or allies within 19km or more or the same number of detected enemies than of allies. It wont activate if there are more allies that enemies within 19km so if you have a allied DD sailing with 19km with no enemies detected guess what? NO BONUS! I too dont get that part because its dumb, its doubling down on "conditionals" that at one point makes me wonder why should I get commander XP when in order to have my torpedoes gain 5% more speed (that ends up being exactly a whole extra knot) the sun must be hitting the Kremlin (not the ship, the building) at a 34 angle and the temperature must be exactly at 6 celsius.
-
So WG nerfed the already under performing secondaries and somehow this is "pandering". This is a game of musical chairs by removing the bonus on Close Quarters Combat to put then on Improved Secondary Battery Aiming that are both 4 points skill ... the 10% dispersion? still worst that the old system that wasnt good. This is why Hanover or whatever was far worst that Setsuna because Setsuna had the ability to engage any target as Hanover spend most of the time being on fire, secondaries dont even dissuade DDs from attacking because they are unable to hit, if secondaries builds were having accurate secondaries instead of a main battery then that would mean they would have to be accurate as player aim, the exchange of that is obvious as secondaries would be unable to pen BB armor or even cruiser armor in many cases and DDs would know that gunboat then would be a bad idea instead of being what it is right now, the DD is only in trouble with the main battery as long he keeps distance.
-
IF I did that I would miss, pre-nerf yes but the extra 2 seconds as your planes are locked to hit that specif dot in the sea means the DD will just go pass then (this was literally what I first tried in PT because I wasnt aware of how it worked) the lockout just gives the DD ample time to avoid rockets unless you get it broadside not looking at you mantaining instead of spasming all over the place because planes reeee or wait for the machine gun sound and then turn hard like they usually do. But hey, if the rocket change was meant to further the skill gap then its doing its job ... BTW we had a CV rework because?
-
Well I been playing Audacious in Grand Battles to get her updates (because having T9 planes is oh so well balanced isnt? its a 38k XP per squad type tax from our "plane lovers at WG"), I score about 5 rocket hits at best, granted those are the T9 because the other two squadrons looked to me to be better upgrades. And no, I cannot hit a DD properly because I have to guess what the DD is going to do in the next 3 seconds, thankfully many make the mistake of trying to avoid me as I am terrible at judging the distances and tend to fall short so all they do is end up taking a few rockets that deal pathetic damage instead of not taking any damage.

Kaga wasnt very affected simply because Kaga main weapon is her torps ... OK she have some HE bombs but Jesus, those planes are made of paper and they just get shredded if the target have any kind of actual AA because they are lower tier. I think Kaga kinda got away better simply because her main problem was torpedo arming that gets a skill for reduction distance as before Kaga torps were more or less avoidable as long you had the speed and turn ability to now being harder to dodge, of course that is true to all CVs but that was definitely a bigger issue for Kaga. Lex is better that Kaga simply because her HE bombers are very good, hitting a DD with Kaga torps wont happen unless the DD lets you or puts itself in a situation that makes avoiding then impossible, Kaga dive bombers are "there" but thats the best I can tell you about them, they simply lack the armor and speed to punch any kind of AA defense without losing most of the squadron as Kaga vs Big E is a bit tricky now because Big E still have AP bombers but she had a lot of rocket planes making her of all the CV fairly easier to play (I dont think she have Kaga "lets have all the planes on the deck" massive regen problem) and thus was spreedsheet considered OP because it was easier to deal damage with her using her rocket planes, her AP bombs are always going to be situational (unlike Lex were they will hurt everyone, DD dont get "a bomb overpen our ship keel and we just take 10% damage") and since I dont own her, cannot talk about her torps, if same as Lex torps thats ... well ... lets say at least they arent KM airdrop bunny kisses.

Here is the thing WoWS is not a competitive game, you only need to look at the MM to know that and I am pretty sure there is some BS going around to average out WR over the "Wo" titles. Also they dont do that BTW ... https://www.gdcvault.com/play/1024237/Balancing-League-of-Legends-for
-
Well yes, kinda ... I mean we have a number of people with different skill levels but also personalities, some people just play to enjoy playing even if they are good at it as other are not very good but play for the sake of playing. The people at the top end up being the very competitive players with a mentality the game must be competitive even when its not designed for that because the good players that just do it for fun arent at the top because they arent competing for the top spots leading to a rather ... well elitist attitude towards the game, to those people mechanical changes just means they will adapt not because its easy or because they can but because they must as other players will decide this isnt a second job and just drop it, good players will likely drop it if the mechanic is enjoyable for then because they arent playing to be competitive and thus the question of adapting or not even the question. This is why I given up and ignore when people talk about their WR because its their headspace and how they view the game, if WG ever listen to those people I give about 4 months before population declines by over 60%.

Nay, we just stop playing the class.

Any idea why some ships more damage with HE shells rather then AP shells?
WWDragon replied to qdfl's topic in Other
Because each class have their own fire duration timers as its not universal, except super cruisers that get battleship fires because vodka for "balans" purposes. Also Yamato is harder to set on fire that JB because tier difference.- 4 replies

Submarines test results and further steps (DB 169)
WWDragon replied to YabbaCoe's topic in Development Blog
I am sorry but who is going to sail Kearsarge if not for the memes, I mean the superstructure (were the hangar is) is massive and covered in just 19mm plating, its a shell magnet ... its bigger that Montana even! Oh noes, it have a 3 plane squad armed with TTs ... sure and when you are basically flying a very crippled rocket squadron you taking damage because this ship have nearly 17km base concealment and you dont have the armor to actually be fighting too close, the only "red flag" is this is a Minnesota with worst armor for a slight better reload that gets a crappy squadron for free, granted Minnesota was pretty bad at release. In order for that match up to "work" you need the other cruiser to be T7 as well the other two BBs and that means the CVs will have to be T8 ... what are the chances you get a T9 BB, T7 cruiser, T7(+) dutch Cruiser, T8 cruiser and then a couple of T7 BBs with the subs being T8 (as there is no odd tier submarines, enjoy being bottom for most matches and have crap pay as a result) and the DDs being whatever. Heck how many matches with double T8 CVs do we even get? Even in T6 they are fairly rare with T4 being the seal clubbing for all classes. -
Well Canada did had submarines at the end of WW II for a very while, both were Type IXC/40 submarines that surrounded to Canadian forces as well a couple of CVs, those being HMS Puncher and HMS Nabob that were Ruler-class escort carriers perhaps better known as Bogue-class escort carriers, they were landleased to the RN with those two being crewed by the RCN.

Submarines test results and further steps (DB 169)
WWDragon replied to YabbaCoe's topic in Development Blog
No, if you mean pre-1945 submarines lacked the submerged speed to pursuit capital ships no matter what they were, be it CVs or Battleships ... even Cruisers were entirely capable of outrunning then. Submarine tactics was a incredible patience for stalking ships for hours such as Shinano that was stalked by Archerfish for about 4 hours before she could fire and Shinano could had outrun Archerfish but by zigzaging it simply did the opposite. If you want to argue about submarines torpedoes having low damage ... sure, I mean Shinano took 4 but sunk due to damage control issues (guess what WG did? lowering flooding chance on submarine torps, balans), Courageous took 2, Shokaku took 3-4, Wasp took 3, Kongo took 2, Barham and Royal Oak took 3. If anything submarine torpedoes are too much on the low damage side or if low damage then why they their flood chance being dropped even lower? No, they dont ... try finding that freaking V DD on Killer Whale on the 2nd part because I know were it spawns and its still a pain in the [edited]even when bots use their AA to increase detection, submarines will likely have a periscope depth air detection range in the 2-3km, you wont find one unless the player is utterly incompetent because its too easy to just dive and wait for the squadron to leave the detection zone because they will spot planes like normal. Note a lot of players are against the damn wire-guided torpedoes because someone at Saint Petersburg really wants for submarines to fight each other underwater despite that was never a thing until acoustic torpedoes had the speed to do that, WG been bending the knee to the other classes by nerfing the subs instead of implementing then properly. -
Submarines test results and further steps (DB 169)
WWDragon replied to YabbaCoe's topic in Development Blog
Submarines have the same air spotting ranges as DDs when surfaced, planes have a hard time to just find a submarines especially if submerged. As for torpedo damage, that doesnt matter as the CV cannot deal with a submarine just throwing torps at it, it wont detect the torps until too late if parked and moving the ship means not flying the planes ... not that it matters considering the sub just needs to dive and be undetectable. Also thanks to the great rocket nerf they are pretty much invulnerable to air attacks as long they can dive because you have to flip a coin and guess if the sub is going to dive or not, the timer takes too long to prevent a submarine to safely dive from damage. In PT I saw a sub using the deck gun to kill a CV, high tier CVs I suppose can deal with that but lower tier CVs all a sub needs to do is get within 5km of a CV and at that point the CV cannot deal with the sub and high tier CVs have to worry about suddenly getting 10 torps as long the sub is patience enough to bypass the front line and engage the CV at the right moment, you are giving far too much credit to the whole "citadel homing", that whole mechanic doesnt really work for a number of reasons one of then being the BIG GLOWING YOU BEING TARGETED marker and the whole "wash the paint off" of damcon that happened because you people keep SUBMARINES REEEEEEEEEE to the point WG made then another high skill, low reward class (like CVs are right now) that simply arent very fun to play. In fact its kinda funny you want to turn this in yet another Anti-CV thread ... hell, if CV had a 100km detection range, no planes, 3km secondaries I bet you people would STILL [edited] about CVs being OP ... -
Submarines test results and further steps (DB 169)
WWDragon replied to YabbaCoe's topic in Development Blog
Kinda late but how are they "immune" to submarines? unguided torpedoes work just fine and submarines are immune to CVs as long they remained submerged, heck even surfaced they arent easy to hit and CVs dont have any ASW, if anything CVs are the most incapable of dealing with submarines. -
No, they werent ... there was a specific type of shell for multiple calibers. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Shiki_(anti-aircraft_shell) .
-
Yes, same as HMS Malaya except that died in Parliament. Its easier because they only need to change a few parameters here and there, like the shells as they could replace QE 381mm Mk XXIIb shells with Hood 381mm Mk XIIIa ones, its always easier to buff things ... I am sure QE armor scheme would be the same but modernizing the AA would not be very difficult either as that is just changing the AA mounts in the hull. No idea if that was proposed or not or if it was why it was rejected, it would make a lot more sense to have a Canadian QE as it have some historical basis and would be preferable to downtiering a paper ship.
-
No, even armor wise we have the very historical German ships. HMCS Quebec would been a better pick because, historical and also because Ceylon Group would make easier for a HMS Ceylon premium ... honestly, WG that would not be hard and it stinks of just making a Canadian Premium to get that Canadian money for least effort, even a QE Premium at Tier VII would make more sense (as that was actually discussed on Parliament), maybe they think players really like Monarch or that Canadians buy anything as long it have a maple leaf on it.
