Usually at least our three man spawns in the middle, and depending on the ships that's either annoying or very bad (playing Stalin in centre blows :/)

Did you ever wonder what goes on in the minds of players with 1000s of games and worse than bot level performance? Now you know edit: took a closer look at stats. 15k average dmg, 0,1 kills in saipan. Dude. You really, really need to start watching videos and find a jedi mentor or something. You don’t have the faintest idea what you’re doing.
-
You also don’t spend 90% of a battle being outspotted by a stealthier dd - you use the radar when you need it. Radar also means stealthier dds will keep their distance unless they know the radar is on cooldown. The net result is that bad concealment is less of a handicap than on say the paolo emilio. This also means you cant just keep the ragnar lit with impunity for teammates to shoot, because of the radar, and you cant really push it in a dd for the sane reason. I hate radar on dds :(

Ragnar is a pain to deal with. Poor concealment doesn’t matter much when you have radar.

I had the impression the tokarev was a pretty rugged and reliable piece of kit. Never fired/don’t have any in depth knowledge obviously. -
Btw, kudos for being one of the most consistently polite/respectful ppl on the forum, I could never attain that level of chill :p.

It would be more apt to send them a box of tokarevs -

Not in my first crate, not buying any more to test. -
Fixed that for you.

Only logical explanation: players are wrong, spreadsheet does not lie. With a chorus of "vocal minority". -

fwiw I find subs' impact on the game more subtle than that of CVs, and imho we still don't have enough data to properly assess them. We're only now learning what good sub drivers can do with their boats. One thing I can say with certainty is that they encourage (again) a more passive gameplay, and discourage pushing. Once again, the prime target are lone ships, especially BBs. They also synergize in unholy ways with HE spam due to the need to use damcon take out pings (or vice versa; if you repaired a double fire and a sub pings you, you're fked). -

All of this is bizarre to me. It's like WG is in a competition with itself (or, to be more accurate, divisions/employees are in competition) to artificially prove to the company or its leadership that this or that (CVs, Subs...) investment is a success. What if all of this effort was put into actually improving the game? -

Great logic there from WG. Most people I know who play ranked do it solely for the steel, or because they like smaller teams in smaller maps, and a more fast paced, brawly style of gameplay. Subs are something we have to suffer through to get them. -
Ugh. Rank 6 league was a roflstomp, passed through it in a few hours. Qualifications were... a fking nightmare. Scraped by yesterday, but have to say it was a truly nasty, stressful experience. One step forward, one step backward... Subs make it worse, because a. they can spot DDs with impunity, including in smoke, and you can't really do anything about them in the early game b. the skill gap right now is MASSIVE. Most sub players are more or less harmless, while those ppl who have mastered them just wreck face. My particular favourite is, when you get the rare chance as a DD to actually try a depth charge, the fker insta surfaces and launches a full spread of torps in your face. gg. Great game design.

I don't have those kinds of drugs :(.

Not only is it hard to play this game solo, but I just honestly don't enjoy it. And I don't want to use my free time on something that will upset, annoy and frustrate me. This makes me a casual, but I don't really pretend to be anything else :P. I mean I do have the ambition to improve at the game, but I won't pretend that I will do everything that is required. That also means that, while my winrate will probably settle around 55-60% in the long term, it will not really represent my personal skill. As we all know, good+ divs win games. This is another problem with the imperfect information conveyed by the stats in this game.
-
I understand this would be valuable from a learning point of view, but I would rather stick pins under my fingernails than play this game solo in randoms right now, on any ship, for any reason.
-
You know, why not? I won't promise to turn those tiers purple, because low games played + crapshoot MM means that's a recipe for frustration, but I'll take them out for a spin when the opportunity presents. (the opportunity does not always present as I pretty much solely play divs these days, partly because I have a low tolerance for window licking team mates, and partly just lack of time/preference for playing together with friends - so it depends what tiers my divmates want to play)
-
that's a pretty good rule of thumb :P. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to give advice and to look at my stats, I do appreciate it. Edit: btw, you're welcome to join me at T5. I feel quite comfortable in that kiddy pool, as I think my Okhotnik stats will show.
-
I don't really think there's anything wrong with looking at stats and drawing conclusions. That said, stats are imperfect information. I played the IJN gun and torp lines as pretty much my first DDs, because I thought they would be easy/straightforward. I think my stats reflect that - even the Hatsu stats really aren't representative, so few games don't mean anything. I basically stopped at Kagero/Akizuki because I didn't like the playstyle(s), and I sucked. There's like a 6-7 month gap in between my first halting efforts at the Kagero, and now. I feel quite comfortable playing at T8-T9 now, and actually am starting to like the torpedo ninja playstyle of the Kagero line (only done a few games in randoms after my long hiatus, mostly played it in ranked so far). I've even started to slowly git gud with torps, which has been a long journey; I played the UK dd line and Haida partly because I've felt more comfortable in gun-focused brawlers. I don't really fully agree with your advice, even if it is sage advice. IMO the Kagero line really starts at T8, just as the ships below Akizuki don't resemble it that much. Similarly, playing below T8 really isn't the same, as you have far less radar and smaller maps. I might return to the lower tiers again, but I don't think it's great practice for the Kagero. Akizuki/Kita I'm just not going to touch for now, I still don't really like that playstyle, and the ships just feel too clumsy and awkward for me. Also, re Asashio - that thing has been my entry drug into the IJN torp line. Sweet Jesus that thing is fun/powerful.
-
This forum is where he presents his game these days for the most part :P.
-
I know, I've watched some of those videos :P. The number one reason why I am grinding the tech tree is that my divs often want to play T9, and I just don't like the Jutland that much, so I need a stealthy, fun to play T9 DD, and Yug seems to fit the bill.
-
Thx for all the feedback! I will look into this more, look at the posted videos and try and find what is "my" playstyle with the Yugumo (I honestly doubt I will play the Kagero that much due to having the Asashio, which does not have to make this choice :P).
-
Thanks for all of these opinions, it's particularly valulable that I get the reasoning, as it helps to weight the pros and cons of this choice. For the record: I play DDs to win, damage is really a secondary concern. My gut feeling is that smoke is better for winning games due to better utility, and helping fight other dds (so if a DD is spotted you can pepper away with your slow firing, high alpha 127mm he).
