Recruit Your Way to Cash Prizes with paysafecard
MarshalHaig replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
Call it 20 and the article mentions guaranteed bonus community tokens in addition to the draw for every qualifying recruit. That has not happened yet. -
Recruit Your Way to Cash Prizes with paysafecard
MarshalHaig replied to The_EURL_Guy's topic in News & Announcements
No, not even community tokens (WG kept giving me 3 days of premium for recruits hitting milestones, so I was expecting the guaranteed reward). -

Super Container Loot Thread [ topics merged ]
MarshalHaig replied to ThePurpleSmurf's topic in General Discussion
Opened 27 supercontainers from the anniversary: nearly half a year of premium, 4500 doubloons, 15k coal, lots of decent camos, and hundreds of special flags (some not shown here) - no ships or steel. Anyway, not disappointed with these drops! -
Why Scharnhorst 2 knots slower than Gneisenau?
MarshalHaig replied to CaravellaCaravan's topic in General Discussion
Tech tree Gneisenau is noticeably faster than premium Sharn, that’s what this entire thread is about... -
If I remember right, the only confirmed top tier premiums coming soon are: Tier 9 German destroyer ZH-6 (dockyard for new German destroyers) Tier 9 Italian battleship Marco Polo Tier 10 Commonwealth destroyer Vampire II Tier 10 US cruiser Austin (steel) So no obvious direct Alaska replacement a la Missouri Musashi.

Best thing brought to you by captain skils rework: 7 Thunderers in a game, anyone had more?
MarshalHaig replied to 22cm's topic in General Discussion
I wonder how many of these Thunderers are actually using deadeye, or if they just got it before its removal and are trying it out. I tried deadeye on Thunderer but it is so ridiculously accurate you can’t effectively deal with dodging enemies at range. -
Don’t know if it’s just me, but game performance has been down the drain since the update. I’ve had periods of extremely bad lag, especially for European torpedoes and when I start firing with a rapid fire dd.

You’re doing the right thing! Might be worth noting that there is protected matchmaking for players with sub-200 games (including coop I believe) when they play ships of tier 4 and below - in randoms, you only fight other very new players and bots (so it is mostly bots). Hence, you can use randoms as a learning ground for your lower tiers, although I would avoid playing Scharn in randoms until you are more comfortable (it is tier 7, so does not have protected matchmaking).
-
As a tier 9, Pommern will earn more xp and credits assuming that you play equally as well as Scharnhorst. You can earn Pommern for free by earning coal - a resource easiest to get through More Resources daily containers. I see that you have only played Coop so the reduced xp earning in coop will make the grind take longer unless you play a lot each day, but you will get there!
-
The tier 10s are special ships - effectively premiums but without a baked-in credit bonus. Tier 9s are true premiums but their permanent camouflage is better. What this means is that the tier 9s are better credit earners, but tier 10s earn more xp due to their tier, all being equal.

Is WG about to close World of Warships?
MarshalHaig replied to Wingoka's topic in General Discussion
The population is essentially stable, so they would be daft to shut the game down. Also, where have you seen the price hike? Even if this was the case, a price hike is exactly what you don’t do if you are going to end a game - you slash prices to get lots of people to spend right now as you don’t care about long-term profits anymore. -
Tech tree suggestion to increase player count in tier II-IV
MarshalHaig replied to Figment's topic in General Discussion
Very new players aren’t facing these long queues at low tier because they have protected matchmaking when playing below tier 5 so long as they have sub 200 games. Instead, they fight lots of bots, and their queue time is quick - this segregation of newbs and veterans returning to low tier is partially why the veteran queue timer is so long below tier 4. -
Does Strasbourg make Dunkerque OP?
MarshalHaig replied to ___V_E_N_O_M___'s topic in General Discussion
Dunkerque is a fine tier 6. Not too good, but not bad either. Following in a proud tradition of Christmas premiums, Strasbourg is on the weaker side owing to inconsistent guns, poor concealment and low survivability. I agree that Dunkerque is probably better tier for tier, though Strasbourg’s advantages make it arguably more interesting to play and there are better alternative tier 6 battleships anyway (Arizona for one). -
Recruiting station cashback gave a few doubloons, so splurged on a few more big containers and secured Arizona. Also, the armory free big gift gave me Poltava, which is nice! My results: ~35 Gifts 3x 300 doubloons 5 x 10k fxp Many flags, many camouflages (horrible results from these) 29 Big Gifts 4x 1k doubloons 13x camouflages 4x dragon flags 1x 7.5k coal 7x ships (Makarov, Prinz Eugen, Erich Loewenhardt, California, Saipan, Arizona, Poltava, in that order) 1 Mega Gift 1x dragon flags

Ranked Silver. Makes Bronze feel like kindergarten game
MarshalHaig replied to Puffin_'s topic in General Discussion
Is there anyway to go back to bronze for next sprint? Silver is intense! -
Advent calendar gave me Saipan (had Makarov and California from previous containers). Very pleased to get a tier 8 for free, but will remain a port queen for moral reasons!

Thanks for doing this! I would like to join the lottery.

Removal of the Kamikaze from the game.
MarshalHaig replied to MacFergus's topic in General Discussion
Nah, OP is wrong to suggest it should be removed. But Kamikaze is overtuned. -
Removal of the Kamikaze from the game.
MarshalHaig replied to MacFergus's topic in General Discussion
I'd take the smoke and torps for sure - maps such as Strait, Solomons or Ring have very limited viable island cover, so the smoke is very impactful. -
Removal of the Kamikaze from the game.
MarshalHaig replied to MacFergus's topic in General Discussion
Over a large sample, a 2% difference is substantial. And as mentioned, 9% is an upper bound for the impact of skill because Iwaki is better than Kuma due to smoke, so the 2% is likely larger. Hard to find a more appropriate estimate for skill - Kongo vs ARP is better, but I don't think the average ARP Kongo is as skilled as a Kami player so it would be too low. -
Removal of the Kamikaze from the game.
MarshalHaig replied to MacFergus's topic in General Discussion
Winrate (%) = 50 +/- ship quality +/- skill bias Kamikaze and Fujin win more because they were not earnable for free, so player quality is higher. 6 times as many games have been played in Kami R - more players have it, and accessibility leads to a dilution in performance. That's also why new lines tend to perform well to begin with, then fall to reasonable levels over time. My argument is that even if we control for a skill bias, the quality of Kamikaze is strongly positive as it is OP. I did by using the Iwaki as an extreme example where only alpha players, who are typically very experienced and very good, only boosted winrate 6% when compared to a comparable ship. Adjusting Kami's winrate by 6% skill left it still way above where it should be if balanced. -
Removal of the Kamikaze from the game.
MarshalHaig replied to MacFergus's topic in General Discussion
The differences are not minor, and even the lower bound 3% winrate difference (holding all else constant) is huge: 10 knots and 40% more alpha on torpedoes is really big.
