Greetings everyone, I'm a 32 years old lawyer and a Wows players since 2019. So far I played mostly solo, although I have been in other clans, usually Italians. Now I really would like to find a good international clan to find new players, play in division and possibly for CW for the next season. I have roughly 15-20 Tier X ships and I am mostly DD oriented atm, although I played consistently all three mains classes (thus including cruisers and battleships, no CV or subs) For your information, main stats: Battles: around 7.5K Win rate: 54.2% PR: 1751 (and a solid "unicum" in the last months I think) avrg Damage: around 84K avrg Exp: over 2K Please write here or PM if interested, I usually play in the evening / late evening quite actively. In these next two weeks I might be less active due to marriage final preparations. Thank you in advance! AlphaBaboon

Thank you everyone for your offers to join! I finally made my decision a couple of days ago and found a clan. Cheers -
CONDE' : why bothering farming steel ??
AlphaBaboon replied to Alfa_Tau's topic in General Discussion
I think Satsuma is a beast without equal, and makes Shikishima mostly useless for its cost. Actually All Superships will make irrelevant their predecessor tier X- 42 replies

CONDE' : why bothering farming steel ??
AlphaBaboon replied to Alfa_Tau's topic in General Discussion
I didn't find superships OP at all. As a dd main I find bb superships a free farming point. They are so gigantic and massive that you can't really miss and I rarely saw an Hannover pushing and get out alive. In this meta they just cant. Conde might be the only exception for cruisers, but being a super Henry it still retains its main weakness. So she can explode very easily if miss played. Zorky is a Khaba with legendary mod basically with its special mimic of firing more salvos at a time but it's situational. If you have a khaba with legendary don't bother taking. Yamagiri is quite interesting, as a super shima with the choice of torpedos in the same battle (12 or 20 km). It's really fun. But mostly I still believe the real Tier XI remains CV.- 42 replies

Are Superships A Big Mistake Or Saving a Potentially Struggling "Dying"Game?
AlphaBaboon replied to Sir_Sinksalot's topic in General Discussion
In all honesty, when I played superships in last ranked season I noted that I didn't particularly influence the course of the battle, compared to other typical tier 10 ships, overall dds (played Ragnar, Druid, Marceau mostly) but also Petro and other disgustingly broken ships. I often made more damage but they usually didn't make me win the match carrying it. Perhaps because I was not used to such new ships and didn't know how to use them properly compared to others. I surely did not get into gold league with superships. If you are potato you will remain potato also with superships. In good hands they are a good asset but atm not OP and as a tier X you don't feel like you cannot "belong" to a "tier 11" match. I think overall they are a good add to the game. They are surely stronger than tier 10 but not so game-breaking as CVs or the (original) submarines. -

In this ranked season I was a fart away from reaching Rank 4, then, due to an unfortunate set of circumstances, I got bank to rank 7. And I'm really SICK AND TIRED of the current ranked system. But this post is not about such issue, but rather on another strictly related. I'd like to know if it's possible to grind steel out of the ranked system. Following certain battles (and I'm quite confident it's also random battles) I sometimes receive as reward 20 steel, other times "1" (yes, ONE) steel. Might also be receiving coal for around 200. Is that for having completed specific missions? I think it might be, but not always. Something else? Any thoughts? Thank you in advance

This entire ranked season can be summerized in two words: CV and MASSACHUSSET. The Massa is definitely OP, and this is by no means no news, but it's not the first and wont be the last OP ship in a ranked scenario. So it is fairly acceptable. But CV... CV is all in another world, and abslolutely breaks any scheme or tactic a team could hope to put in place. Overall for DDs it's a real pain in the [edited]. With my akizuki which has fairly good AA I got assassinated countless of times when heavily focused, and most of the times I was escorted by a cruiser for further AA support. You definitely have no counter measure to cope with it, but I don't think CVs are to be blamed for the fact, but rather the absolutely PITIFUL current AA mechanics, which are unsufficient to really pose a threat to CV player. Furthermore, you can put down dozens for planes and the CV isn't really affected by the losses. Don't kick CVs, improve AA and make it efficient or/and make plane losses a real THING for CVs.

Can't stop looking at the gorgeous WG announcer Dasha Perova. Everytime they release an update I can't really focus on the content of the video. I just see HER! If Dasha Perova were a ship, what ship would she be? Ok, she is Russian and definitely high tier! Maximum quality! then she is soft, tender, smooth, velvety, young (pretty squishy I'd say) but with absolute good fire power, and she can dev strike you at your broadside with no problem whatsoever. She is more for armor piercing shells I believe, but when she shoots HE she will definitely start fire in you. I believe she could be an Alexander Nevsky.

It might be only an impression, but when I play randoms I see at the end of the game many players with rank between 5 or 1 ending up around mid of the scoreboard, with mediocre results. Ok this is not always the case, but I saw it more than 50% of the time perhaps, and this rise a question? Grinding ranks in ranked is bloody hard beyond rank 10, it requires several winning streaks and trying to keep the star when you lose. You should be a very very good player to reach such results (and a bit lucky also) I consider myself a player (at least slightly) over the average, with a good exp base. However, I kinda gave up at rank 9. I found no worthy my time getting and losing stars everytime. Now the question: is it possible that many top ranked players are very good in the tactics that lead them to victory in ranked battles, but do not excel in randoms? How would this be explainable?

Top ranked battle players sucking at random?
AlphaBaboon replied to AlphaBaboon's topic in General Discussion
It's kinda amusing to see people dying in the first 3 minutes of the game, then their team manage to win and they gain the star anyway, with almost zero contribution. Unfortunately I've never been that kind of lucky guy. Btw I noted that to save my star also capturing areas with dds may grant you several exp points, although damage farming might be the best way -
Top ranked battle players sucking at random?
AlphaBaboon replied to AlphaBaboon's topic in General Discussion
This would also explain why not all Stalingrads are played by good players (to get Stalingrad you need tons of steel which is mostly farmed in ranked). However, I'm not absolutely sure getting to high ranks only requires persistence. There must be something that makes me suck in ranked, while in randoms I usually perform quite well. -
I still don't understand how I can get the Odin from the port, in the armory or elsewhere

I bet most of players who have a good exp base, damage output, etc. (you can check em on your stats) will have also (even slightly) better W/L ratio. Im stuck around 55,5% W/L ratio since much time, then I bet this is what I will end up being also in the following months of game play. I may get around 55 or 56, even 54 or 57 (!), what would it change? Do I really need a 60% wins? Would this make me a better player? Not really in random matches, with 12 vs 12 ships while I can carry only one. My ability to change the course of the match puts me around 5% over a mere 50 / 50 change of winning (which would be totally random). Besides, when I look at a player's stats I care much more of damage outbase and base exp or death / kills ratio, whatever... You cannot compete generally with people always playing on division. Most of the times they'll end up having better W/L. I have also wonderful games on losing streaks. I know I will have also winning streaks. Otherwise I would not explain my 55,5% W/L being roughly the same for much time.
-
I meant no offence, in any case I see you have 53,5% of W/L ratio which is sufficiently solid. I'm sure you also have very good days to counterbalance this issue

Best Tier VIII choice for ranked in 0.9.6?
AlphaBaboon replied to luokailk's topic in General Discussion
the answer is always the same for every post like this: the one you are more confortable with. What I would pick? BISMARCK (or Tirpitz), LENIN, VLADI, MEINZ, AKIZUKI would be on the top -
the syndrome of "it's always my mates' fault" will always bring you to more losing. Not because of ill-luck or fate, but because if you feel you are in a group of potatos you will start behaving like a potato. Play at your best, communicate with team mates, coordinate your attacks, just think they are exactly like you and stop bothering to check anyone's stats. I'm sure this way you will improve your W/L ratio. If you see people with 70% wins, it means they basically always play in a division with experienced players. If you solo you will never get that ratio (maybe only in your first 200 battles at best). I have a bit more than 55% wins and I'm quite happy with that. I care more about average exp points gained, damage done and other factors that are more indicative of your general performance in my opinion
-
No offense, but you should ask yourself if you are ready for her. I realy liked the ship. It litterally annihilates cruisers (also angled) and does tons of damage also to bb. mobility isn't really awesome, and your armor really works when proprerly angled. Just know that bow tanking at mid range will be far preferable than giving too much broadside. If you are still the kind who gives too much of it) you'd better get a Tirpitz, which is more forgiving on this regard. Consider also that torps might be a serious problem. That being said, the guns would be your bread and butter btw and that 360° turret mobility is a blessing that almost no bb in the game has

Getting frustrated after about a week and a half playing
AlphaBaboon replied to xZExPISCOx's topic in General Discussion
It's just a matter of practice, you are not supposed to play well in tier 8 games (or even up-tiered with t10!) after a week only of game play. You still need to learn a lot of mechanics. This game is not like just shooting randomly even broadsided ships. There is pen, overpen, angles, shell speed, arc, pen values etc., and this is just for the hitting part. Then you need to know not only your ship but also those you are facing (at least the basics). I believe it is mandatory for you to begin a new line (a destroyer or a cruiser line I'd suggest) and stick a bit more in lower tiers. You will find this game extremely fun when you know what to do. And trust me, there will always be something new to learn -
Khaba is meant for gunboating and her torps are just for defensive situations. I might agree that 8km would be better but 10 is too much anyway for her gameplay role. I'd rather work on her concealment, which is notoriously disgusting. Since you cannot cap and you basically turn into a light cruiser, which is fair, but arguable anyway. Also HE pen might be an issue. Anyway I heard news that WG is working on a new IFHE which could change everything

Hello captains, I'm pretty sure many of you are suffering the same feeling in these last days of ranked season. In randoms I have an average around 56 - 57 % of win/loss ratio, which is not bad, and I think I perfom a bit better than the average player and today I play mostly t10 matches, with decent kill, damage output and exp.. For unknown reasons (at least unknown to me) I really cant manage dealing with ranked battles, and Im stuck since many days with (more than 100 battles) at the same level (10) in ranked. I started at level 14 or 13 I think, probably due to my previous rank in the last t9 seasons (but I'm not sure) I use mostly Conqueror and Smolensk for this season (which should be quite good for competitives) and in the last 2 days also Yamato, which I just unlocked and bought (full modules, full everything). I'm not one of those potatos who die in the first minutes of the game or ignoring the objectives and some bacis tactics of the game. Howevere, here I am... win loss win loss win loss loss ... and Im started to get sick and tired of this. When I win I often get as first as exp in my team (whis is useless...), and when I lose I very rarely save the star. This combination alone is hilarious enough. I dont have many battles at my back (1500 in total or similar), so maybe I'm lacking game experience and something to perform better in ranked to get out victorious from games. For those who have achieved a respectable rank in this season, what is the [edited]trick? Which god to do you pray? Do you make human sacrifice or cattle is enough? Do I need to trust humankind and so my team so that Luck will favor me one day? Or simply I have to admit you are all better than me in ranked for some reason, if yes, would you tell me what is it? Thank you very much in advance Eiric

Absolutely agree. Overall "the Ugly" part. I never thought it in this way, but in fact there are not just 30 years old guys like me playing the game, but also teens and perhaps even younger. U cant let them play the greedy lootboxes... this is insane, its worse the the roulette. For the worst part of all the game, I believe this is the Ranked system but also the current high tier meta, where WG had pushed non-sense fire spitters with machine-gun RoF, without adjusting the HE pen system or IFHE. Ships like these can be used by monkeys as well, no real great skill required, but it's ok, cannot question it. However, just make this kind of ships in a way people who play them can adjust their expectation, because monkeys should not be meant to deal 200k damage and think this is absolutely OK.

Are you going to grind the Puerto Rico?
AlphaBaboon replied to Miscommunication_dept's topic in General Discussion
Not even a fun of American cruisers, so least of all I'd spend time and overall (TO MUCH!) money for it -
So it's problem solved?
-
Also here as in many other cases, it depends on what ship (cruiser here) you playing with. Taking t10 as reference, if you play with a Zao or a Henry you have all interest in staying at maximum range, so very close to your battleships, if you are a minotaur, a de moines or a smolensk etc. you are going to be much more punishing closing you distance, finding cover behind an island or in smoke, supporting your dds in caps at a closer range. In reality everyone should support anyone in the team at a gun reach zone, the difference is just how you do it, since there are ships which may become total garbage at close range. There are even battleships that can play at medium-close range, see for instance the GK or the Kremlin, but a Yamato is very unlikely will never do so, jst at the end of the match usually
