The trick is not to play the super BBs in the super BB mode. Just play a DD; fight the other DDs, and if you win, you get to farm the giant, lumbering HP pinatas. I played a fewmatches as radar mino with divved up Shima smoke dispenser/spotter. Much fun was had (by us at least).

Just tested the new gamemode; picked the Satsuma for the batte. It was a Yamato, only slightly Yamato-er. The only good thing about it was that it had the Shikishima gun sound, which was delicious. As for the battle itself... 1 CV, 4 BBs (most of which were super-BBs), and 4 dds per side. No cruisers. The numbers in the queue furthermore reflect this. The match was, as person playing a BB, absolute shait. The CV and the DDs banded together to farm the BBs, and the DDs ran rampant without any radar cruisers to check them. Our CV was a FDR, who of course concentrated on farming rather than spotting/attacking DDs. It was like looking through a window into the future of WOWS, where deadeye never got removed. Hell, we might still end up there anyway :). Will not be playing a BB in this gamemode again if I can help it. I just wish it was T8-11 so I could bring my Asashio :/. (btw just on first impressions the Hannover seems a lot better; it has some pretty nasty armor, and the secondaries are wacko)

Super battleships and the future of WOWS
arttuperkunas replied to arttuperkunas's topic in General Discussion
Uh... okay? I mean I'm sure I'm some weird substitute in your mind for a generic BB player, but in fact I play both BBs and DDs, and mostly these days I play DDs at higher tiers. When the enemy has a CV that farms our DDs (as they did), and our CV concentrates on farming (unsuccesfully) BBs, then we're going to lose the game. Most of us, at least ppl on the forum, care more about winning matches than getting credits. We select targets depending on what wins games, not what nets credits or XP - unless the match is already lost. -
Super battleships and the future of WOWS

I dunno, I find playing a BB in high tier to be excruciating - the real fight happens between the DDs and radar cruisers, and if your team loses that fight, it's gg; torp soup spam and zero vision on the enemy. That's why I pretty much only play high tier DDs now, unless I can get a div mate to play a DD. -

Furthermore, the proportion of Shimakazes was even higher than the usual T10 torpsoup MM. -

Super battleships and the future of WOWS

This implies that T10 carriers are not already "super". Maybe the super carriers will launch "smaller" carriers like FDRs from their flight deck. WG nothing to see here. Alternatively, gib check in mail when implemented plz -
Super battleships and the future of WOWS

I make no claims either way, the above was just a "review" from a disinterested observer. I went in with essentially no expectations, and the above was what I found. -

Yes, as my OP implied, this was entirely predictable based on the deadeye debacle. -

Battle rewards seemed to be normal randoms, which is good - there's a lot of potatoes playing the gamemode so it's easy to rack up pretty big scores. There are also some combat missions and stuff that give rewards specifically for this gamemode. -
While I agree with this, and that the gist of the "criticism" of BoW has had a nasty tone, his trollish OPs and combatitive attitude don't exactly help either.

Can WG themselves give an explanation how taking ( combinations of ) AA skills and modules should be attractive ?
arttuperkunas replied to Beastofwar's topic in General Discussion
WG has designed plenty of useless things, like the Deadeye replacement, and a good part of the other skills in the skill tree. The only ready explanation I have is that they don't understand their own game at a very deep level. -

arttuperkunas replied to Beastofwar's topic in General Discussion
If they are willing to do that, I think everyone here would be pleased, "plane hating" (whatever that means) or people who really like CVs. I am just sceptical that they are willing to: a. in general engage in a sincere discussion with the the pbase (because a sincere and frank discussion includes, e.g., admitting mistakes and being self-critical, which is not a WG thing) b. in particular engage in a sincere discussion about CVs - a good indication of this is what they have consigned CV discussions into a gulag thread -

arttuperkunas replied to Beastofwar's topic in General Discussion
Their own stated explanation (which is a bit of a non-explanation tbh) is that "planes are part of our visions for WOWS" and should be in every match. Exactly why they believe this is a good or desirable thing is - and I am being quite sincere - a mystery to me, albeit one that I unfortunately don't expect to be revealed. Most WG communications tend to be obtuse corporate bullcrappery that even I, a professional expert in producing obtuse corporate bullcrappery, cannot penetrate. Edit: and the purpose of your OP, if it is sincere, is laudable. However, I very greatly doubt WG is interested or willing to engage in a frank and open discussion about CVs/planes or their reasons for pushing them so widely into the game. We reply to these kinds of threads with sarcastic disdain because we have no hope of a good-faith, proper response from WG. -
Depressingly valid logic

I think it was advertised as having good concealment, no?

I hate playing the Kremlin and I hate playing against it (shooting that thing is an exercise in bullshi*ery due to the angled plates and armor model). I don't know what that makes the Kremlin, except rather unfun. Similar experienced with the Petro tbh.

Ok thanks I can relax then

OK I'll be on the edge of my seat waiting for his reply.

I'm pretty sure there's some depressing business calculation behind this. I.e. they have a spreadsheet somewhere that has a sales prediction for a premium; it will probably have a big bump at the start, and then a long, falling tail at the end as the market becomes saturated for that product and the trendiness fades. At a given point on that product's lifetime - which can be more or less exactly pointed out, if you have the data (and WG has the data) - it is more profitable to make the product obsolete and bring in a replacement or replacements. So while these actions are regrettable, I don't necessarily agree that they go against WG's business interest.

I don't think it's a question of national bias, or at least I haven't looked at it in those terms. You have stupid, OP, broken ships in more than one nation (thunderer, smaland, Benham, black, Petro, Stalin, Kremlin...). But I agree, the Kearsage or however it's written looks like a dreadful idea. At least the Tone and the Ise look like they have to give up a lot to get some frankly somewhat questionable planes. The US BB looks very questionable even without the planes, but with them...
-
Do you? Has anyone seriously suggested that the new Russian CV line looks overly strong? I don't think so. People here object to getting yet more CVs and getting more paper ships, not the specifics of the line. Indeed, it looks like quite a niche line that, if implemented as suggested (F for doubt), would probably not be particularly OP.

The balans carriers are here. Celebrations, and put up that goddamn disco music
arttuperkunas replied to totally_potato's topic in General Discussion
Anyone know how many of these are wholesale WG inventions? Did the Soviets have their own carrier designs that just never turned into actual ships before the cold war? -
Thanks for the analysis; I would also be very happy to see replays if/when you have them.
