Bravo WG (Satan container drop rates, CV spotting)
arttuperkunas posted a topic in General Discussion
@Crysantos @YabbaCoe Your employer gets a lot of flak and for good reason on these forums. That said, I wanted to give a shout out that I appreciate the small steps WG has taken to listen to the community. The obfuscation of drop rates was pretty much the number one thing I and many others found off-putting about this game/company, so this was a very good move. Some months ago, a lot of us were sceptical about WG's promises to "do better", and demanded actions not words. These were actions. Thank you. I hope that WG will also in the future be sensitive to the issues that the community cares about. I don't think you will regret it.- 27 replies

New Year Fleet Event vs. Stage 18 Reward "HMS Repulse"
arttuperkunas replied to xfeinyx's topic in General Discussion
Fair enough... The reason why I wrote last year is that that is my only earlier year with the game (started in late spring 2020). Interesting to know this was the same every year.- 37 replies

New Year Fleet Event vs. Stage 18 Reward "HMS Repulse"
arttuperkunas replied to xfeinyx's topic in General Discussion
The Strasbourg was easy to get for free. The missions that required the Strasbourg were not easy to do unless you splurged doubloons and got it early.- 37 replies

Yeah, I have trouble getting worked up about this... a bunch of tech tree tier 5s and their permacamos are like the dictionary definition of "not worth doubloons".- 37 replies

This is what they did last year with the Strasbourg. You had like one week to grind out a ridiculous amount of combat missions/stages, it was basically not doable (without Puerto Rico levels of grinding) if you didn't get the Strasbourg faster than it would have become available without spending doubloons.- 37 replies

Well I started that Yolo Emilio thread, so yeah, I know about that. But to be 100% honest, I agree with most of the posters there - the complete evisceration of YE's AA makes quite a small difference in how you play the ship, as its AA was already terrible. Like, in hindsight I definitely regret getting the YE - but not because of the shite AA.
-
YE is certainly unique. I just find her frustrating to play, because it takes so much effort. Yugumo (of either flavour) is literally easy mode compared to YE, as you don't constantly have to obsess about concealment ranges and find ways to mitigate the ship's crippling flaws in order to dig out its strengths.
-
Imo she’s bad because while you can make her work, you can pretty much make any other t9 work with less effort.
-
Kind of tragic for a bad concealment ship that is big and unmanouvrable, that thing will be cv food even more than it is now. meh this pretty much cements the YE as a trashbote with precisely one, rarely useful trick up its sleeve
-
Stated reason was that Emilios main battery was not historically dual purpose, so they took out main gun effect from AA.

Ranked Battles: Need more than seven on a team.
arttuperkunas replied to The_Angry_Admiral's topic in General Discussion
I think it's unnecessary. Ranked is fun because it is a clearly different game experience, largely because of the small teams. At least some of us (many of us?) play it precisely because it is small team format, and e.g. similar to clan battles (which also is 7 vs 7). I don't think 9 vs 9 would be that popular for many players. (fwiw we have had 9 vs 9 in various special game modes over the years) -
Or you waste time, credits and flags regrinding several lines and then get the yolo emilio sadface
-
Wg customer support, like most of their other frontline employees, are decent folk. The rot lies elsewhere
-
Yeah, got intermittent, EXTREME lag in a match just now.

Bravo WG (Satan container drop rates, CV spotting)
arttuperkunas replied to arttuperkunas's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, apparently the crates don't work the same. Black ships had no tier/differentiation, but Satan crates do. So there is a kind of "soft" shortlist, but at the same time you have a chance of drawing from outside the shortlist (1% chance of rare ship in mega crates, e.g.,). -

Got you covered fam (I also know several friends of mine got JBs without, e.g., having Sims or Scharn - so I have no reason to believe this is not accurate). It really seems that WG has mended its ways for now, at least in this specific case. The information presented about the odds is really very clear and very comprehensive, and I cannot find any fault in it. (please note: this is specific to black friday containers; for santa containers they do have a tier system, and they have openly published it) -

I think they released the drop rates in the shop for black friday containers. I would expect them to do the same with Satan crates. -
BB Fire Prevention Skill: Is it really worth it?
arttuperkunas replied to The_Angry_Admiral's topic in General Discussion
Yes, depending on what you're playing. Mid to long range sniper-y BBs I don't consider it essential (but take it anyway at some points, if I have enough cpt skill points). On anything that likes to get close it's absolutely mandatory. -
Coal: Which ship should I get?
arttuperkunas replied to The_Angry_Admiral's topic in General Discussion
I find the 8,5 km radar offputting. It’s fairly useless for the radar cruiser role, which is a shame as the DM is one of the best ships in the game for that niche. -

The devil is in the details as always, but I am cautiously optimistic. -
Should I play Ranked while roaring drunk?
arttuperkunas replied to Gvozdika's topic in General Discussion
Quality shippost 10/10 Btw on-topic - our clan has actual written rules on not playing drunk. given that we are "Suomalaiset laivapelaajat" (i.e. "Finnish ship captains") you can maybe see the need. Apparently some people were in the habit of coming to clan matches roaring drunk, and would pick fights with clanmates and, ehm, not exactly play optimally. -
This just in: this game is played to a large degree by clueless potatoes ...and other brand new realisations (yesterday I had a match where I torped a full health Georgia down to 4-5 k health. After which our half health North Carolina promptly rammed him)

Wargaming needs to issue user manuals to their ships
arttuperkunas replied to kissforu8's topic in General Discussion
There are situation in which it makes more sense for the BB to shoot the German BB pushing into the cap or the radar cruiser lurking behind the cap, but as a general rule absolutely everyone should shoot a spotted DD when it is spotted. Even if those shells don't kill it, being under focus fire will force the DD away from the cap and restrict its freedom of movement. -
