What is your fav class to play and why?
Saltface replied to Bear__Necessities's topic in General Discussion
I second that -
This map is very balanced. Almost mirrored across the SW - NE diagonal. One of the key points that I have mentioned for tactics is Intel. If the enemy starting from south sends the majority of his forces to A you must secure A. Taking A on this map allows for victory. Once one team secures A then it can advance to B and C. All the islands in C and the big island NE in B tempt most players to go there and hide. This makes for a static situation in B and C. They also tend to avoid the open waters between A and B. A small force between B and C can deny both caps. Now, strategy is take A and then B and C. Tactics depend on so many things. One, two or no CV? How many DDs? How many snipers? How many radars? Only one is totally different than having two or three. What I wanted to point out is that no cap should be left to the enemy. Even on a map where the obvious cap is one. Because (in my humble opinion) on this map controlling A is an advantage. But, if you control A and you lose C you will be surrounded very fast and you will stay in A while the enemy enjoys the map. So, to use the title of the thread, you must divide and allocate your forces but you must never let the red team get a cap uncontested.

Let me put in my 10 cents. Lets try and note two words. Strategy and Tactics. They will be useful later on in our discussion. I am an ardent proponent of never leaving a cap uncontested. It is not only to capture it. It also entails to deny it to the opponent. This extends to being in the opponents cap even if taken, as this does not allow the opponent to score points from said cap. The math is simple. Holding a cap in domination mode for 3 minutes is equal to sinking a Battleship. Actually, if you hold one cap more than your opponent for 10 minutes you can still win the game even if you have lost three capital ships more than your opponent. Not to mention that, as this game is time and score based (besides whipping out all red ships), scoring might save you and win the game on points even if you are outnumbered. I could go on, but I think I made my point. Capping is a PRIMARY objective. Early capping is valuable. Denying the opponent a cap is second best. The aforementioned axioms (indulge me here as I consider them as axiomatic truth) are true irrespective of team composition or map. No matter what ships you have in your team, how many radars, how many battleships and so on and so forth, or what map are you playing the game on, the three axioms stand true. Back to the two words we noted. The above three axiomatic imperatives should constitute our strategy. We cap as early as possible or we deny capping to the opponent for as long as possible. These are our strategic goals. And as noted above they stand true for every battle played. Tactics on the other hand depend on fleet composition (how many and what kind of DDs, how many radars, fast or slow ships etc.), map (open or closed caps, caps with many islands in the middle, many scattered island on the map or open waters etc.), intel about enemy quality (e.g. MMM) and intel about enemy deployment (scouting). Tactics, one could argue, are the tools we are going to use in order to achieve our strategic goals. Having said all of the above I can state that I would never let a cap without one ship. I might opt to deny a cap and weaken one flank while aggressively contesting the other two with a reinforced fleet, BUT, no cap should be left for the red team to take with no effort. One easy example is Neighbors: C is easy to deny. Even if the red team has arithmetic superiority it can be denied with a small number of ships. Trying to get angles to fire behind the rock in the middle of C is rather hard and will take a flanking action from the red team that will engage many of their ships to be successful. B also has a geography that allows for denying. The big island NE in B provides cover that is compromised only if you lose C or A. On the other hand A if secured allows to approach B. Well, I would take A while holding B and C. So I would take forces from C and move them to B and forces from B and move them to A and have an all out offensive in A. A smaller number of ships can deny C and B and keep the red ships engaged until my task force in A that enjoys arithmetic superiority secures the cap and turns to eliminate red forces south of B. Once this is done any forces south of C are doomed. In this case arithmetic superiority has greater impact on A, less on B and even less on C. Strategy is the same. Cap or Deny Cap. Never leave a cap for easy taking. Tactics vary.

I envy you. Mine claims it is toooo sloooooooowwwww

Mate, Destroyer play has depth. And it is your job to make the game last longer than 5 minutes. And you only played very few games with destroyers. I was a TOTAL potato - useless player with DDs before 5 months. A total failure. I asked forum for help. Now I am a healthy DD player. Give it a try. It can be total fun. And it is the class that can really influence the outcome of the game.
-
Uhmmmm, but what you are describing isn't DD play. Maybe Khabarovsk. DD play is positioning, preparation, stealth and lots of forethought before you do anything. Torpedo reload is way slower than gun reload. Even gunboats don't run around and shoot. Only knife fights are intense and fast. And not all DDs are good at it.

3,334 Random and is the operand word. I am still learning. And there is a lot to learn. I simply can carry my weight with a DD. And maybe carry a game or two. I suck in Cruisers and...maybe I don't suck that much in Battleships.

I m a noob and in no place to write a guide. There are many competent and experienced players around to do that. It is simply an extract from my note book lol that I keep when following classes. LOL

I am biased LOL I play Kamikaze I think all Kamikaze are Kamikaze. LOL It doesn't even make sense. LOL

There is an answer with a but here ANSWER Someone has to do the dirty job; BUT Someone has to use their brains. So, aggressive is good but aggressive with no forethought is bad. Unfortunately, big ships do turn around just with the smell of damage. Not all. But enough to create a pattern of avoiding conflict at the opening stages of a game. Most of the times both teams turn to a more passive retreat after the initial forward and create a stalemate around the cap. Sometimes, one or two ships as if under the influence of inertia continue forward and just sink offering nothing to their team. On the other hand, sometimes, one team pushes as a team. That team wins the game. The game is decided then and there. Unless you can initiate the push or thwart that push (if the enemy is doing a better job at it) the flank will collapse. Either to your favor or for the red team. And the remainder of the collapsing team will be between the pincers. And given the fact that the others are running like rabbits only the DD can react. Either you lead the push and make your team follow or you can delay the push of the enemy so that your remaining team regains some sort of composition. Or (with a bit of luck) do serious damage to one or two ships of the red team that will give your team an advantage. This is the dirty job. Not dying while doing the dirty job is where you use your brains. Tip No. 1: You can see the planes coming so try to avoid them; Tip No. 2: When you get in the cap the lil square rotates. It is the "right time" for a radar ship to light the cap; Tip No. 3: Ask you team to report when radared. Keep count. Radar is not infinite; Tip No. 4: Radar Ships hide behind islands. They are by definition stationary. Bait their radar. Wait till it times out. Flank. Torp. Cap is clear. (uhmmm...full disclosure...it is VERY EASY to write it as an advice and very hard to execute. You only have one try at it. Take advantage of the fact that if they are behind island cover they cant shoot. Watch out for the other ships that can shoot).

Can you believe that I could lose this battle? I had to kill everything in the West flank while my team was on the other side. Both our other DDs considered that they should die early. (Both from Battleships) Until really late in the game the red team was ahead on points and had three caps to one of ours. I caped one after sinking 5 ships west and killed their CV which was in the next cap which I caped as well. Killing the CV turned the tide around in points because it allowed us to have three caps and get back on points fast. Now this last kill puzzled me. Either the CV player really potatoed or went AFK -
Yes. Very true as with all new stuff. They try them out. Some fail and abandon them. Some do well and keep them. Until then however, the Kamikaze sisters and other torpedo boats have it rather hard. You really have to change your play-style or else they take you out in a flash. I played the French DDs. They can really take out most DDs in a knife fight one on one. You shouldn't go close and engage because of their reload boost and hard hitting guns. They are fast and agile and torping them isn't easy (I have taken two or three with torps but it was either situational or luck). And they can chase you down because of speed and gun you down. So you really need to play close to your cruisers. And they have to have good aim. However, they have high visibility so you need to spot them early game when you have the ability to focus fire on them. Chase them when they want to disengage so your cruisers can focus.

I don't really know. I play mostly my Kamikaze. (70% of my battles) I don't think we have an increase. Maybe your observation is coincidental. But I don't keep stats like that so I can't be sure. My feeling is that we have the same number of Kamikaze. What we have more in T5 is Siroco and Jaguar. A lot of them.

Well I noticed a severe FPS drop. And since something in the Lighting Engine has changed I attribute it to that and to the fact I have an old PC But Gents, don;t jump the OP so badly.

Yes, report him for stat shaming and abusive language so he gets chat banned as well Cherry on top of the cake -
whats that?

If they get triggered and feel intimidated and abused from a lil text box .... I m sorry for them. I don't think they will manage to survive the world out there. OOPS who pulled the trigger LOL (my workplace is rather explosive LOL)

@Cagliostro_chan First of all, you are a more experienced and better player than me. So, I 'm rather surprised to see that you answered by throwing the ball out of the field. Lets see what you answered. Can you adapt to DD unicums? or BB or CC for that matter? Well, in a sense you can. Learn how to play and get better at playing the game. Not being able to play against a very good player is absolutely LOGICAL. Unless, you want a game where skill and quality of play is not of importance. The following is anecdotal but the numbers stand. I STARTED playing DD after the CV rework. To be exact February 20, 2019. Since then I have more than 1,500 battles ONLY in DD. And a healthy 54% WR in DD. Which includes my learning battles. Either I am a genius or adaptation is possible. Now, I seriously doubt that I am a genius. So...yes you can adapt and modify your game play and you can get better. And to reply to your argument, you are not required to adapt playing vs unicums but playing vs the average player base. What was said was not a call for sympathy. It was a straight forward example of a ship that is in disadvantage vs the french DDs but with proper change (adaptation) of the game play it still can prevail and make the game a FUN and ENTERTAINING experience for anyone that chooses to play with this ship. Again, you missed the point. The point is not a plea for sympathy tokens. The point is that what you are required to do is to find a solution to a specific problem and make it work. Not to complain. I m sorry but this is a trollish statement trying to confuse rather than present an argument to the issue. So, it only deserves a trollish answer. Play only from Monday to Thursday.

Sorry for addressing you personally. I am actually using the quote to say what I want to all. Now, I think we played around with this word "infestation" quite a lot. It's not nice. As if DDs or any other class are a pest. There is no infestation. Each one of us has many ships in their port. And we all have a feeling of the prevailing meta. Chose the ships that you feel will give you the best game experience. And on a second note, both teams have the same composition. So, I don't understand the problem. Well, actually I do. BBs don't like their counter, DDs don't like their counter, CVs don't like their counter and so on and so forth. I think this is childish. As in the example shown above with 6 DDs per team, the solution is to play accordingly. But I guess that people do not wish to get out of their way and think of a solution for every given problem. They want to follow what they know and stay within the confines of their habits. So the word adapt that was so often used during the CV rework became a curse. Here is an example. My beloved ship, the Kamikaze, is facing a dire situation with all these new french DDs. I have no guns. They do. They are agile and fast and I can't really torp them. They are faster than me and can outrun me and shoot me dead very easy. They don't smoke up for me to torp them in their smoke. In theory my weapons are quite weak against them. Well...I didn't complain. I just changed my game play and I do just fine. They are not a pest. They are one more challenge. And I like it. I would prefer threads titled "How do you play against such and such ships?" instead of "Such and such ships are a pest" But I guess I m just a noob and a romantic idiot.

That's why I had to kill it. She was bothering my friendly BBs that I as a honorable DD player have vowed to protect.
-
Infestation? what infestation? LOL I will admit that this game was fun for no one. (EDIT: it was fun for me LOL) DDs had to dodge friendly torps, try not to torp friendlies, did not know when they will be detected as DDs popped out from everywhere. Cruisers ... uhm...they died fast. BBs? LOL I think they surrendered immediately. It was Epicenter LOL
