    German Battleships in the Armory

Happy to have acquired the T6 Mackensen yesterday evening with tokens which I THINK... is about the limit this event stretches too in regards obtaining ships for tokens but I could be wrong. The next package for tokens is a perma-cam instead of a ship, and THEN a ship, but I highly doubt there will be an additional 1150 tokens to be had before this event ends Mackensen btw? Sounds more Scottish than German... o well lol. "Do ya know ma weeeee mate Angus Mac Kensen?" Anyway, nice to have got hold of the T6 which is more than I thought I'd get and will undoubtedly play plenty of in Scenario battles whenever they return and be that much closer to the higher tier ships in the line whenever they get released into the tech tree.

    What keeps you playing WoWS?

What keeps me playing? It's free. Thank you and good night! badumcha! Apart from that, I mainly play Co-op and Scenario's and those are a nice way to do a bit of online gaming in a more relaxed way when a bit tired after work etc. The graphics are delicious and even though I've tried all classes and played many, commanding a big capital ship into battle and letting those huge guns loose on some target ship is very satisfying. Speaking of which, I find BB's to very playable in random battles. Problem classes like CV's and Subs have not been much of a problem at all when I play BB's. Sure, I've been targeted by them occasionally but there's the reality, "occasionally", certainly not often and by contrast I've sent far more CV's and subs to the bottom of the ocean.

    Twilight Hunt

Thanks. Hopefully I'll have enough free time to get in a few more battles. Any inside info on how to attack Rasputin effectively, i.e. is there some 5 second window in which it's safe to attack or extra vulnerable, or attacking from the side or rear etc(basing that on other vid games boss fights lol)

    Twilight Hunt

No, I haven't played more than just a couple of battles and it was just me racing around blasting away at other players until I got sunk towards the end of the battle lol. Didn't notice Rasputin and not sure what the objective even was even though I glanced through the portal page where it said something about collecting experience points during battle, teaming up with other players and then dropping those experience points off somewhere... but damned if I noticed where that drop off was or Rasputin lol. I wouldn't really have much more than an hour to play WoWS in the evening and most of that time goes into the new German BB line in the Armory grinding tokens so just not enough time to go around to all the different modes.

    Twilight Hunt

10/10 for effort, the fantastical visuals, ship monster thingy's that are living and breathing lol and a really fun theme. I can see there was a lot of work put into this and I'm all for seasonal events like this, would be a shame to have nothing imho so it's much appreciated and long may they continue. That said, as a friendly criticism, it gets old really fast and collapses into what others have already outlined, as very grindy for the rewards on offer and that sadly quickly glosses over the fun theme and personally I had enough after just a few battles.

    Submarines in Random Battles

I'm not bashing or promoting subs, I just don't care to play them. As such, if it's not too much trouble can devs please add a "disable" option for getting these sub rentals. If and when there's some permanent submarine tech tree in place, then maybe I'll take a look at them but as it stands, I'm not any more or less tempted to play subs again no matter what spin you devs put on it and these notifications that I've unlocked subs or had more subs added or removed or more commanders added etc... I just don't care and it's actually a little bit annoying so I'd really appreciate a disable option for those sub rentals thanks.

    German Battleships in the Armory

Why on earth did you sell all your tech tree ships? That makes no sense to me. Sure, you might not play them but you 100% know that there's lots of missions that require some very specific requirements, this is nothing new. The ships you love and play most often, just mark them as "set as favorite" or whatever it's called and basically ignore the rest until whenever a mission requires them. It's a F2P game and the devs always change and set these missions to encourage players towards needing all the classes of ships and from all nations along with steering players towards playing higher tiers and PvP modes. You can't really blame them for that, everything you are playing for is free and if nobody was tempted to open their wallets, the business and game goes under. The "World of...." series, gameplay and balanced not withstanding, is actually very generous. I've played other F2P games where without a premium account you'd be restricted to T4 or T5, would only have access to some equipment slots and only some commander skills or a usably skill points cap etc. Yet in this game we can have all the ships, all the tiers and access to all the equipment and commander skills. So it ain't the worst, again, balance and gameplay not withstanding lol. Besides, you can get a lot of German tokens with the just the same ship if you play PvP mode for a bit. So you can actually get most if not all of those tokens which are capped anyway, from just playing your most favorite ships most likely. Unless your most favorite ships all happen to be of the same nation and class lol! Then, ya, I won't lie, it's not going to go far in this new German BB free ships grind.

[UPDATE] Do any of these lines that I am grinding get better?

Co-op is a great outlet for simply chilling and shooting some ships in a relaxed environment when a bit tired from work or simply not in the mood to take on anything more challenging at that time so I do like Co-op in that regards. Plus of course, it's great for completing missions that might otherwise prove much longer to complete via random battles etc, such as main battery hits, kill counts, capping, defending caps etc, all of that. Unfortunately for grinding, especially higher tier grinding, it kinda sucks balls tbh. XP, crew XP, free XP, credits it all takes a notable hit compared to playing randoms or other PvP modes. Sure, you can use xp and credit buffing signals in co-op but when you think of how much more you would have got playing randoms with those same signals it seems very wasteful. Also when it comes to DD play and even some other classes, I've found randoms to be far more rewarding. The problem with Co-op is that the enemy bots are dialed into the bloody Matrix which means they know exactly where you are at all times, they know when they're being targeted, where your torps are and react in ways that generally most human players never will, both good ways and bad ways. When playing a DD they already know where you are and follow you even though you were never detected. They know where your torps are and start to evade them long before the actual detection range plus when they launch torps at you they're the most pixel perfect spread you'll ever see, almost unavoidable no matter what you do lol and when you play a cruiser and BB, have the broadside of a bot ship, they instantly reacted and point bow on at you. This means that when they sail onto your torps and give you their broadside that's also purposefully done, all of which feels unsatisfying and unrewarding. Fine, it's ok for chilling but I'd recommend that just like me recently, you dip your toe in random battles too. I don't play randoms as every battle, but for getting bonuses and such, it's just way better and then I mix it up after that depending on my mood. In regards the ships you've mentioned the only one of those I bothered with in a meaningful way would be the EU DD's and those are indeed fun in ANY game mode, less so for Co-op for reasons stated "The Matrix!" but I'm sure you play Scenarios too? The Vasteras on Aegis is just one of the most fun non-PvP mode DD maps there is. I've found the Skane to be an interesting play on Narai but not as much fun as a BB so rarely gets a run yet it's really good fun in randoms even for T7 MM. I'm grinding through the T8 Oland at the moment. Again it's a fun a DD at least in randoms with those fast EU torpedo speeds and fast torp reload time but I play it more as a passive torpedo boat tbh just because that's what I enjoy doing with DD's. That said, if you're unchanged about staying playing Co-op indefinitely then you're not missing out on anything much tbh.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?

Still going with the random battles. They're not bad to play so far tbh but then again it's all new to me so I would say that and lack the experience to tell the difference to if its better or worse than before. Got the next German achievement thingy for 25 wins in the top 3. It took 47 battles though so the next one will take some time to get. Typical WG logic though. It takes 15 wins in top 3 to get the first achievement yet only 10 more to get the second achievement which is 5 less or 33%. Shouldn't that second achievement be at least 15 too or possible 20 when you consider that it needs to be 50 for the 3rd and 100 for the 4th and final achievement? Still on the way towards that T8 battleship achievement too. Stats for the Bismarck so far. Take a look at the 9 ship kills to secondary guns though. They're not just fun but actually worthwhile and effective. I thought secondaries were more for meme's and just for that satisfying visual of all those guns popping away at an enemy ship and as you guys know for every 1 ship killed there was 2-3 times that number that were almost killed so 9 kills to secondaries in 47 battles means there was probably 20-27 ships nearly killed off by them too were it not for my mains or some teammate finishing that enemy ship.
  11. Hi guys, Just putting this question out there while I still have a few days left of skill resetting. Why 18 points and not 15 or 21? Simply, because that's what both Commanders currently have lol... also I guess 17/18 skill points is fairly attainable with some free premium time and signals when played in the well rewarded random battles and other forms PvP game modes featuring decent amounts of ships like ranked. Right then. To focus in a little more specifically, I'm only talking T8 and upward, not anything lower tier because I'm not really playing there. Currently running with the Kagero and Oland. They're interesting styles that differ from each other in their guns, detection, torpedo characteristics, consumable options such as the IJN's torpedo reload booster compared to the Eurpean's repair party and Defensive AA fire so just go about their business differently. So I'm guessing the first 10 points is a shared thing such as 1. Preventative Maintenance(I go with incoming fire alert because noob but shhhhh, lets ignore that)) 2. Last Stand because you need to have control of your destroyer at all times 3. Survivability Expert because its a DD with the smallest HP pool and every extra bit helps, higher the tier, more you get, and we're higher tier lol. 4 Concealment Expert.... because. Right, so that's 10 skill points used. Where do the next 8 go? Currently I see good value in using 3 for Adrenaline Rush because DD's lose a lot of health pretty quickly. The Europeans can gain some of that back which makes this skill interesting because using a repair party effectively will effectively nerf the gains you make with AR... interesting. The IJN is more of a torpedo based DD and do play them for that sneaky bar steward playsytle and as such I'm very tempted to put 3 skill points into Fill the Tubes for a -10% reload time which I'm assuming will combine with any gains made by the AR skill for possibly as much as -26% reload times... nice right? The European torps aren't big bangers but they are incredibly fast so for those DD's I played around with Swift Fish for +5% torp speed which combines with the torpedo equipment to create some pretty rocket like torps lol! Detection is the same but when they're coming at that speed, wow, some sight to behold. Also I tried the Swift In Silence Skill on the European DD for 4 points and that was actually fun. It was like having a perma Engine booster so long as I remained unspotted and allowed me to scoot about the map that bit faster, even more faster when working with the engine booster consumable itself. Great fun to have a DD that fast with torpedoes that fast lol... but I kinda felt like it was a waste of 4 skill points. Anyway, enough with the walls of texts. Where would you DD junkies place 18 skill points on these two higher tier nations?

Best Use of 18 Skill Points on IJN and EU DD's

Thanks. I'm going to go with it so. Certainly I enjoyed it's benefits in the couple of battles I played with it yesterday but it's not a very big sample size obviously, the time to reset commander skills for free is fast running out and I just want to make sure I'm not shooting myself in the foot because once I set these skills, they're going to stay that way for a very long time.
  13. Hi guys. What the F am I talking about? lol. Ok, I'm only recently back playing this game and my first regular involvement in Random Battles. Here's my finding's as a noob in regards Radar ships and I do have a few radar cruisers myself so my suggestion is at least coming with a little experience, not much, but not blindly talking about something I don't know either. Also, it takes some experience to know both how and when to best use radar, it's certainly not just braindead about the map permanently exposing ships lol. Rather than babble on, my suggestion is nothing more based on radar sweeps itself. In this game, when you use radar, the target is fully exposed and remains so, just like is you spotted him with line of sight. This is not radar however and tbh, it's a little unfair, regardless of the experience needed to make the best use of radar. What I am suggesting, is to still show the target, BUT, only like a radar would, intermittently in sweeps so that the target has brief moments of invisibility to at least throw some shots wide from enemy guns and give that target a little bit of a fair chance to try and maneuver aggressively so that those little blind moments where the enemy can't see you will result in a few missed shots, not just sit there in full view permanently for so long as the radar is active like we currently have. What do you guys think? It's nothing more than how radar operates or at least operated at the time. This is just an example of how radar shows a target in sweeps. As you can see, it doesn't permanently show the target.
  14. If you guys wanted to spill over onto how a vulnerable front line class like a DD should be shown when spotted by a CV, that's all good too. I think most of us have played a DD and while we can use islands and stay with a decent AA ship, ultimately for trying anything else a CV can spot us and perma-spot us so it's regressive to positive gameplay and ultimately doing what a DD is supposed to be doing most of the time. The CV need not even attack us, just keeping us under a giant spotlight is more than enough and most DD's can't do a thing about it can they? So what's a balanced solution to this that both keeps a CV having the ability to rightfully spot all classes of ships and defend itself in a 1 vs 1 with a DD yet not totally shut down and perma spot a DD? Well, one idea would be to limit the maximum exposure time a CV can perma-spot a DD. So with that a CV can perma-spot a DD for a maximum of 30 seconds(just a ballpark figure) and then he physically CANNOT spot that same DD again for at least 2 minutes(again, ballpark figure). Would that keep things fair so that the CV can still spot and defend himself yet give a DD player a fighting chance and ability, the motivation and belief to press forwards and try spot enemy ships and cap etc?
  15. Absolutely. The thing is, I'm not against any of these things as such and even this thread was just a suggestion towards making spotting mechanics of various gimmicks viable, an included part of this game but just tweaking it to be a little fairer for the risk involved and gameplay balance, battle development etc. If we couldn't spot DD's, the game would be unplayable let's be real about that lol. Could just ghost around torpedoing everything and anything BUT, and maybe it's just my opinion, there's something wrong and unbalanced about the spotting capabilities of some sources in this game that just holds back the development and flow of what could be a really great and exciting battle, and while the worst is probably CV spotting, no particular one is game breaking but it's when you combine so many together in one battle they become really regressive to battle development and ultimately "fun" which is why any of us play right? See, I wouldn't mind if an enemy player or several enemy players set a trap for a ship to walk onto and ambush. Maybe that worked that time, maybe the next time the ambusher gets baited into an even bigger counter ambush and they all get flattened lol. For me, having some level of concealment and secrecy like that adds to the fun and heightens our awareness and excitement at what might be around the next corner, makes us better players overall because we need to think more and try new things because we are in a position to dare to try without instantly getting spotted and having to bail, default back to a more conservative playstyle. But if we have the ability, such a CV, to just swish down the map and show everyone, it kills the moment and makes classes like DD's and even cruisers have to bail on what they were going to do and sometimes for almost the entire battle if they're kept perma-spotted or spotted enough that they're either killed or wrecked beyond ever being a factor there after. Same with radar to a lesser extent and while we can counter it and personally I don't mind it too much, equally it shuts down a cap and 20+km(10km each side of the cruiser, all directions) section of map and some maps are rather small for that tbh. That's why I was suggesting more of a sweeping show of a target rather than being shown perfectly as though you're physically looking at the ship because that's not what's happening. Missed shots? wonky aiming mechanics? Perfect, that's the point, to give the radar highlighted ship half a chance to actually escape instead of being flattened in open waters. As it is now, it's just a case of sailing up tight behind one of those cap perimeter islands, waiting for the cap to start to turn red, and then pop the radar and laugh as the enemy ship is caught with his knickers down lol. Fine, and I do like that BUT, when you combine radar with CV's and the fact there's also an equal amount of DD's trying to do what you might be trying to do with a DD, the margin for error is almost zero, and with CV's, the DD player didn't even make an error unless you actually consider playing positively an error instead of sitting behind his team doing nothing.
  16. I was using a Bismarck and he was doing a pretty good job to keep me from spotting him, never shooting his guns and only periodically slipping some torps back at me which revealed his position just briefly until he opened the gap again. Then after about 4 minutes I decided to send both flights of sub killers in his direction and true enough, there he was. Coincidental? That's entirely possible. It's just one example so hardly anything to suggest it was what actually spotted him. Thing is though, in that encounter, it was just me and him somewhat isolated from the rest of my team and he was the last remaining enemy ship. Another such case that was way less clear was when there was 2 enemy cruisers, a DD and sub hiding at the other side of an island that had gone invisible so again I sent my flights of sub-killers "over the wall" and they were spotted lol. Now, in that instance I thought nothing too much about it because I was with a lot of teammates so maybe a DD on my team sneaked around the side and I just didn't notice so I payed no attention to that and just assumed that was the case. Still, in both cases the enemy was spotted at the exact moment their AA guns started shooting at my aircraft. Also, when I play a DD it does seem that I got spotted on several occasions by these aircraft. Was it something else that coincidentally spotted me? Maybe, damned if I know what it was because there wasn't any enemy ships that close and my Kagero has 5.4 km concealment so it would want to be a pretty damn good camo rating for me not to see him too lol.

Best Use of 18 Skill Points on IJN and EU DD's

Some contrasting opinions here lol... So, is that a green light on the RL skill or it's not worth it? It's 4 skill points which is a lot but if you guys overall think it's way more beneficial than not then I'm happy to invest in it. Do you think players with enemy ships need to be relatively experienced to understand they are being highlighted by RL and what sort of percentage of the playerbase do you actually think are capable of understanding this and reacting to it meaningfully? I see in some threads complaints and jokes about how bad players on this game so, maybe RL it's more beneficial than bad because the average player is not really all that good or this is not true?
  18. I find CV's spotting aircraft pretty much do that anyway. Just a quick fly-by across the front of the enemies side of the map and all the secrets of enemy positions and headings are exposed. Even if you don't always spot every single enemy ship it's often easy to dial in on where they are and most likely heading as they noobishly pop fighter squadrons or pop smokes or fail to purposefully disable their AA guns. Obviously as a CV player spotting you are trying to avoid circling fighters and AA but that's ok, the intel gathered is more than enough and it's clear where most everyone on the enemy team is and where they're going. A really cheap and skill gimping source imho, since it removes the covert side of battles whereby teams must "guess" and formulate an attack direction for the main fleet of BB's and the DD players can try and spot "the old fashioned way" by line of sight at sea level, having to sail close and around solid objects. Oh well. Also, I was chasing a cruiser in a battle yesterday with my Bismarck. He had the speed and concealment to just about escape my spotting capability and keep me at range periodically. So what I did was I send a couple of flights of my anti-sub aircraft as far as I could in his direction and true enough, the bloody things spotted him lol!! really? Now isn't that just a little too much? It's one thing killing subs but to actively spot for me too? Pfffff... I don't know it didn't seem fair but maybe I just need to get used to it and accept it as another strategy that we can all implement. What do you guys think about anti-sub aircraft having this ability to actively spot too?
  19. You see the problem with large cruisers sitting in smoke is...

Best Use of 18 Skill Points on IJN and EU DD's

Interesting. Thanks. But that being said, most players would feel the pro's of the RL skill outweigh the cons? I tried it in a battle just now on both DD's. The Kagero battle ended badly but was just a complete horror show of team imbalance ROFL stomp so that was hardly much insight and the second battle featuring my Oland, was a much longer and typical battle, a far better testbed and that RL skill was really nice for several important moments such as... 1. A DD popped a smoke and I was able to hone in and hit him with a couple of torps but because they're European it probably only removed 5% health instead of killing him had they been Japanese death torps. I jest, he was in a bad way, not dead, but in no condition to get ballsy and try a gun fight there after. 2. I was given an "early alert" when the RL switched from that DD to an unseen target on the left of me which from that range and not spotted could only have been the other enemy DD in the battle, so I was able to react and leave instead of being spotted and possibly killed in a 2 vs 1 and probably 3 vs 1 with an enemy cruiser not too far away while I only had a couple of BB's drooling about aimlessly behind me for support lol. So that was really nice too. 3. An enemy Scharnhorst had made an aggressive push some time later after my BB's and most the team had all relocated to the other side of the map but I THINK he knew that I was on his case, and not because I was spamming torps at him, I was actually trying to get the perfect most broadside line of his BB but he seemed to keep reacting and chase me even though I wasn't seen. Because my Oland isn't really fast and he was flank speed, I was actually spotted at 5.8 km once so he was doing a pretty good job at keeping me on my toes regardless of me feinting an untrue direction while spotted etc. Anyway he was eventually picked off with a wall of European torps and floods finished him off but still, perhaps that RL notification kept his interest, perhaps not. Hard to know, maybe I'll ask him if it's not too late. 4. My team were now in total control but there was an enemy DD left if I didn't have RL there was literally no way I would have guessed that he went where he did, was a nice move on his part but thanks to the RL skill, I could simply straight line that sat-nav on my DD lol.

How does the RL skill make it really is for a target to tell if you're near?
  22. Hi guys, This code worked for me just now when I stumbled across it as I was checking out some article in the WoWS portal. It says for 6 gift crates. Ignore if it's old news. PRESENTFROMNEMO
  23. It's only a case of showing the ship and then not showing the ship in pretty much 2 second intervals. That's the short and simple version. How would having a ship shown for 2 seconds and then remain invisible for 2 seconds for the normal radar duration be complicated or hard to understand? It's practically the exact same thing as now just with broken exposure intervals.
  24. Sir_Sinksalot

Did Everyone Get This Code Already?

Ah, thanks. That's probably all it is and I most likely already got those crates too.
