I guess this is WG attempt to get everyone to play DDs Subs and CVs where the mods matter less! -
Lolz.. I just realized how completely useless cap skills are for cruisers
zheng_he14 replied to Andrewbassg's topic in General Discussion
The IJN lights definitely benefit from swift fish given their torps detectability and base speed but hilighting one class like this or USN CLs vis-a-vis another is a waste of time Happy with the Cruiser skills as they are they buff utility and damage, essentially what cruisers are about, the Italian/PA ones that don't have much utility end up having to be buff'ed for damage but that's the nature of the line! The squishiest ones get smoke and/or heals to offset their lack of survivability, they're cruisers and meant to be played with care not surrogate battleships. If a particular ship/line has an issue the characteristics of that ship/line should be adjusted (e.g. heal for Harbin) there shouldn't be captain skills that change a Neptune into a Riga (extreme example to illustrate point)! rather the skills and equipment should allow a player to adjust the ship to their playstyle but still fit within the underlying characteristics of the ship/line in question -

So the whole WG hates cruisers/cruiser skills are trash is because you can't get a German light cruiser and a German heavy cruiser to share a captain! Good to know root cause! -
Azuma as a T9 premium if you need to get silver it literally mints the stuff if you can play the long range glass cannon HE spammer! Yoshino is a more rounded proposition (if something gets too close the torps helps keep them back) and generally a better ship but doesn't make as much coin! I got the Yoshino first, but if you have lots of FXP but not much coal then get the Azuma since its getting removed as a FXP ship and come back as a coal ship!

a new branch of Japanese cruisers is a complete unplayable trash can.
zheng_he14 replied to maybe__baby's topic in General Discussion
My Average Random Win rate 49% My win rates in randoms for the Japanese light Cruiser Line Shimanto 79% Omono 70% Agano 67% Gokase 54% Takahashi 52% Ground all the way up to Yodo but only took Yodo out in Airship so far! Takahashi is just a Shimanto with a heal and slot 5 and it shows! This line is hardly 'unplayable' just need to set them up right and treat them as light cruisers but play at medium to long ranges. For T8 and upwards traded concealment for steering gears mod 3 and prop mod in slot 4 so dodging was my preferred method of staying alive! -
AEGIS is almost unplayable since it was reworked
zheng_he14 replied to RenamedUser_92906789's topic in General Discussion
IMHO, the reworked operations are fine, they are just spoilt by the people that you have to play with. I get wins playing operations consistently after midday on a Saturday because the folks that queue up for them know what they are doing and are there to score resources. Other times you have morons who Spend the end of a Cherry Blossom game shooting at DDs instead of the airfields BBs chasing the CV and transports instead of protecting the convoy in Narai BBs clumping together trying to hide in smoke right in front of a barrage of torps and dying in the first 5 minutes of AEGIS Players hanging back instead of protecting the Ruan because they don't want to die in the final stages of Ultimate Frontier If people spent a minute to understand what the winning criteria is in each scenario rather than treat it as gunnery practice against bots then scenarios are fun otherwise I'd rather take my chances in Randoms because odds are there's just as many morons in the opposite team as in yours. The only gripe I have with the rework is the removal of the time limit between re-entering a ship into ops means that if things look like its going south everyone just suicides so they aren't wasting their time this happens a lot in AEGIS -
Tier 9 was my goto tier, played at least 1 game in the Azuma a day for credit and elite Cmdr XP grinding, because I've got all the non CV and Sub Silver ships and the FXP and credits to get all the CVs and Subs if I wanted to, but since I don't play either class its just a waste! So its been a case of stocking up Elite Cmdr XP and Credits, picking up daily containers after I got the Marseille. With the latest release and all the changes not sure whether I can be bothered to play, going on 2 weeks vacation end of the month, so won't be around to finish the Japanese Light Cruiser event or the battle pass. Just broke the 2 million FXP mark this morning, as I am not interested in the research bureau which is just a scam in my book, I can just FXP all the Japanese light cruisers if I am so inclined, they don't seem to be very good I was bullying one in an Agile, yesterday, when I was clocking a personal achievement thingy, although to be fair 21pt captain, smoke, 139s and no citadel can make things a little one sided. Played a couple of superships before they were added to the tech tree they just seem like 'pay to win' boats! Having almost dev struck a full broadside Conde at 18Km with the first salvo in my GK (that well know sniper!) this morning, I wonder about those players who scramble for these boats (BTW that Conde was slapped by a Hinde straight after and died, not sure it got off a salvo in the game!) Will probably take the Renown, Monarch and Lion out for a spin since they've been buffed but otherwise might as well just wait for the next dockyard and snowflakes!

Roadmap and what..... lies...... ahead.
zheng_he14 replied to Andrewbassg's topic in General Discussion
Yes and some us would just like to play a game after a hard day's work without all the BS. As I keep saying don't like WG and what they're doing go do some thing else, call it propaganda if you really must just go do it somewhere else, its the ultimate expression of your point about players, because unlike with governments as a consumer you have that individual choice, please exercise it. I don't give WG a cent I didn't intend to and on balance I find I get value from what they offer, your mileage may vary. When I don't see the value I'll stop playing and go on to something else, what I am not going to do is waste my time tilting at windmills whilst wrapping myself in some democratic/freedom/human rights/Russo phobic flag, switch on a TV watch an Ad there's someone 'lying' to you get over it. Ending it here another 5 minutes of my life I am not getting back -

zheng_he14 replied to Andrewbassg's topic in General Discussion
Yup, usual blah blah blah drama, I think WG just does this deliberately so the youtube crowd can have their quarterly, faux virtue signalling, click bait videos, its all so laughable when the righteous, 'youtube/twitch is my job' crowd go on about monetisation, no irony lost there! Then there are the drama queens in the forums who can have their rants about how WG are ruining "their" game! Funny how throwing a few bucks and playing the game that some one else spent real money creating, hosting and maintaining means its now 'yours', glad I don't have to throw a party for any of those folks or I might find a dozen squatters in my front room declaring my house is theirs now and deciding what colour curtains I should be buying and putting up! -
What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
zheng_he14 replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Finished the Dutch Cruiser grind yesterday and got the tier 10, this morning got the P Rupprecht, so as its the weekend decided to take a break from the grinding and play some low tier. Iron Duke with a 6 point captain, I guess I've gotten better at WoWs over the years! Would have gotten the Kraken by killing a CV but clock ran out so had to settle for solo warrior. May be the Duke is better than the Agincourt, wouldn't have gotten the AA defense expert award! -

Guess I am always late to the party just got a Makarov in a Christmas Crate, guess that's an achievement -
Got a couple of linkable T8 perm camos left lying around, I've ground all the DD and Cruiser lines past T8 apart from the Pan Asian, but I've already got a permanent camo for the HsienYang from an event! BBs are a bust since the only ship I don't have a permanent camo for is the Richelieu which doesn't currently have a captain as its commander is now helming the Alsace Logically DDs would be the first port of call, the 4 DDs I have without permanent camos are Kagero, Benson, Ognevoi and Fantasque. The Fantasque without smoke would I think be the best candidate The obvious thing would be to put it on the ones I would play the most but having ground past them I don't take them out that often as at T8 the cossack, lightning, akizuki and oland are my goto boats (BTW got the camos free for the 3 tech tree ships). Which kinda has me thinking about putting them on squishy cruisers like the Mogami, Albemarle or the upcoming Pan Asian line might be a better use (but there's probably a T8 camo in sequential bundles during the event!). Just leaving them in the inventory seems a waste, any thoughts, opinions appreciated

Is the Conqueror a notable improvement over the Lion?
zheng_he14 replied to Sir_Sinksalot's topic in General Discussion
Lately seen a lot of GKs try to snipe from the back, its surreal seeing a GK firing HE lurking behind a Yoshino! Had one game this morning when the red GK went down the middle of 2 brothers, 5 minutes into the game! I think the stats reflect more on those who are playing the GK at the moment rather than the ship itself! -
Only get the Pom if you have a high point German captain otherwise it can be a miserable experience. My 16pt Freddie Captain was perfectly serviceable on the Freddie, hell I ground the GK using that captain, but on the Pommern with its wonky dispersion and 15in guns, it was a terrible experience, even using my 18pt Bismarck captain wasn't that great till I took the plunge ground it to 19 points using a couple of premium German cruisers before elite xp'ing to 21 points. Now games in Pom are OK!

Which Ships to use Tier 8 linkable perm Camos
zheng_he14 replied to zheng_he14's topic in General Discussion
Thanks, already ground past everything in T8, so the camos are really for improving concealment/enemy dispersion and avoiding credit loss when playing, rather than grinding anything. Which I guess segways onto favourite ships That's the thing got perma camos on my favourite T8 ships, already, not quite sure how I got here but ended up with only 10 T8 ships without perma camos, 4 dds, 5 cruisers, 1 bb and I didn't buy any T8 perma camos! They would be more use for me at T7 where I'd put them on the Fiji and Jervis but alas that's not how they work, so they've been sitting at the back of the virtual drawer. Anyway thank you both for your feedback -
Is the Conqueror a notable improvement over the Lion?
zheng_he14 replied to Sir_Sinksalot's topic in General Discussion
In the current Meta, the Conq, is the hard counter to the Scheliffen and Kremlin, historically when the Kremlin was all the rage, there would be some very salty games when a well played Conqueror would just burn them to death at range, quarter pen 420mm HE laughs at the Kremlin's 60mm deck armour, adding insult to injury. The way British BB AP is fused also means it does nasty things to cruisers and can be a nasty surprise to all those that think British BBs never load AP so just sail broadside on! At the time having seen so many reviews and youtube videos lauding the lion, I was really looking forward to it, only to find out when I took it out they'd taken a nerf bat to it, after the reviews and videos were made. Had a bad time with the lion during my grind, at range the shells tend to go a bit all over the place but getting too close is a death sentence, didn't help it was the first line I ground so a bit green at the time! There was a memorable game late on having survived without much damage but needing to contest a cap, a bow in Iowa just destroyed both my front turrets, the ram was thwarted by the fact he had mounted the flag! Should also note that T10 is a much tougher place than T9 so although the Conq is a better ship than the Lion it also faces much tougher opposition, Conqueror games also tend to be a bit boring with the red team spewing abuse if you are doing your thing well! When I picked up the Thunderer pretty much stopped playing the Conqueror, as heal aside its a much better ship (its the rudder shift that makes the difference!) Nowadays I just use the Yoshino if I need to satisfy that long range firebombing playstyle, the spotter plane and meme torpedoes makes it more interesting! -
I got to Z-23 after they dropped the bigger guns and had a good time with her, the Z-46 was initially more of a challenge but its more due to the fact the higher the tier the more radar and cruisers with heals there are, finished the line just before Christmas, played a lot of arms race in the Z-46 during the grind, but didn't like the Z-52 which is a port queen. Having started with the British line then the Pan Euro, the German main line DDs feel like a familiar hybrid (short smokes, hydro and quick reloading torps that don't do a massive amount of damage). Grinding out this line is just a matter of completeness! I actually have less fun with Japanese torp boats because pottering around between spraying torps every couple of minutes seems a boring way to spend 20 minutes!

I am a lousy DD player and have a Smaland, which I really only use in Ranked, where it makes me look like I am an OK DD player since the team that's left with the DDs tends to win and shimas and hallands are just canon fodder for a Smaland! In my experience Ragnar's are hard to kill with a DD, a Smaland would lose a straight gun fight pretty much every time, after one encounter in Ranked, I tend to leave them alone in my Smaland, bait out their radar, let them fire to get them spotted and engine boost out of there, leaving them for the Russian cruisers! That said, in randoms the Ragnar seem to fall prey to hi tier British CAs especially a reload Drake, the combo of low detection, decent speed, accurate HE and ridiculous heal means a Ragnar that choses to stand and fight a Drake just dies as it can't trade against that heal and whenever the HE connects it just tears chunks out, running away and going dark negates its presence in the game and since it doesn't have torps it can be run down, its concealment once on fire just makes things worse for it. That's kind of what you'd expect I guess, since its essentially a light cruiser! I've got the steel for a Ragnar but holding off for now, with the voucher now have the steel for a shika which is hopefully enough for an incomparable! Besides want to see what the delny is like as a long range run and gun boat and if Russian bias is real!

First time out in a new ship without a proper captain spec or upgrades to figure what it needs Next couple of times out in a new ship once upgraded to get a feel for it Get the last hundred or so XP from a win in daily missions when you had a poor game but won the battle Missions Take the Smaland out after a bad day to obliterate a few ships for stress relief
-
It was never on sale, it was made available from crates in an event

Nope I am saying I am swapping the Dubs for the other resources and get a ship thrown in, I wouldn't bother with the starter pack otherwise, since I don't need another Tier 9 premium BB. Between JB, Georgia, Marco Polo, Pommern and Hizen most if not all situations covered and with 7 Premium/Special British BBs don't need another as a captain trainer or credit printer (I've got all the non CV tech line British ships, anyway!), the fact its a good or bad ship doesn't come into my personal equation, for other people, may be a little newer to the game, getting a premium T9 BB that's pretty much guaranteed to provide a net profit in credits every game (a dozen HE quarter pen salvos from 16 guns before dying should give enough damage for a positive credit haul, most non DD players last longer than 5 minutes in a game!), without forking out a sizable amount of hard cash might be a bigger deal. What I am saying is the game would suffer if they gave away an over powered Tier 9 BB to anyone with 5500 dubs! A ship with high skill ceiling means those who can take advantage of the ship's pros whilst mitigating its cons will have a good time, whilst joe average won't ruin every game by burning the other team to ash in 10 minutes and so won't end up with 5 Marlboroughs in every game. Without a higher barrier to entry all dock yard ships need to have a reasonably high skill ceiling, give the Anchorage, Baltimore guns and smoke detection even keeping the 15.5sec reload things would suck for everyone else! The Marlborough is different from almost all the other Premium British BBs which have a slant towards AP performance than the tech line and can offer a different play style, the Marlborough is more like an up tiered KGV, if they gave it better sigma and firing angles with 16 guns that fires HE, a base 25sec reload that can drop below 20 secs with AR and MBM3 every same tier destroyer without a detonation flag that gets spotted within its own firing range by the Marlborough is a candidate to be instantly deleted by someone with half decent aim and those that might survive the first salvo won't survive the second, the KGV has equally 'bad' firing angles otherwise it would do the same to T7 DDs, balance is not just about what happens between ships of the same class. Finally, one man's meat is another man's poison, I happen to like the Monarch and think the Bismarck is trash which I am sure is the minority opinion! I might like the Marlborough I might not but I am not really going to know just by reading what someone else scrawls
-
I've come to the conclusion that dock yard ships are always nerf'ed to some degree and need to be, Puerto Rico aside they've all been easily obtainable for a modest outlay in dubs, if the ships were any good in the hands of novice players it would wreck both the economy and gameplay. If the Marlborough was even within spitting distance of a JB it would just be a fire breathing credit printer given its a T9 premium with a 100% XP camo bonus. To be honest I just view the Marlborough as a 'free' bonus, the dubs for the starter pack pays for itself with the 2000 steel 4000 research points and 10K of coal. A tier 9 premium ship in port is always a welcome addition come snowflake time and you could use it instead of the Agincourt in coop for those missions requiring BB fire damage, 25 second reload pretty much ideal to light up the bot BBs with 2 salvoes since they always put fires out immediately so the second salvo will deal a perma fire. I look forward to taking Marlborough out, I seem to do OK in all the ships that the 'experts' claim are subpar and just scrape by on the 'good' ships
-
Grossly overpowered! Agincourt is OK at T5, the Oklahoma is the one that needs a serious do-over, got AA, but so what!
-
Played 132 Randoms in Agincourt with a 55% win rate apart from the 100% WR from 1 game in the Repulse she's my best WR British BB! Of the BBs with more than 50 games she's only beaten by the Freddie with a 57% WR! Might just be me who gets how to play all the unloved 'worse' ships in tier vessels, but suck at all the so called OP ones!
