:o) See you around my friend

February 20, 2019, I made a thread on the forum. I was a potato. The CV rework had just sat in. I asked to learn how to play DDs. First answer was from @Bear__Necessities. Then @ForlornSailor and @DFens_666 joined. @GarrusBrutus, @Mr_Tayto, @RAHJAILARI, @El2aZeR, @thiextar and @T0byJug gave their advice. @Ronchabale, @BrusilovX, @BLUB__BLUB and @invicta2012 had a say. @Procrastes eloquent as ever, joined. Since then I did learn how to play DDs. I think you all had something to do with it. Thank you all. I still remember the first PM comment I got from @159Hunter on a replay I posted asking for tips and pointers. "You did too little too late" I was also invited to join a clan with a PM on this Forum. I made it to Typhoon with NWP. I remember playing against the THESO boyz. Sinking @MrWastee and chatting with @HMS_Kilinowski. Thx gents it was fun. I made @lup3s rage quit one day in div. @Yosha_AtaIante tried to teach me how to play CVs. I failed him miserably. Now, sometimes, I torment @Profilus in division. I know I forgot many names. I m sorry, I m a grumpy old man. I do forget. All this on the forum. And I will always remember that on this forum I found out I am an Elitist. With most of you I still chat on Discord, with some of you I am in the same clan. Thank you all It saddens me that it is closing down. It was full of crap, but still, if you looked around you would find gems. I found many. I hope I gave some back.

Well my friend and teacher, discussions like this make the forum worth the time. Hello gents, @Yosha_AtaIante, I think that the game was lost no matter what move he would make. If he did the move for A, the sub (if her captain had a bit of brains) could stop pinging and just spot and let the Bourgogne just do the job. All, the other ships were good as dead. I tend to agree that A would have a remote (very very remote) chance for a dramatic finale. Kill the bourgogne, balance the caps and hope just hope that the red team would try to win hard. I cant see the score on your replay so I cant really tell. My opinion is that no matter how hard the red team tried to snatch defeat out of the mouth of victory they would fail. What we know is that the Ohio goes down 10 seconds after you start playing, so does the Kear. Two, less than useful BBs left on the green team, out of position, to face a slava, ibuki, ohio and the sub. Lets assume he went A. Lets also assume that he sunk the Bourgogne. Then what? If this hypothetical scenario that @Bear__Necessities would go to A cap, killed the Bourgogne took the cap, but he would be Last man Standing. The sub would (should) just stay out of harms way and just spot. It would be just a matter of time that Bear would go down.

Independence day for Greece and the OXI DAY (NO DAY)

Boyz (and girlz if any) Why don't we stay on topic? I am afraid that this might turn nasty if we continue venturing in areas that are not strictly connected to the game. Just saying -
uhmmm....did someone call me for some reason?

Impressive out of 101 posts in this thread (102 including this one) Pete has authored, been mentioned/quoted or indirectly referenced to in 59 posts (60 with this one) 60% of this thread is about Pete. Amazing. The fourth page is 23/25 posts about pete (not even a debate with pete but about him) What is funny is that we all know who is Pete and how he uses his keyboard. Boyz (and girls if any)...Why?

Random Battles need a hard max of stealth ships
Saltface replied to Sha1yen's topic in General Discussion
In my opinion there is a certain degree of merit to the OP's statement. In a game based on the principle of paper-scissors-rock, if one of the three dominates the MM, most probably we will not have a balanced match. As a Benham (e.g.) player I would like 11 Yamato and my Benham, as a Yamato player I would like my Yamato and 11 cruisers. Wishful thinking but not contributing to a balanced game. Too many of any class in a game does not contribute to a balanced game. (One can recall meme CB setups with lots of Kleber) However, one must also look at the statistics. And here is where the OP is wrong (IMHO). We do have lopsided games. For example 2 CVs or 5DDs or any other combination. But how many out of the multitude of battles are like this? Heck, we even had (I have played in one) 1 CV and 1 DD vs 1 CV and 1 DD. A random game like a brawl. But, is this common? I don't think so. And this is where the OP is wrong. In conclusion, while the principle that class participation should be balanced in the MM is correct, I don't think the exceptions to the rule should dictate an action. -

Independence day for Greece and the OXI DAY (NO DAY)

Just a technical note: Poland had their national day celebrated. They only had one ship in game. BTW I fully support the celebration of national days. It is a nice opportunity to read up a bit of history, and to be honest the media made by WG is top quality. (unlike some aspects of the gameplay LOL) The Averof media was excellent. So was the historical note on Velos. https://worldofwarships.eu/en/news/general-news/armistice-day-and-pl-independence-2022/ in the spoiler I have the flags of the Hellenic Navy. The one you show is the Hellenic Navy Jack. A square flag with a white cross on a blue field. A golden crown was added in the centre during the periods of monarchy (1833–1924 and 1935–1973). The jack is flown on the bow of a ship and the ensign is flown on the stern of a ship when anchored or moored. Once underway, the ensign is flown from the main mast. So, for game, use given the period of the game, the HRN Flag should be used. (shown in second spoiler) @Aethervoxx You must be really silly to downvote as bad a post that shows the colors of a nation. Or deranged. Or C. all of the above. This An unlikely source for this is found in: https://wiki.wargaming.net/en/Ship:Torpedoes#:~:text=2.5km %2F (62 knots * 2.6) ≈ 15.5 seconds I quote Reaction Time Torpedo reaction times, i.e. the time it takes for the torpedo to travel across its Detectability Range, can be computed assuming a stationary target. It follows that moving towards the torpedo will reduce the reaction time, while moving away will increase the reaction time. The torpedo's Detectability Range is shown when hovering the mouse over the Torpedo Tubes heading in the port's ship specifications. To compute the reaction time, the Detectability Range must be divided by the torpedo's speed. Because the torpedo's speed is shown in knots, the value must be converted to meters per second; however, since in-game units do not correspond directly to real-world units, a unique conversion factor must be applied to convert the torpedo's speed in knots to meters-per-second. Following considerable amounts of testing by numerous users, a conversion factor of 2.6 was arrived at and has been derived with relatively precise accuracy. Note that the 2.6 figure converts knots to meters-per-second, rather than kilometers-per-second. For the (unitless) formula to work correctly, we must take that into account by multiplying the answer by 1000. Thus, the formula is: Drange / (Vtorp * 2.6) * 1000 = Treaction Alternatively, one could use a conversion factor of 0.0026 rather than multiplying the result by 1000: Drange / (Vtorp * .0026) = Treaction As an example, the reaction time of an incoming Japanese Type F3 torpedo, acquired beginning with Yugumo, would be: 1.9km / (76 knots * 2.6) ≈ 9.6 seconds Whereas the reaction time for an incoming Japanese Type 93 torpedo — found aboard stock Shimakaze — would be: 2.5km / (62 knots * 2.6) ≈ 15.5 seconds Note the above figures were calculated with data from Update 0.5.7.

What is the point of playing DD oder Cruiser in this game?

Battle not ending straight away.
Saltface replied to EireannGamingNetwork's topic in General Discussion
Hypothetical Scenario You are the last player on your team. You have 178 HP. You win on points. After the Victory banner pops up you get shot at and lose your last drops of HP and sink. You have a victory while all of your team is sunk. Funny innit? Don't get me wrong. It is kinda nice to have the extra few seconds. But, lets see the first crying post in the forum about a scenario like the one above. -

Fine. We don't need to agree do discuss. That would be boring. Absolutely not. I am not the responsibility of the State. I do not belong to the State. The State has been put in place not to control me. But, to serve me and protect me.The State is chosen by me (at least where I was born and belong). Contrarywise, my children are my genetic responsibility and my legal (societal) obligation. Two very different meanings. Therefore, by right of birth and social mandate I am absolutely responsible for my children till the age of 18 and till death by right of love that comes from nature. Children will grow and enjoy the privileges that their parents grant them. The same natural way that a parent gives to the offspring privileges (schools, tutors, sports, entertainment, games, pocket money, hobbies) to the best that they can (or want), in that same way the offsprings trusts the parental lead for the first years of life. The child (boy or girl) will spend money? The parent has the obligation and the right at the same time to know where this money has been spent. What if the child does not spend it on a game but for something bad? What if the spending was excessive? Or for the wrong reasons?. It is not Police State. It is good parenting. Mic Drop. I don't agree. I don't need protection. I just need the Law to be applied. Strawman. Furthermore, your post (answering to mine - I read the rest but I talk about the part addressed to me) is a definition of non sequitur. So, we disagree. End of story.
-
I am a father of two. My kids are older than most of you. If a child spends their money on this game (beyond an agreed level of expense) then the error is with the parents. How come a child can spend money without control? Monetization from WG (I agree it is shady) is one thing, but I will not blame WG for errors of parents. As far as adults are concerned, if you have the right to vote, I am not going to tell you how to spend your money. I will lament the fact that you can vote but there is nothing I can do. Now, if you believe that the state has to "protect" the m0rons that will spend their hard earned money on a game with shady monetization practices, I will disagree. Let Darwin do his job.

I don't know if he said the same. I don't think so. If he agrees with me he agrees with me. As far as this is concerned I think Smegger contributed to the silliness. I don't know. Maybe. Get me some good data and we have a nice talk. With the data we can, "at best" , have educated guesses.

Before we see the stats we have to make some basic assumptions or better put some ground rules. The public data we have show that WG is a successful multi million dollar company (some reports say billion). Also, we know that they are doing very well financially and that they have no direct competition. Moreover, the game needs paying players or else it will not exist as a F2P game for all the others that either play free or pay very very little. Are the new statistic tables useful? They are nice but not really conclusive. The tables show what we (most of us)) suspected. It is possible that the player number is declining (I said possible not probable). Some go as far as to claim that the root cause of this decline is the CV rework and the SUB debacle. Read well what I wrote. I am very precise. The new data show only so much. There is a note by the publisher with points of caution that would help the data interpretation. The data show that we can suspect this but they are not conclusive. Is the Game dying? I don't think I can tell. But also, I don't think so. The data does not allow me to assert an answer. However, I also know that a company that enjoys the monopoly in the genre (niche I agree), is strong financially and faces no direct competition, is hard to close a project. Not in the near future at least. Is the Game losing players? Who knows? I can't tell. I can suspect however, from reading the data, that WG is losing "clients" players. I didn't say they are losing money (or if they are making money) I said players. Is this loss of players attributable to the CV rework and the introduction of Submarines? I can't tell, but, there is a correlation between these milestones and the player number. I can't say if there is causation.. So, yes, maybe, who knows? Could be. So, it looks like, WG could be losing players and maybe CVs and Subs could have something to do about that. But we need more data if we want to say this with certainty. One personal note. Dudes grow up. Stick to the subject. All these last posts are silly.

those who make rules, did they have a medical checkup?
Saltface replied to RenamedUser_540962289's topic in General Discussion
Here is my question. Did the keyboard malfunction or the game, because of a bug, stopped responding to keys being pressed? These are two distinct cases. The later (software failure) is WG fault the first one (hardware failure) is your fault. Now it is easy to answer your question. You cannot. You should replace your keyboard with a functional one. This is your responsibility. Maintaining your hardware in good working order is on your side of the fence. While WG is responsible for many "bugs" your keyboard is not one of them. So, you were inactive and got penalized for inactivity. Simple. You did not earn a few credits, nothing serious happened. Why do you make a fuss out of it? Especially, when the malfunction was in your domain of responsibility. -
Which forum members have you seen in random battles?
Saltface replied to Cobra6's topic in General Discussion
Helloooo Leo. Nice seeing you in game. -
This is the worst thing. We believe things. Belief is the acceptance of some "thing" as true despite the lack of evidence, sometimes, even if the evidence indicates that that "thing" might not be true at all. In our case, no need to get all philosophical here, the game we are playing has a few things that we can "know". No need to believe. Just look at the facts and draw sane, logical and well founded in reality conclusions. Instead of arguing at a debate level about the interpretation of facts, we concoct theories and evangelical sermons. (excuse the parable) Claiming that the game is "unplayable" or that it is "rigged" or that "rng is fixed for each one of the players" is on the same ground with the "witch hunts" (TBH WG doesn't help) But at the end.....this is who we are. This is our level. The thinking man's game my a$$.

There are valid arguments on both sides of the spectrum. Yes, CVs and Subs do not interact nicely with the other classes. Yes, WG is not a master in the Balancing Dept. (in contrast to the Art Dept that they are doing an excellent job) From one side "CVs and Subs are balanced" to the other side "CV players and Sub players should be sold as slaves to a Mars colony" there is a lot of space for discussion. My problem is that people refuse to discuss. No need to agree. Hold a damn discussion with arguments.
-
I am primarily a DD player. I perform rather well in that class. I should be the one complaining about CVs. However, while I do agree that CVs are a broken class (they do not interact well with all other classes), I manage to mitigate and my game is not overly influenced by a CV in my matches. I will digress a bit now. Same applies for radar cruisers. They do pose a problem for DDs. But, again, you learn how to play around the problem and still do good games and have good results. All in all CVs are one more problem to solve in the match equation as are radars. This is my take. I learnt how to play with these in game and I manage to have very decent results. In order to avoid misunderstandings. I prefer games with no CV. It is less challenging (I admit I am a lazy old gitt), I play Torpedo boats most of the time and CVs do affect my game. But, my reaction is far from calling them "game breaking cancer" and wish "death and devastation for the CV players". I had a look at your profile. Not to see if you are a good player or not. For all intents and purposes I will say you are better than me. But, I noticed no battles in the new CVs. Neither have I. However, I have spent lots of time with my div/clan mates talking about counters and tactics to avoid/mitigate CV impact in my games. Did you do the same? How do you counter a BB shooting at you? Can you totally negate it? No. You can mitigate. Same with CV. Coming to the Sub question. As a DD I can't really hunt them down. I am agile enough to dodge them and to ping on the map their position (I play closest to them on my flank duhhh). To be honest, when I play my Benham for example, I am more afraid of a T8 gunboat (Cossack?) than I am of subs. Subs are a boring class. I don't play them either. But, same as for CVs, Radars, Hydros etc, you learn how to play around them. You don't need to like them. I don't like them. But, I will not come here in the forum to say that all Sub players should be summarily executed for betraying the human species. This whole debacle is like a new witch hunt. The new witch is the sub player now. Before one year it was the CV player. Before that the Belfast player. OK OK I got it. You need a witch to hunt. What can I do? Enjoy your witch hunt. Now, let me answer another question (you did not ask but I will answer) Why did I get involved in this discussion? Because no one presents facts and arguments. Everybody recites mantras and reads from the good book passages that are supposed to be golden rules. Or quotes some Youtuber. I hate that. Anyway, enjoy your witch-hunt. I. am out.

Logical fallacy No. 1: Ad Hominem Ad hominem (Latin for 'to the person'), short for argumentum ad hominem, is a term that refers to several types of arguments, most of which are fallacious. Typically this term refers to a rhetorical strategy where the speaker attacks the character, motive, or some other attribute of the person making an argument rather than attacking the substance of the argument itself. This avoids genuine debate by creating a diversion to some irrelevant but often highly charged issue. Very cheap of you. You have to present your counter arguments on the arguments he presents. This is debate 101. Instead you go on with this BS answer. Sorry mister. You just lost all your credibility. People that read what we write are not dumb. They can see who is wrong and who is right. Present your side, he will present his side. We will read and decide. This is the way. Unfortunately, you feed the cancel culture that I despise.
