BB Fire Prevention Skill: Is it really worth it?
Dutchy_2019 replied to The_Angry_Admiral's topic in General Discussion
Fire Prevention is pretty much mandatory for BBs - to the point where there are some very good players who will tell you that it should be taken as your first 4-point skill on a BB, as soon as you have a 10-point captain. Probably the only reason why you have gotten away with not using fire prevention was you having dumb luck. -
Changes to CV spotting in testing
Dutchy_2019 replied to arttuperkunas's topic in General Discussion
The argument against the "Spotting by mini-map" for the rest of the team being weird is laughable, since this is pretty much what happens in the various weather situations (typhoon, thunderstorm) WG has introduced in the game. And even it being 'weird' for the players elsewhere on the map, IMHO that is of minor importance compared to the problems aircraft/cv spotting pose to the surface players in general - potentially for minutes even AFTER the CV itself has been sunk. It has a suffocating effect on the teams - especially on lower tiers, where this mechanic means that you can be shot at by many BBs from ALL over the map, unless you are lucky enough to have a mountain between you and them. But as soon as you maneuver. you are open to shots from across the whole of the map. But for this to truly work, it would also mean that they have to get rid of double CV games (another abomination, IMHO). -
The way I see it there are TWO solutions for this, that will require a CV driver to do things that every DD, BB and Cruiser player is asked to do in every game: Read the mini-map and pay attention what is going on, so you can move your CV out of harm's way in time. The moment a DD has gotten so close to you as to get you in trouble, you either have (a) not paid sufficient attention to the mini-map and what is going on in the game, or (b) the game is pretty much lost anyway. Steer your ship manually, which means you are not able to engage the enemy in the mean time.

When the hell are WG going to sort out the farce that is current CO-OP?
Dutchy_2019 replied to Axilian_1's topic in General Discussion
Unfortunately, even in Co-op there are the few non-relaxed ***holes out there. I seriously witnessed a BB baby 30 seconds in order a DD to go cap, and when the DD did not obey immediately (why should he, and in the end he was right about the bot movements - the DD went to the correct place) immediately reported said DD. -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Dutchy_2019 replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Grinding my way through Tashkent and F.d.Grosse in Randoms. The first FdG game is mostly listed because it was one of the rare instances where 4 random players on a flank worked together (Missouri, Kitakaze, Ägir and me), where there was some rudimentary communication, and actual focus fire (which rarely needed to be pointed out). We rolled up the right flank, stumbled upon the enemy CVs, and eventually ended up with 9 of the 12 ships killed between the four of us. Also gave me my 4th ever AA Defense Expert. My role seems to have been damage sponge (3.3 million potential damage that game, my new personal record, and 132k damage taken). Second FdG game was a game that started out badly for me, running myself into an island nose first. Somehow recovered, and helped the team win, falling 298 HP short of my personal damage record. Tashkent game was a nice one, where I think I got the most out of her. Eventually yolo'd into the Buffalo when the game was won. The Alaska ending fourth deserves credit, because he had himself dug into an island that it took the enemy a long time to kill him, allowing me to hunt down a Kitakaze, and run back. Finally I collected enough Free XP today so that I could buy the final two Free XP ships I was missing (from those still available): Azuma and Groningen. I still have the Free XP needed to get myself GK and Khabarovsk if needed. -
Selfish play in Narai makes it not worth playing
Dutchy_2019 replied to locoelgordo's topic in General Discussion
The much bigger problem I have come across is basically me in a half health Scharnhorst (sometimes my own f-up, sometimes because the team targets everything but Missouri), being the one ship IN FRONT of the transports when entering the harbour. Meaning at half health I have to face a DD, am already targeted by Phoenix, face the Dallas, and usually also the Farragut, Omaha and Bretagne. If I am VERY lucky, by the time I die there is ONE other ship in a position to protect the harbour entrance. -

Dutchy_2019 replied to locoelgordo's topic in General Discussion
General rule of thumb: 1 Cruiser for the transports - only leaves when Iron Duke is sunk, and might require help dealing with the fort. 2 Cruisers or cruiser + fast BB for the CV, in case something goes horribly wrong - move out only AFTER Missouri is sunk. If you do not get ALL 7 players playing together as a team at the start, you quickly run into trouble though. -
Selfish play in Narai makes it not worth playing
Dutchy_2019 replied to locoelgordo's topic in General Discussion
Much bigger issues with Narai: Multiple people going for transports or CV, and ignoring the rest. No communication at the start - when asking who goes transports or who goes CV often nobody answers; BBs HIDING BEHIND THE TRANSPORTS!! BBs or other ships hiding behind the islands SLOW FAT BOAT DDs taking the long routes into the harbor. In the initial phase (especially) people paying NO attention to positioning, blocking your shots / trop lines, while ignoring the rest. And often putting themselves seriously out of position to do so. Cruisers putting themselves out of a position where they cannot shoot the DDs anyway. People targeting the enemy BBs in port, rather than the DDs and cruisers. -
Well, the way I experience it: ENEMY teammates do NOT ignore destroyers (how else do you collect 2.2 million potential damage in a Tashkent?). However, friendly teammates do.

The ship you regret the most having spent the resources on
Dutchy_2019 replied to Ddaywarrior's topic in General Discussion
Well, as I am a bit of a ship collector, there is not really a ship I truly regret buying with resources (they are free anyway). My biggest issue is trying to find the time to play them all (with the regular TT line grinding I am doing / have to do). -
This is no different than the BB-babies blaming the DDs for everything. Often being quite useless themselves. And as so often happens: the BB that screamed "Report all DDs" ended up below me on the score sheet - and put it this way: I did not make the top half of the team.
-
It will be no less or more effective than this. Allegedly WG has also more of an issue with in port harassment (which this is) than in-game-chat abuse.

Send screenshot to WG Customer support with complaint for harassment.

Another nail in the WOWS coffin as -10% service flag removed
Dutchy_2019 replied to Divertribe's topic in General Discussion
Well, I think not going into battle with all the modules installed is a no-no; if you do not have the credits, get the credits first. As far as the upgrades you unlock by grinding the ship, I can see where you are coming from, and I have no problems with that (might go that route myself eventually). -

Dutchy_2019 replied to Divertribe's topic in General Discussion
I think he meant the modules like Main Armaments Mod 1 or Concealment - at least I did - not the upgrades one can unlock while grinding the ship (like engine, gun range or B-hull). -
For me there are four options, probably: Original Missouri. Kutuzov König Albert Vampire (the T3 ship) My guess is it is either the Albert of (more likely) the Vampire. Because I am not sure they are even on the Christmas Crate and Super Container list.

General Submarines related discussions
Dutchy_2019 replied to YabbaCoe's topic in General Discussion
Just played a game in FdG facing Hakuryu and an enemy sub. ASW in BBs (the air strike) is just too unwieldy. Range is too short, when aiming your guns turn away, and the aircraft take so long to get there that actually targeting the submarine is useless. Unless he is a complete idiot, he will be out of the drop area well before the depth charges actually activate. At the same time, the subs presence almost forces you to camp and be someone solo (as you need to maneuver against his torps), making you an absolute sitting duck against a Hakuryu, who is guaranteed to get 3 strikes off if he know what he is doing. What is the fun for the non-sub / non-CV player in a game like that? -

Dutchy_2019 replied to Azetbur's topic in General Discussion
Eventually, yes... but CV plays SO differently from other classes, that playing 1/3rd of your games in CV is not the way to go. -
Well, I have limited experience so far (currently grinding all of the Japanese to T10, and the German BBs and Soviet DDs): Soviet DD's Japanese cruisers German cruisers

Another nail in the WOWS coffin as -10% service flag removed
Dutchy_2019 replied to Divertribe's topic in General Discussion
Those who just want to rush to T10 will never be stopped, they just have to play a few more games. Or they could whale along the way. What will/might be slowed down, is the casual player who almost by accident ends up in T10. And frankly, I am seeing the difference already in my completely Free To Play account on the Asian server (playing only Randoms from the moment the account allowed me to). -

Over time, those players that 'have it all and can do it all' will have their numbers dwindle. The basic camo benefits (Detectability -3% and Enemy Dispersion +4%) can be gotten for 22.5k credits per game by ANYONE. And that is the camo that actually makes the difference in the game when fighting other ships. For all the modules: Save first, get the ship and the modules, THEN play the ship in Randoms or Ranked. If you do not have the credits, you might simply not be good enough to advance to that Tier. AGAIN: The ONLY signal taken out so far is the Port Cost Credit Reduction. NONE of the signals getting Commander XP, General XP or the likes have so far been taken out. So the new situation. With regard to the bolded: NOTHING has changed between the old and the new situation. The difference between Commanders (few vs 21-points) is identical as to what it has been since the Commander Rework. Camos do not make a difference. Frankly, as soon as you can get modules on ships and can put camos on ships, there is NO excuse at all to play the ships in Randoms, Ranked, Operations or even Co-op without modules and camo's mounted (especially T5 and above). You have to be really unlucky, atrociously bad, or just completely unlucky to NOT make a profit, even without Premium Time. Flags make some difference, but the differences are such that they will probably would not matter in 95% of the Randoms games out there, with - perhaps - the sole exception of Detonation Flags. The signals DO make a difference in Ranked and high level competitive though. -

Dutchy_2019 replied to Divertribe's topic in General Discussion
The economic flags have been removed from the game completely - you cannot get them anymore anyway. WHY actually buy ANY flags and signals from the Premium Shop? Personally I think it is a VERY good thing that WG is trying to tackle the credit inflation. Of course, for some people that comes way too late (people sitting on 1 billion credits or more). But in general, reducing net credit earnings might help slow down players progressing up the tiers, as people end up playing too high up too fast, making the overall game experience worse for everyone (and therefore being long term unhealthy for the game). -

The way I see it, as an individual slowly improving his own game (dragging myself up from a 43% WinRate to now barely above 50%). I have also taken the liberty to look up your stats on WoWs-numbers. A whole lot of VERY good advice has already been given. My own Two Eurocents: Find some nice streams and streamers to watch. Personally, I have come across a number of nice streams / streamers who are decent to very good at the game. Most of them are also very willing to help you out, and work with ship requests (some rarely play low tiers, which would be applicable to you), but you can still learn. Even when just watching, you can often learn from how they play their ships. Some streamers do Replay Analysis, or in-game-talk-throughs (two I like are on NA though). Play across nations and classes (except for CV) You have only played Japanese and American ships. IMHO that is a mistake, especially with the massive amount of ships currently available. Play ALL nations (or at least like 6 or 8 of them), and then BB, Cruiser and DD. Not only does this expose you to different ships that have different strengths and weaknesses (and therefore different playstyles), it also has you playing low tier for longer (which in many ways is a good thing, as it allows you to learn the game). Arguably leave CVs alone for a while. Set limited goals Set limited and achievable goals for yourself - like: do more damage than your ship HP to the enemy. Only advance up the lines when you consistently / regularly rank in the top 4 or top 6 of your team. Make it easy on yourself INVEST IN CAMOS (if you have none, get the 22.5k camos every game). Make sure all your captains in T5 ships and above are 10 points minimum. In T5 and above, you just need either concealment (cruisers and DDs) or Fire Prevention (BBs), and you need a 10 pt captain to get there. Use some viable captain builds for starters (I like these, put together by people from the HELP ME Discord): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1XfsIIbyORQAxgOE-ao_nVSP8_fpa1igg0t48pXZFIu0/edit#heading=h.2imbym3ly4b1 ). To get there: Pick a T4 ship you like of a given nation. Play that ship with a captain until you have the captain at 10 points (you can buy 6 pt captains for credits, so you only need to grind the last 4 points). Assign that new 10 pt captain to the Tech Tree ship you like Retrain that captain for that ship using either Elite Commander XP, or by retraining it in a low tier Premium (T5 through T6). Personally I would opt for retraining through a premium if possible. You can get premiums through the armory (with coal). You can get coal from containers - arguably ALWAYS choose MORE RESOURCES container. Low and mid-tier premiums you can get for captain retraining for coal: T4 IJN Yubari ; T5 Kirov and Oktyabrskaya Revolutsia (USSR) ; T5 Hill and Marblehead (US) ; T3 Campbelltown or T6 Gallant (UK) ; T6 Aigle (France) ; T6 Anshan (Pan-Asia) ; Or save doubloons you have earned in game, and get low or mid-tier premiums from other nations In general though, you can always ask questions in chat! Do so. -
