Ah, I see. I'm normaly using DD's when shooting from smoke. I just checked my Kagero and it gets 2.5km detection when firing from smoke. I didn't realize that cruisers got such a huge gun bloom in smoke. Thanks for the explanation! One odd thing I just noticed: the Omaha (10 x 152 mm main guns) gets a 6.9 km bloom in smoke, while the Dallas (also 10 x 152 mm main guns) gets a 5.6 km bloom in smoke. That seems.... strange?

Thanks for all the tips. I decided to go IFHE first, then grap last stand. When the next round of free captain resets arive, I will remove EM and go for CE. I figure there is no use in spending doubloons on a reset now when it will be free soon and I might as well spent those points from lvl 11 to 14 in the meantime instead of saving them for CE.

Yes, they are... I should have thought of that earlier. Still, the wiki gives 5 skills a 2 star rating on row 2. Which one should I take instead of EM? AR? (and why does the wiki give a 2 star rating to EM for the Omaha?) But which skills in what order?

I already decided to keep my Charleston for that reason. Which makes me wonder: should I spent my coal on cheap ships, like the Campeltown, Yubari and Aigle? So I get better chances for high tier ships when opening crates.

I have a limited play time and tons fo T5 missions. I do know I can use premiums to retrain captains, but I'm already at T6 with the USA cruiser line with a 10 point captain, so I guess that would take a long time to retrain in the Charleston (I used to free captain retraining last week to retrain my captain for the T6 cruiser). Also, the reason why I was condering to sell the ship was the port slot, not the credits. Yes, I have decided to keep the Charleston for this reason. I might not use it often, but it might give me a better (read: hopefully a T5 or higher) ship from boxes. Thanks everybody for all the tips and advice!

Thanks for all the answers! I was considering to sell my Charleston. I got it for free for being a new player. But since there always are tons of missions to do and all of them require at least a T5 ship, I never use it. Which is quite a shame, because I loved playing the st. louis when going down the usa cruiser line and the Charleston is the same ship. But there is no incentive to play a T1 - T4 ship

Use the youtube video's to learn the tactics. But ignore the damage those players get. These are players that 1: are very, very good and 2: if they do get a 20k damage game, they do not upload those And the best trick is to just keep playing a class to learn it. I started on the USA cruiser line, had fun in the first 4 tiers, but oh boy, the T5 Omaha. It is just a floating citadel. And since I like to complete things, I decided to unlock both T6 USA cruisers. Took me a while to get all that xp, my friends kept laughing at my shouting about the Omaha when I was playing it. And now that I'm finally done with unlocking both T6 cruisers and I can sell my Omaha? I'm not going to. I love the ship now. I can stay alive in it, do good damage, be usefull to the team. I learned how to handly T7 BB's in my Omaha, hunt down destroyers, etc. All it takes is time.

It feels to me that a top X% of the CV captains are getting insane damage. While the average player struggles to get decent damage with it. I'm not sure how to fix this. Increasing AA / targeting time does indeed lower the damage from the top CV captains, but it also hits the average players hard.

It is easy to find: - Go to the tech tree - Click on a carrier - Open the Airplane window - Hover over the squadron you want info about. It will tell you the size of the squadron and the number of planes in each attack wave. And yes, if the Hosho launches torpedo bombers, it will send 3 planes in the air. Each attack run 1 will drop a torpedo and return home and the squadron will be 1 smaller. So first you will see 3 blocks, after the first attack run there will be 2 blocks left (unless somebody shoots them down ofcourse). Edit: the number of attacks vary per carrier, so you need to check the tier of carriers you face.

There is already a button for that? It's at the top of you port screen. It is called "Co-op battle" You still have CV's on your team, but not on the enemy team. It is not the same as random, but it is an option

I played a few matches in my Omaha and I was totally not impressed by T4 (and even T6) CV's. I just ignored them most of the time, sometimes took the effort to dodge a torp (easier then before, since it is only 2 torps now). But the damage of the low lvl CV's is just sad. I also played some games in my T4 and T6 JP CV's and I was struggling to get any hits at all (which is probably a L2P issue), but when after 3 failed torp runs you finally hit with a torp and it does 3k damage.... I also noticed that the lower tier CV's always end up on the bottom of the score board. I'm really wondering if this is a L2P issue or if the lower tier CV's are UP? (Note: I have not played high tier games since 0.8.0, so I have no experience how T8 and T10 CV's are)

Twice now I had an odd matchmaking happen: - Once I was in the Novik (T2 RU cruiser) in a division with a friend in a T3 ship. I expected to end up in a T2/T3 battle, but instead we got in a T3/T4 battle. With me being a lonely T2 ship. Although I guess not many T2 cruisers can claim to have sunk an enemey CV - A few days later, I got to the Bogatyr (T3 RU cruiser) in a division with a friend in a T4 ship, and we ended up in a T4 / T5 battle, again with me being the only T3 ship. Facing T5 BB's in a T3 cruiser is a bit scary! How is it possible that I ended up those times in a battle that was higher tier then I was?

Sorry, I don't have screenshots. But in the one where my T2 was in a T3/T4 match, there was indeed 1 other T2 cruiser on the enemy side. But on the battle where my T3 was in a T4/T5 match, the enemy did not have a T3 ship. I won't do it again, now that I know it can happen. Just was not aware of it, due to how lucky me and my friends have been so far. I should be ashamed for not knowing something that is not explained anywhere in the game? As for ruining the battle for other players: - In the match with my T2 cruiser, I pushed a flank with a T3 cruiser and we took out a DD, 2 enemy Cruisers and after that I found and killed the enemy CV. Sadly, our other flank got crushed and we lost, but I did not have anything to do with that. - In the match with my T3 cruiser, I went and hunted down 2 enemy DD's (T4 and T5), killed them both, then took out the enemy CV and burned down half an enemy New York (who somehow ignored me in order to shoot a friendly BB... no clue why he ignored the easy T3 kill). We won that battle with me having 3 kills. Please do not make assumptions

Ah, I thought that if you made a division with a T3 and T4, you would get matched in a T3 / T4 battle. That is what I usually see, when playing in a division with friends, where we are often 1 tier apart. Only in 2 battles did I get in a higher tier battle then expected. So to me it feels pretty rare that this happens?

As stated in the title, will Belle Époque containers be available in the arsenal later for coal? I did not get my collection completed and since I can't unlock the PEF (new player -> not enough countries unlocked to grind 4 mil credits), I can not do the PEF campaign that unlocks the new year containers that have the Belle Époque items. I got way too many doubles, so I either need 1 more item or 2 more doubles to complete the entire set.

I just remembered, there are sometimes boxes in the daily mission chain. Are those new year boxes or christmas boxes? If not new year boxes, I will buy a Belle Époque container. Thanks for the tip, I had not noticed how cheap they were.

I would guess this would be mostly torpedoes, from either DD's or CV's. This is most likely from new players still figuring out how these things work. In one of my first CV games I accidently sunk a DD, the next game I hit a cruiser with 2 torps. I did learn my lesson and never torped a friendly again on my CV, but yeah, these things can happen in the lower tier. This is always a risk, but it might be that they crashed when the game started. DD's usually do their own thing (asuming they are capping, spotting and harrassing) and the BB's at tier 3/4 are still learning where they need to be, so yes, some will snipe from the rear, some will rush in. This will improve at higher tiers. But even then, some games go perfect, some fall apart within minutes and some games are exciting and tense untill the last minute / shots / points.

Indeed. Just had a match in my october revolution where we had crappy spotting: I see a cruiser on the left side, I switch my turrets... wait for it... wait a bit more... almost the guns on target.... oh, he dissapears. Oh, look, a ship on the right side, turn the turrets.... turn... come on... almost there... oh, he is gone. Hey, the cruiser on the left side is spotted again... *sigh* There were questions in the chat if I was going to fight and shoot. I'm guessing that: a: I really need to play more BB's to learn how to sail these things b: maybe T5 is not the best place to learn this So yeah, lesson learned: do not buy a ship of a higher tier then you are familiar with. I'm going back to T3 BB's and learn how to use them. And that is also the reason I'm not going to buy the PEF: it will be a horrible experience for me, because I have no clue how to use a T6 BB, whether it is a good ship or not.
