  1. AA tracers don't work in smoke. They are scattered all over the smoke area and they visualize mid air. This is a recent (somewhat change) a few patches ago. It's not the tracers that give your position away. It is the experience of the CV player to "feel" where you are.
  2. 1. Early Match -CV's will actually try (not fervently) to locate DDs- Turn off your AA. <--- If I forgot to tell you...turn off your AA. Avoid being spotted at all cost. Don't go where the CV is going. Don't go directly to a cap. (you can always cap later if you are alive, if you are dead the cap will flip and all your valiant and brave sacrifice is dog poop) You can contest caps by just being there, no one stays in a cap while spotted by you and being shot at by your team mates. You should Spot - and Torp Spam - If you find the enemy DD try to get it killed. Pick your fights, don't let the fights pick you. The value of a DD in a team increases with the progress of time. 2. Mid Match -Most CV's will not try to actively locate DDs- Avoid the CV planes path. CVs are damage hunters (it's the nature of the class, they are in a damage race with the opponent CV). In other words don't be where the planes are going to fly to go strike your teammates. Don't be isolated. If the red team feels you as a thorn on their flanks they will ping the map, turn their guns and ask the CV to spot you. If you see TB or Bombers most probably the CV is not actively seeking you out. Still, avoid detection. Either smoke up (before you get spotted), no decent CV player will stay to wait for your smoke to dissipate (see note about damage race). From within smoke you may turn your AA on but I doubt the usefulness - well if CV had dropped fighters you might get some. If you get spotted try as hard as possible to relocate. Avoid being where they would expect you to be. Mid Match you can do damage with torps and guns (well not so much with the IJN torp boats you play till now). Guns should be used for targets of opportunity not as a damage farming exercise. If your flank is folding try to delay the red team from advancing (torp spamming). If your flank is doing well and pushing, screen for torps and spot. The value of your DD in game has increased. 3. Late Match -CVs will prioritize the DD depending on the threat it poses to the CV itself rather than the threat it poses to the red team- Now a DD is of extreme value. You can win your team the match. Set up torp runs. Deny caps. Get caps. SPOT. Help kill anything your team mates are focus firing on. Gun down anything of very low health. Now that the teams have thinned out you have more or less a free reign on the playing field. If spotted by a CV make the CV lose time trying to hit you. The more the CV hunts you the less it damages your team mates (their AA defenses have thinned down due to wear and tear). Flip the caps, take on BBs and kill them with torp runs (you can even rush them depending on the situation), harass Cruisers or spot them and have them killed and if a red DD is still in the game go find it and get it killed. General Notes - AA should be turned off during the game. Don't turn it on; - Don't smoke up and blind your team; If you provide a smoke screen for your team mates do the spotting; - Don't smoke up and stay in your smoke - you are a torpedo magnet; - a DD is a support ship not a capital ship - Act like one; - Don't die - Did I mention don't die? The value of the DD is immense if still in the game. Just being there is an asset to your team. - A DD's purpose in the game is to WIN not farm damage. - If you have the opportunity to go for their CV better avoid it unless it will guarantee the game for your team. Never try to find it and kill it. Did I mention never try and find and kill a CV? The above is not a primer. They are basic thoughts that I have put down, but I guess they only give a broad picture of how a DD should be played. Have in mind that every situation has its own course of action. Experience will give you that. DDs are a hard class to play. But I love them. Be well and enjoy the game.
  3. I agree with all you wrote. However, I would like to point out that you should respect yourself more than you respect the others. You carry the mindless fools around game after game not for the fools' sake. But for your own sake.

    penaltys within battles

The system is fine. And the penalty is minimal. A few HP and XP for bumping into someone. And most of the time both are at fault. Take into account the following: No right-of-way A commonly held misconception concerning the rules of marine navigation is that by following specific rules, a vessel can gain certain rights of way over other vessels. No vessel ever has absolute "right of way" over other vessels. Rather, there can be a "give way" (burdened) vessel and a "stand on" (privileged) vessel, or there may be two give way vessels with no stand on vessel. A stand on vessel does not have an absolute right of way over any give way vessel, and is not free to maneuver however it wishes, but is obliged to keep a constant course and speed (so as to help the give way vessel in determining a safe course). Furthermore, a stand on vessel may still be obliged (under Rule 2 and Rule 17) to give way, in particular when a situation has arisen where a collision can no longer be avoided by actions of the give way vessel alone. For example, two power-driven vessels approaching each other head-to-head, are both deemed to be "give way" and both are required to alter course so as to avoid colliding with the other. Neither vessel has "right of way". If you want to learn more: https://www.jag.navy.mil/distrib/instructions/COLREG-1972.pdf A good rule of thumb is if we all maneuver to cross any other vessel on our starboard side astern (behind). Not her bow. As in the first image below. A give-way vessel is always the vessel to your port side. See second image. Or to put it in another way: If you see red you must give way. Look at the third image
  5. NO Don't go back to port. Stay and play the game. Going back to port is the most disrespectful thing you could do. How many times you have been on the good team? Statistically the same. Just uninstall the monitor. It doesn't help you at all.

    What If - S2E1

What If? (Season 2 Episode 1) Some of you might remember my What If threads from a year ago. That was Season 1. Now, more experienced in the intricacies of the Forum, I decided to provoke you once again. Be mindful though, this second season is more well thought and it may seem trollish upon first reading but there is a bit of background to it. And here starts Season 2 of the What If successful series from a year back (*grin) So give it a good reading and a good thinking. After all, thinking is free. Isn't it? What if once a player reaches T10 in a line, his ships T1 to T4 (incl.) get refunded at 50% and are available to them only for CoOp? T1 - T4 is available for lines one grinds or regrinds. MHO is: 1. We avoid a certain amount of Seal Clubbing™©® that will benefit the new players and the game; 2. We will avoid the infestation of CVs (not OP™©®) and T5 will become fun again so spreadsheet will be right for once; 3. Some players might decide not to go to T10 so their precious SCM (Seal Clubbing Machines) Mod 1 MK 3 Ver.2 Rev.4 will remain available to them. Not bad we don't need everybody in T10; 4. For the same reasons as in 3 above, some players might delay their progress a tad, and progress the tiers slower. Good, we need players in mid tiers and those players will have the opportunity to learn the game better. All in all I find it an idea worth of being exposed to public scrutiny. Waiting for your feedback, critical remarks and opinions. Regards Saltface P.S. Troll the thread and I ll troll you back Should Mssrs. @MrConway and Mr. @Crysantos (I added a Mr. it was so missing...) wish to pop in and share their opinions we would be most grateful.

    What If - S2E1

You still concentrate on my stats. I will repeat the same question which you haven't answered. Are they relevant with the proposal I made? Instead you set up a poor attempt to ad hominem* the OP by stating: he plays the Kamikaze which is an: but his narrative is : I could answer back saying that I have only played DDs after the rework and I m doing rather well, so my expeditions are not ruined by CVs, or that I have less than 100 battles after August 2019 in the Kami, but I wonder if there would be any purpose to this as you have no arguments concerning the thread, instead, you just think you found something to say about the OP to discredit him for some reason and you stick to that. So, now I ll go sealclubbing to enjoy my Isokaze and you can follow my stats and watch my low tier games increase, as this is what you enjoy more than having a proper conversation on the topic I started. *Ad hominem (Latin for "to the person"), short for argumentum ad hominem, typically refers to a fallacious argumentative strategy whereby genuine discussion of the topic at hand is avoided by instead attacking the character, motive, or other attribute of the person making the argument, or persons associated with the argument, rather than attacking the substance of the argument itself.

T6 to T10 (5 Tiers) But what is the purpose of the counting of my battles? What is it to prove? I made a What if scenario. And the attention is now on my battles. Which is irrelevant. Are my battles an argument against the what if scenario I suggested?

    Defense of Naval Station Newport

Newport is hard to play because most players don't know how to play it. Raptor is less hard but due to the random nature of the red spawns it is more unpredictable. Aegis and Whale are easy five stars. The point is that Both Raptor and Newport have bugs. However, poor Narai has been removed instead. And...LOL...bugs are in favor of the Bots. You see...the red ships aren't bugged so as not to shoot at you. They are unicum at aiming and dodging torps, LOL, not to mention focus firing. LOL Wish my teams in random were that good sometimes. The bug is in the support ships that are part of the scenario. The do crazy things that can drive the game to a failure. But, lets quit this discussion as I am afraid they will remove totaly the operations and they will say "You asked for it"

    What If - S2E1

@NothingButTheRain Well, you have asked for it and you will get it. (the answer) You are trying to show that I am a T5 player (which I am) and that I have played a lot the Kamikaze (which is also true). What you patently failed to see is that I have stopped playing regularly the Kamikaze long time ago. On this forum I asked for help to learn to play DDs (AFTER THE REWORK) I got help and I started playing the Kamikaze. And I played more than 1,000 battles with it. And I did well with it. I also managed to get the 63rd best damage record of all times with her. And now I don't play her as much as I 'd like any more (sadly coz I really love that ship). I play as you can see other DDs of higher tiers as I am a DD main. And to be honest I don't do many randoms the last 6 months as I play almost exclusively Clan Wars. As you can see I have about another 1,000 battles on higher tier DDs. So, in brief, I started playing WoWs 15 months ago. I started playing BBs and Cruisers and I did 842 battles with Cruisers and 827 Battles with BBs (German line almost exclusively). These are my first battles in WoWs. (approx 1,700 battles) Then I picked up DD play. I did 1,000 battles with the Kamikaze and then went on.(counter is up to 2,700 battles) And...damn this killed your cheap narrative....another 1,000 battles in top tier DDs. (counter 3,700) Just go check how many Randoms I have. (I ll not tire myself anymore to copy paste from the profiles just to answer your malicious effort to derail my topic) (All above can be verified easily but you was so hasty to discredit the thread that you didn't put the basic effort to read a bit more and do proper research) I am sure you can find it as it is the same place where you investigated me. Now, my precious little sunshine, I think that you should read better the opening post where I said don't troll coz I ll troll you back. Answer on the subject of the post because you are clearly off topic and what you thought that you found is nothing more than the failed attempt of a second class troll to come in and try to derail the topic and get some brownie points. Grow up Lovingly and affectionately Saltface (the Kamikaze menace)

    What If - S2E1

You are right on this one. There are many iconic ships in low tiers. IMHO SC™ is not due to the fact that high tiers are not appealing. No one takes his Hosho for example to go to T4 because playing the Enterprise or the Hakuryu is not fun for them. Or take the Isokaze (lol) when he can play the Kamikaze (one tier higher) or the Gadja Mada, or Lightning, or Fletcher or Kitakaze etc etc. There are so many very nice, strong and fun ships in T5 to T10. I would be happy with T1 to T4 incl. to be restricted to 9 points. A friend of mine told me a story about a seasoned Wickes player that once entered a battle in T2 and first thing he chatted was "Which MF runs RPF on T2?" You would be surprised. I enter occasionally Low Tiers just to play a fun game without gimmicks and camping and, you know, the High Tier stuff. Then I just look at signals on other ships, I notice obviously 19 pointer captains (damn you need 14 points to run RPF and Concealment at the same time) and Premium consumables. That's easy to tell. Just check the time that has lapsed or the detection range or the reload speed. Then I check profiles and I see thousands of battles. Try running MMM and you will be surprised. So much purple. I avoid MMM when I play mid and high tiers. But, when I enter a low tier battle I do - and I just think how much self respect people have when they enter a low tier game with a ship that they have hundreds of battles in, running a 19 pointer and all signals and premium consumables. T5 is a perfect tier for no gimmick simple and fun games. You have Hydro, an occasional Radar (e.g. Atlanta, Indianapolis) you might meet a French DD with MBRB you have everything at a balanced level. Nations start showing their flavors in a way. You don't need to go down to T3 or T4. Yet many people go to T1 to T4 for other reasons. This doesn't help. As I said in my opening post you can be in low tiers for regrinding purposes and grinding a new line. (not to mention that I think most seasoned players will just FXP their way to T5). It is better to have fewer experienced players in low tiers than more. As a general comment, I claim that it is not only Hosho that is a problem. Can you imagine a 3 X Div from my clan in T4 or T3? How much fun would it be for inexperienced players? Or even if I took my Isokaze and spammed 6 torps every 37 seconds how fun would it be for the inexperienced players that are just learning how not to sail in a straight line? I think this is a very valid statement (with a small addition in bold typeface from me): Do you prefer to use your vast experience as an advantage over me for example, or, over someone that has 300 or 400 battles? Regards Saltface
  13. Well, LOL, it was a nice game, and nice seeing a familiar face...uhmmm... name LOL Until next time Be well

    Petition to Keep Narai

Narai-juku (奈良井宿, Narai-juku) was the thirty-fourth of the sixty-nine stations of the Nakasendō, as well as the second of eleven stations along the Kisoji.[1] It is located in the present-day city of Shiojiri, Nagano Prefecture, Japan.

Well, I have to admit that Ops came back rather fast. I would like to cross my fingers and hope the same thing will happen with Narai. P.S. I guess either WG realized that taking down OPS with this patch was far fetched or (I hope this is the case) we were too hasty to judge and jump on them.

Well, well, well......isn't it a nice coincidence? Sure it is. It seems that some people's job entails misguiding their audiences. Well, if it pays the bills. A note: There is no thread complaining about game crashes on the NA forum. P.S. Not one more penny from me

+ Raptor: Exactly the same bug. Please see E7 - E8 two ships that should be with the fleet. However, this OP is not being removed to be "fixed" as WG is only interested in the "experience" players enjoy from Narai not Raptor. The excuse presented to remove Narai is vacuous and void of truth.

    Petition to Keep Narai

Dear @Crysantos, thank you for the reply. I understand the bugs. They are present in other operations as well. Raptor is one. Actually, Narai is a major contributor of FXP, Commander XP and credits to the players. The general feeling (I am sure you read all the posts) is that WG would like to remove Narai for this reason alone. It would be most unfortunate if the feeling is proven to be true. I would ask of you to convey through the appropriate channels to the decision makers that the players might be appeased a great deal by such a gesture of good faith and good will by WG. After all, aren't we both (WG and Players) connected through the game we both love? I don't think that it would hurt to make such a gesture of good will. Nevertheless, I shall be waiting for its return as it is one of the aspects of the game that I really like. I would be so disappointed if at the end of the day this is one more void statement and business as usual. Thanking you once again for your kind attention to the matter and your reply. Warm regards Saltface

    Sincere suggestion for Narai

I was ready to make a primer for Narai For good measure, because it is a perfect farming OP and the better it is played by our teammates the more XP FXP CXP and credits we all earn. Looking for a nice map to enter as a background in Tactics I stumbled on this one. It is in Japanese but you can make out what it is about. Anyone that knows Narai will figure it out. And from what I saw it is optimized for the best Narai outcome
