What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Saltface replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
Adventures in Rankland I ll start easy. A good game with the Kitakaze that gave me back Rank 10. And a new record damage with the Kita. And now my new book. Saving a Star Chapter #1 - When they all want to hide I was in the Fletcher. All of my team was hiding. I mean really avoiding battle. I tried to cap A and got jumped by two DDs. I had a knife fight with both. Torped both. and shot both. Wiggled like a working girl with a wooden leg. They each got one of my torps. If only they got two I d have a double strike. Anyway, I went to pay a visit to Davy Jones. My team continued to hide and at the end they tried to shoot at something they could not see. I was looking at the game and nothing red was on the map. Once a red popped up one green died. I didn't believe it. But I saved a star. with 24K damage !! That's an achievement. Chapter #2 - When the noob prevails The game started well. We got two of the three caps. We hadn't lost a ship and we had taken their Jean Bart out. But...all the team had gathered around C and I had capped A and was asking for help. I knew I could hold the cap for a while but... Then, all of a sudden, our Missouri and our Z left C that was being pushed by enemy Z and a Soyuz to chase up to the end of the map a Kitakaze. Of course we lose our Yugumo to the Z, they push and I turn to help. I stop the Z once and the Yugumo once more. I torp the Soyuz. But, your friendly noob succumed under fire from the Z the Yugumo and the Saint Louis that had just joined the fun. I couldn't help myself. I exploded. I called (oh what shame on me) the Missouri and the Z bad players. My exact words. And told them they are the reason we lost. And the Missouri told me that we lost because I am a noob. I thought that for the Missouri to be so mouthy and not to understand that he blundered he must be a total potato. I look up his stats and what do I see? We snatched defeat out of the jaws of victory. But, the noob always prevails...Guess who saved a star? It hurts less. I assure you. -
Alaska has it. Something is confusing here. The ship is a heavy cruiser, or, a battle cruiser or what you want to call it. She is faster than a speeding Montana. She is more powerful than the broadside of a Baltimore. Able to delete cruisers in a single salvo. She has a very large hit point pool of 60,800hp. Solid armor layout with good citadel protection and some HE immunity. Armed with nine enormous (for a cruiser) 305mm guns with solid alpha strike. Improved auto-ricochet angles on her AP shells. Strong anti-aircraft firepower, especially at medium ranges. This is what Alaska is. She is a Battle Cruiser. If you don't want a battle cruiser get something else. I think this is becoming childish. You have all sorts of cruisers in your port. Play those.
-
How come you played Alaska with a significant higher success than your average success? Specially in Cruisers. I don't understand why you want to have Des Moines (a TX cruiser) guns and a Battleships armor. And you want it on a T IX cruiser. Maybe you don't like the ship because it does not fit your playstyle. But to call for a buff? I think you exaggerate.
-
As I want to play the Alaska can you please tell me why it needs a buff? I was under the impression it is a powerful ship.

@Moderators This is a provoking and instigating thread (as in "provocacia"). Where there is no problem a problem is created. Power creep is an issue but it affects ships as per their chronological introduction to the game. Newer ships and lines tend to be more strong or more attractive. The OP tries to present power creep associated with sexism and racism. Under the false premises of "power crept" IJN boats, with unfounded examples (Azuma, Ibuki, both ships that the OP does not own or play), politics, gender and racism are introduced as issues to be debated on the forum. Terms like "segregation", "brother special captains" and "white males" have found their way into the text with no relation whatsoever to the context of the game. A preface to instigate a racially charged, gender oriented, and political in nature debate that will derail the thread and create a very bad environment that will be later very difficult to contain. @Forumites, kindly abstain from feeding the fire with oil.

Dear @HMS_Kilinowski, dear All, Why people don't perform? This is the actual question. As people that have sub 40% WR in our game are considered non-performers. For reasons of simplicity we can attribute non-performance to three reasons: 1. They don't know how to perform; 2. They don't want to perform; 3. They can't perform. I am confident that we can map all cases in the above three categories. The first one is easy to rectify. Point these people to the right direction and they will get better. Others faster than others, all depending on each ones abilities and environment. For this first category it is not a question of a non competitive or non performing mindset. It is just a lack of proper information and learning tools. How to address the matter should be of serious concern for all of us. How to help our co-players get better at the game is important. The better they get the higher quality of game experience for all of us. The better the player base the better the game. This case is out of the scope of this thread. So lets move on to the third category. People that cannot perform irrespective of their will to perform. This one is straightforward. And the answer is easy. Since this game is not "exclusive" and it is "inclusive", to use the mumbo jumbo post modern terminology, we have to accept the fact that some of us cannot perform and that's the end of story. And to the core of the thread lies the group of our co-players that can but don't try or don't care to perform. There are a multitude of reasons. And I see no benefit in analyzing each and every one of them. As this is entertainment, why and how people entertain themselves cannot and should not be the decision of anyone except the individual. However, since it is a team game, the performance of the people that do not wish or do not care to perform influences the entertainment value of the ones that wish to perform. The relationship is unidirectional. Non performers influence negatively performers, while the opposite does not happen. I could stretch (emphasis on the word stretch) it a bit and claim that a paying player is negatively affected having his money returns diminished by non performers. Why? Simply because he is on the losing team (due to players that don't want to perform) resulting in less XP and less Credits, therefore, slower progress. Progress that he paid for. Given the aforementioned, I would propose that the discussion should include the "how to structure the game?" question. Structure it in such a way that all three categories get their perceived entertainment value. Here comes the added complexity. The game is a business. The people that run it have to see a return on their investment. The equation is now multiparametric. How to structure the game so that the business end is satisfied and all get their perceived entertainment value out of it is a heck of a hard task. Regards Saltface

Mate you are right. I did not post the replay and I failed to mention that: 1. I torped him point blank, he did not move he was stationary. 2. His aircraft did not fly. 3. I sailed all through the Cap he was in. He should have noticed that. All 5.4 Km of my concealment range. He should have noticed that. So, either a total potato that got deplaned (could explain that he had no planes up) or he was AFK. The replay is uploaded to: https://replayswows.com/replay/download/58899 Have a look. I tend to believe he was AFK -

I ll spam the thread with this nice story. Fletcher in Ranked. Team composition screen goes up and I see a one DD per side one Radar ship per side and four BBs per team game. "Hmmmm....they have a Mogador." I said to myself. "I think I can handle this one...Its mine" I continued, to myself obviously. "I hope our Kronshtadt has good timing with his radar" I mumbled...to myself again. He did !! He popped it up the right moment. The Mogador (a fellow Greek, I 'm sorry but he was on the wrong team) gets spotted, and puts his speed to work to get out of radar range. Which he does. He got out of sight. But the noob in the Fletcher got a glimpse on him. And scratched mentally his head and said...(to myself don't forget) "I ll torp you compadre and you will sink cos I know what you are doing". He did !! As the battle went on and my team was on the east flank we lost A cap and our Bart has sunk. He valiantly denied to follow the lemming train behind me and tried to keep the reds off A. Pity, he was a good boy. We are now down in points but ahead on ships. So I turn to A and find a fine good looking Iowa in there. Nice big cannons. Sailing aft and ahead to confuse anyone that might lay eyes on her magnificence. Fierce and dominating she was and...I said (to myself and I know I have to have this thing looked at) "you will sink cos I need this star" She did !! I torped, flooded and burnt her. I took her for 80K Tadahh...I did Rank 9 and got my steel. I didn't come first. George Orwell with 1984 points came first compared to my WW II 1940 points. I said to myself "I can sink em but damn, I can't take a star from them" The dialogues The Torps The Battle DHL and FedX to Davy Jones -

Interesting ranked season. My first games in the Kitakaze. I think I'm going to like her. On a technical note, I think Kitakaze and Benham can have a good ranked season. Many BBs (Missouri Jean Bart) and DDs (Kita Benham). Not so many cruisers (Alaska) but all with radar as expected. What was also interesting is how some players behave. Our Musashi wanted to fornicate with all DD player's mothers. 3 of us. Wow, he must be deprived or have a very strong drive and one is not enough. Obviously he reported us. I wonder why? Maybe because we didn't put in a good word about him to our mothers? Who knows? Maybe because all DD's ended up higher than him? Strange people. Anyway. Rank 10. A few good games and this one the best. For first Star in Rank 10. 90K and High Caliber. Not bad. -
Title: Progression in the Game Strategy The Jist of the Matter: Don't rush the tiers and don't free XP your progress How to progress: Step 1: Pick a ship line, read and learn all you can about it. Get that ship. Your ship is what we call "stock" - meaning it has some upgrades that you haven't researched and installed on it. It is less powerful hence in disadvantage compared with other same ships that have these upgrades. You need to upgrade it to its full potential. Step 2: Take the ship in Co Op battles until you get the necessary XP and credits to fully upgrade your ship. Two birds with one blow. You got somewhat accustomed to your ship and got the feeling of it and you have upgraded it. Give it a few more rounds in Co Op. Now you can move on to Random Battles if you so wish and play on that same ship until you have the credits and XP to get the next one in that line (or pick another class and line even though I would suggest you go up to T IV before you change). Repeat this until you reach T5. Don't use shortcuts (i.e. economic bonus signals). Don't play only one class or nation. Play all classes and nations even if you don't like them. It is imperative that you have a feeling of the strengths and weaknesses of your opponents. Once you have fully researched 3 classes of 3 nations up to T5 most probably you have the basic knowledge. Now do what you want. P.S. - Don't be afraid to ask for help. Everybody started out being a novice player. Novice players are expected and encouraged to ask for help. Don't complain or whine. It doesn't reflect nice on you. It actually discourages others from helping you. Epilogue: It is a beautiful game. Don't rush it. It takes time to understand it and even more time to master it. You are going to enjoy it.

Games like this make me feel the need to apologize for debating forumites for toxicity against bad players. I don't think I ll be toxic against them but will not defend. LOL Well, lol, until the idiot in me kicks in again. The team that made the less errors won. Lose all four caps, be down in points almost all game, lose most of your ships, yet the other team makes more mistakes...and you win. https://replayswows.com/replay/download/59263 I post the replay, but be warned. It hurts. Our Duke played well. I 'm just wondering what the enemy team was saying in chat when their CV and a DD just sailed up the middle channel. My team said nothing when our DD did the same at game start. -
Did WG secretly "buff" smoke concealed ships?
Saltface replied to DFens_666's topic in General Discussion
The things we know for sure are that: 1. They changed the lighting engine 2. A big drop in FPS has been noticed by many players (incl. me) So it wouldn't be strange if the changes they made affected the rendering of shots I will try and observe and see if this is also on my side EDIT: it affected the rendering of smoke of funnels. Or at least on my side it did. -

T10 must play with T10. End of the story.
Saltface replied to AlphaBaboon's topic in General Discussion
TBH I dislike T VIII. I prefer T IX. Better rewards and the DDs in T IX are on an equal step with their T X counterparts if not better (Fletcher? Tashkend? Benham?) However, as many T VIII ships are in a battle there are equal T VIII on the other side. As it was said earlier in this thread, you have to adjust your game play and take up a more support role. What is the problem of a T VIII radar ship? What hinders it to perform? Whats wrong with the Asashio or the Benson? It is harder, you need to adapt your game play and you will be fine. Grind, get the XP go to T IX and end of story. Anyway, I ll give a cookie to anyone that complains about the opposite. "Damn, I m a T VIII and I always get in the T VI battles. Ain't fair coz my gains are smaller." LOL LOL LOL or "I Kill em very fast and I don't feel competitive" -
more more more I m kidding but I would welcome if they undid the flooding nerf

I have been told that out of 10 games I will win 3 no matter what I do, I will lose 3 no matter what I do and I can influence 4 with my play. This statement in corroborated by statistics. WR is between 40 and 60. Everything bellow or above is an outlier. So, concerning the games that we claim our team are utter potatoes, well, these are the 3 out of 10 that we will lose no matter what. Equally, we all had games that we underperformed and ended up with a victory. Conclusion, don't get so very excited. Enjoy the game. Get better at your game. Best advise I read here are: @Migantium_Mashum - I paraphrase - Give your significant other some time @Molly_Delaney - a nice glass of whiskey Any other proposition would be illegal LOL P.S. unless we are complaining we don't get carried as much as we would like

Thank you making me clarify. I never proposed to trade one capital ship for three minutes of cap time. I strongly believe in the "don't die" dogma. I simply stressed the point advantage (and the equivalence) of caps. I agree with you that if I have the superiority in numbers I am better off. What I wanted to stress is that caps are valuable. They bring points. And points win the game when time is up. Also, I don't see major differences between what you said and what I said. What needed to be clarified from my side is the DON'T DIE dogma. I am not a proponent of trading ships for caps. What I stressed and you agreed is that you should not leave caps uncontested. You made it more clear by saying that you have to make the red team pay with a lot of HP taking a cap from you. Thank you for taking the time to look at my stats. They are awful. Also, thank you for your compliments concerning my intelligence and writing skills. I claim I am a noob. I acknowledge that most players are better than me. I can carry my own weight and maybe a game or two in DDs. I don't have the experience of most accomplished players. This does not invalidate an argument. Every argument stands on its own merit. Irrespective of who says it. So, if my arguments are wrong, by all means point the errors out. You will find out that I will be the first to stand corrected and admit that something I said is wrong. I learn from my errors. But, please don't point out my stats. My argument is that you should never let the red team take the caps uncontested. I never proposed to trade my ships for caps and I thank you for making me clarify. My text was lacking in that respect. You see in my strategic analysis of Neighbors we say the same thing. And, I happily clarify that you should not trade ships for caps. I think my statement talks about map control and how the geography influences the tactical analysis. In hope that I have clarified any ambivalence and vagueness Regards Saltface
