can u imagine his "luck", totally legit, no BS
Dutchy_2019 replied to HMS_Edinburgh_C16's topic in General Discussion
Not fully true - it depends on the ships you start out with - where Sone’s chances were very good at getting the rare ships. For others, they are not. Literally, the first or second ship I dropped from a Super Container ever was a Missouri, in late 2019. The first ship to drop from a Santa container for me that year was a Jean Bart. But then again, the situation there is no different from regular Super Containers. -

Exactly, which is what I have seen him refer to multiple times on his streams, which is what many CC’s actually do as well. This year’s Santa crates work like they have worked in previous years, and how all loot boxes work (and even the regular Super Containers). -

Not sure it was 100%, but yeah, chances of him getting those ships if there was a ship drop would be very high. And normally Sone is one of the CC’s who tends to mention that during his streams, actually most do. -

Five out of six came from Super Containers. Do you have ANY idea how the CC program works? Assuming he had not gotten a good number of the premiums before through playing, buying some, he would have gotten them as a CC. Coal, Research Bureau, Free XP and Steel ships he would have had to earn himself. So yeah, the fact that he was likely to get rare ships from containers was high. The fact that he got six of them in one batch was luck. BTW, I think someone on this forum posted a single batch draw that included Enterprise, Musashi, Missouri, one of the rare T5s and Makarov. -

Yup. Which I pointed out. Huh, what scam? 1. Even the ship lists were nothing new. The whole mechanism of the crates has been as it was in previous years. The biggest difference was that WG did not state it outright. 2. What scam? The fact that he already has most of the ships by virtue of being a CC? Something he does regularly on his streams? -
Yup, it cost me a Kraken in a game yesterday, and - arguably - my demise a little later. Luckily at that point the battle had been won; the battle itself, however was a close run thing until a minute or two earlier.

I have had a run of 6 ships in a batch of 20 crates, including a run of 4 in a row, in Big Santa Crates. And you cannot accuse me of being a CC or so. What is happening is simply randomness of chance using crates with a fairly high drop rate. The fact that Sone is a CC and someone who has been playing for a while does mean that - if he draws a ship - the odds of it being a big/rare one are high. Similar to someone hitting on good prizes in a number of (near) consecutive draws for giveaways in different streams, as happened this past Bobsmass. That said, even as a CC he will not get Steel, Coal, Free XP and RB ships from WG, which can also drop from containers - as Neustrashimy has dropped for me. -
[Poll] Will you use time-limited discount for Premium ships in Armory (25%, 20%, 15%, 10%)?
Dutchy_2019 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Use it to get Massachussetts on NA, as I have none there. Maybe use them on EU to buy low tier premiums, so they cannot drop from Super Containers anymore. -
How is new Ranked? How do you like new format in actual play?
Dutchy_2019 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Not sure about it being mostly noobs. I think the vast majority of them would and do pick BB’s. Additional issue: people picking ships to knock of snow flakes, not ships they are comfortable with, or good at playing. Though that should sort itself out in the next two weeks. Personally I might pick Prinz Eugen next round, just to see how that works out. And try to learn and improve every game. -

From what I have seen, it is mostly this. If you end up on the right flank, a good cruiser can murder the enemy. If you end up on the flank with the enemy BB’s, you are in massive trouble. -

Well, the thing with many reviews and streamers is that they judge the ship based on their own play style and what they can do with it. So of the ship does not fit their play style, the ship is bad. And yes, that does include some extremely good players who seem to do this. Not to pick on Flamu in particular, but you see the same with his ‘ship picks for ranked’; he is very dismissive of many ships, praises select few. Next thing you see is the latter ships popping up in massive numbers, with too many captains not knowing how to drive them. Conversely you see a number of ships blasted by Flamu but driven by captains who know how to drive them - or at least feel comfortable in them - do very good. I know also of some SuperTesters who have said that some of the changes made to ships just before release - and blasted by the likes of Flamu - were necessary because the ships overall were way too strong pre-nerf ( but did not fit Flamu’s play style). Added complication is the fun factor, which is purely subjective. Over the past year, it seems to me - admittedly a noob - that WG has released ships suited to a particular play style, sometimes combined with a high skill floor, or a low ceiling, and somewhat dependent on MatchMaking and map for results. The one notable exception being (some of) the Russian cruisers. IMHO WG releasing more niche ships is a good thing. -
what happens when you don't finish building a ship in time?
Dutchy_2019 replied to TrangleC's topic in General Discussion
I am going partially by what some community contributors have said, but without spacing a number of things might / will happen. - Quite a few people will be done in a week, which means peak server population in the first week, and much lower thereafter. - If not spaced out, by next monday at the latest the server would be flooded with the new ships (this is also the reason for the way they release tech tree ships). - For the first week or two weeks, the server would be flooded with people ‘hunting’ missions even more than they are now. It risks the game becoming completely unplayable in all modes due to how many ‘hunters’ tend to play in all game modes. We all know the complaints about that on these forums. With the set up as it is now, it is doable for many players at a more leisurely pace. -

To space things out over time. Otherwise there would be people who literally would have finished the whole thing by now. -
can WG explain crap crates from t10 ships?
Dutchy_2019 replied to v3ga's topic in General Discussion
Well, if that is the standard to go by, WG should stop creating any event, because there will always be people who will be complaining and feel disappointed. -
Not only that, but good players would be done in less than a day. I know of a good but not exceptional player, a streamer, who had literally completed ALL available missions for dockyard, Strasbourg and the 3rd campaign - with the exception of the Hizen, CV and Furutaka mission - within 5 hours of the update going live. Problem is that WG has to balance these campaigns for (very) good players, bad players, players with a lot of time, players with little time, casual players and individuals that are a combination of the above.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Dutchy_2019 replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Just finished a game Randoms in Jean-Bart. The game was in epicenter mode. Missed the Kraken because the guns would not fire using the left mouse button. Things that stood out: - I had fun with the Buffalo on my flank. - TWO teams that actually seemed to play the objective (or at least most players were). - TWO teams that more or less seemed to have multiple ships Co-operating. -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

Ranked out today in Bronze in 23 matches. Played HSF Harekaze for all games, having decided that (a) I did not want to play BB, (b) I am not a good cruiser player, (c) I want to improve as a DD player, and am fairly comfortable playing HSF Harekaze Somehow I managed to gain Karma (was complimented 3 times) I only had two complete outright potato moments. I set out with a plan to follow a few basic rules: - Stay alive for as long as possible. - Do try to contest caps you can realistically contest. - Only engage DD's in fights when you know you can (a) most likely win the fight, (b) have looked for an escape plan, and (c) generally try to engage only in a position where you are able to disengage. - Spot and harass over scoring damage (thus only averaging 20k damage, max 52k damage). Lessons learned: - Work on effective torping Most enjoyable moment: Cleaning up the enemy flank of an Odin, Massachussets, Kii and Ognovoi with a Bayard, working together well - me spotting and occasionally torping, he shooting from (behind) my smokes (ironically I ended up last on the team, he ended up 1st with 2.1k base XP). Along the way I completed the 'Science of Victory' Campaign. -
Then apparently I have had some luck with my teams today, as I 'ranked out' in only 23 games, all playing Harekaze. I potato'd a few times. I found that just apologizing, and pointing out what you did wrong helps take away a lot of anger on your own team. My two worst potato moments: - Stupidly sitting broadside capping, not being able to avoid Lightning torps. - Stupidly follow a Yolo Bagration trying to save his **s, where he of course consistently blocked EVERY torpedo angle I had on the enemy BB.

How is new Ranked? How do you like new format in actual play?
Dutchy_2019 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Conclusion after ranking out today (and first time ever playing ranked) in 23 games: General: - Later in the day there were relatively few CV's out there; I think overall I was at slightly over 50% CV - DD-play might be even more decisive than CV play. - The team that is quickest to (partially) co-operate generally wins. - The impact of an AFK player can be massive. I cannot judge / compare this with previous seasons, since I never played 'normal' ranked before, only a single ranked sprint. Personally I like this format, since it gives me as a mediocre / middling player a place to do this at my own level. My overall feeling thouigh is that the rewards for gold are out of sync with the effort needed. -
Sorry, I was comparing this with the whole PR mess. Because to me, it looks as if they have split a number of things that were mashed together in the whole Puerto Rico thing apart again. I have not played the game long enough to compare it to years before 2019.

How is new Ranked? How do you like new format in actual play?
Dutchy_2019 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
I am currently derping around in HSF Harekaze. My observations (at Rank 3 + 1 star), having won 9 out of 13 games: - Very few cruisers out there. - I am NOT a good DD player, but have been able to outplay quite a few DD's. - Team mate support is hit-and-miss; when you have a co-operative team it is fun. - Some BB's just go their own way. - Teams being able to read the minimap will win. - CV in 2/3 of the game. Most frustrating game: AFK Odin, which made the difference between win and loss. Most fun game: Me and a Bayard cleaning up a flank with Ognovoi, Massachussetts and Kii. Stuff for me to learn: - Better use of RPF - Not forget to turn off AA - Work on torp skills -
I think WG have done that regularly. The biggest difference - which I consider a massive improvement over last year: - There is NO need to buy the premium in order for an average potato to have a chance of completing the main event (the dockyard) in time to get the final ship. This is unlike last year where for the average potato to even have a theoretical chance at getting the Puerto Rico, he needed to buy the Gorizia at the start of the campaign (and yes, would get cash back). This year, buying the Christmas ship is not mandatory to get the rewards (or at least most of them), unlike last year: - Not needed for dockyard - Not needed for Strasbourg - Even without buying Starsbourg, you have a chance at completing the 'Ships and Fates' compaign. And even if you do not complete that, there is no serious loss.

How is new Ranked? How do you like new format in actual play?
Dutchy_2019 replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
From the POV of this potato; and for disclosure's sake: - 48% WinRate and slowly improving. - I definitely qualify as a whale. - High end for more or less serious grinds is T7 in the Tech Tree. - A little over 1400 Random battles on 2 servers combined. - All suitable ships available are premiums. - Occasional 'flash in the pan' higher tier games. - Did do decent to good in the last ranked sprint (ranking out in 35 and 28 battles or so respectively). Yeah, by now I want to try my hand at ranked, just see how it works, and just see where it leads me. I try to have fun. If I lose I lose, if we win that is even better. And as it is, I have no interest in going beyond Bronze. I also try to ignore the idiots (no matter what their Win-Rate). As it is, I have decided to go about in a DD (Harekaze) that I feel comfortable in. It also allows me to quickly enter games (no waiting), and work on my DD skills The way I have been approaching it now: - Try and stay alive. - Grab at least one cap. - Spot where possible - especially enemy DD. - Only engage when you know you can win because you have back-up. - Disengage early when needed. - Only play ships I feel comfortable in. I know I will make mistakes, I try to learn from them, and go form there. And we all know that to some extent Winrate is somewhat arbitrary, as there are always the seal clubbers around - who try to pad their stats to above 50% -

This says enough about the fear of CV's, and the knock-on effect.
