I have been absent for a long time. I basically left after the submarines came into play. I kinda feel like playing some warships again, but i dont feel like playing a stupid game with carriers and subs again. Has anything changed for the better ? Or is it only getting worse ? Can i play without those in game ? Or has a competitor stood up to make a similar game without all the nonsense maybe ?

I am not against spending some money in micro transaction games as long as they are not pay to win. If they are pay to win, i have a firm "not a penny" policy. This game didnt seem to be pay to win, some of the very best ships are tech tree ships. This game is merely pay to reduce your frustration. So i started paying just for premium time. When my patience and credits ran thin, i payed for a T9 premium ship, both to enable me to farm silver ranked for rewards and to farm some credits. Finally, i did the stupid thing, i bought the starter pack for he dockyard. I was playing very much at that time and figured it'd be a pretty cheap premium ship to add to the collection. I didn't really consider that i would be more busy with work a month later and i didn't consider the escalating requirements to get trough the build phases. Now at the last phase i find that i need to grind 42k base xp on 2 different ship classes. Thats about 70 games, which takes 20 hours. The once 42k for part 6 was already bad enough, this is twice as bad. This is not happening, i will be forced to buy one stage with dubloons or let the ship go. I feel screwed over, i let myself be lured into a trap. Principally, i should just quit the game right here and let the whole dockyard ship go. I will probably complete it though, the investment has been too big. I know this is exactly the trap. I am still falling for it and not letting go.... I vow however to play this game 100% free to play from here when get back from a the healthy break im about to take. Sorry for the rand, just let it be a warning for others not to fall into the traps of WG. Play this game free to play. A company that treats its players like this does not deserve our money. They have already gotten too much of mine.

Just press the play botton together on countdown. Very good chance youre in the same game. 50/50 you get to kill your mate though ;) -
About 2 weeks ago, i completed my yamamoto campain. Since then i am getting yamamoto collection items out of the daily boxes i open. I am about to complete the Halsey campain, will it replace the yamamoto items ? Should i complete that collection before completing the Halsey campain ? Or will i get both items from my containers after completing the Halsey one ?

This is exactly true. Missiles that almost flawlessly hit enemy ships over a 300 mile distance are also part of todays warfare, as are radars that have a 100% uptime and very large range. Satellite intel giving info on location even outside radar range. Intelligent missiles seeking out enemy ships even when you dont exactly know where they are. However, none of that is fun. The fun in this game is in aiming and dodging slow shells and playing with firing ranges and detection ranges. And as far as reality goes, carriers surely dont have airplane factories aboard to supply them with unlimited planes.

If you are still reading after what undoubtedly must be 6 pages of CV bashing: -Yes you get reported simply because you play CV and most people (rightly so) hate CVs. -In coop it doesn't matter what you do. The battle is always won anyways. If i were in coop i would personally like everyone else to do as little as possible so that i get a chance to kill things before everyone else kills them. That said, i imagine you still get downvoted for playing CV because it also brings a CV to the enemy team which will be spotting players. -In random battles, you start out making a judgement where most of your allies are going, that is more likely to be the pushing flank while the side with less allies is more likely to be the retreating flank. You want to bring your ship towards the pushing flank and park it behind an island that offers enough safety. From there, you are being the RTS player, your task is not to just pick the easiest targets for you to hit and farm damage, it is to understand the battlefield. See who is attacking whom and who is spotting whom. You help your team by spotting key enemy ships that are otherwise unspotted (often DDs and subs) and you focus your attacks on ships that are in dangerous (flanking) positions towards your allies. Dont forget to use your fighters for spotting too. DD's hate fighters being cast right on top of their heads. Dealing damage yourself is secondary. This map awareness should make it super easy for you to know when to move backwards because your hiding spot will no longer be safe. If you become really good at this map awareness thing, you will be a great help for your team. In contrast to the bazillion [edited] randomly pinging the map (whom also deserve my downvotes), you may also learn to give your team some solid advise and warnings every now and then. If you become a pro CV player like that, i think you may just get positive karma as more of your allies will be giving you +1 compared to your enemies giving you -1. That said, others can probably explain you in more detail, i'm a total CV noob myself. So i only speak from the experience of what i hope my allied CV is doing (besides committing seppuku for the sin of causing there to be a CV on the enemy team as well)

Lets get more into the details of why this is horrible. (or why it is not) I think it is horrible because: -They are way OP and thus too important to fight over. Being a relative new player i always liked the shima line DD's where you remain unseen the whole game, trying to surprise some suckers into a taking a full volley of your torps. As i got more experience i already started to feel like im a liability to the team playing these because they suck at fighting other DD's and fighting over objectives. Hence i don't play them in ranked. Objectives now have become so important that i probably wont ever play these ships again. The balance of the game is disturbed and not in a good way because it helps ships that were already on top of the balance picture: gunboat DDs -In a 12 ship game, the objectives are about as strong as having an extra ship in the team. Hence their importance is too big. It seems to me the DD's should fight to the death over them when they first spawn. Thats not fun. Espescially in randoms where the amount of people actually supporting the DD's is also very random. -I think it leads to more of a snowball effect and less battles that are exciting to the end.

Brawl shows how unbalanced DDs are without CV in play
Alchemist79 replied to XDukenukemX's topic in General Discussion
Well, you can limit the CV's number of attacks per flight to 1. Maybe even zero if you stay together. But that still doesn't stop the CV, and it destroys the rest of the game. Staying together means, no flanking, no spotting, no capping, no nothing. -
Brawl shows how unbalanced DDs are without CV in play
Alchemist79 replied to XDukenukemX's topic in General Discussion
That features CV's though. Those seem to be the ones that overrule the whole RPS factor. Thats like some kids playing RPS on the schoolyard and a 4th kid throwing real rocks at them from a rooftop. Edit: or someone making a nice graph like the post below here and a CV player crumpling at and throwing it in the bin saying "You cant even hit me, i win" -
Brawl shows how unbalanced DDs are without CV in play
Alchemist79 replied to XDukenukemX's topic in General Discussion
It may not be strictly so. RPS is a simple "game" and this is a complicated game. So yes it is not strictly so. And yes, i have won 1v1s with my cruiser against a battleship if i get a chance to kite away and stay at range. I also sometimes manage to torp a cruiser with my DD. And espescially with my secondaries BB's, i dont really fear DD's at all. But generally it does have a pretty strong RPS factor and a whole team of single ship type vs single ship type would i think 99% be won according to RPS rules. Secondary BB's might actually be the exception that would dominate everything. -
Now i just started on the Vladivostok. I have had just a few games in it and i was very pleasantly surprised. I was citadeling T9 BB's properly and it didn't even seem to take a lot of damage in return (while usually outtiered BB's feel like very slow cruisers that get deleted so easily). I know the Kremlin is supposed to be a tank ship, so it's not so surprising that this is too. However, if i look at the armor layout of the Vladi, Sov. Soyuz and kremlin, it seems the sov. Soyuz is the odd one out. Their citadels are all properly protected from the sides, However, the Vladi and Kremlin each have over 200mm total armor on top of their citadel while the soyuz only has 110 total. Is this ship actually going to feel like an upgrade ? I ask this because while i do want to grind my tech tree ships in ranked, i do want to be playing the best ships i can. I have a list of trees that are currently T7-T8 where i could spend some free XP to skip a ship or 2 and get the T9 so i have the best ship for this ranked season. The candidates lines are Yamato, Kremlin, Schlieffen, Petro, Nevsky. So the question is: Will i like the sov. soyuz or would i regret skipping it and possibly even do better in ranked with the vladivostok? (which of course also offers the advantage of putting a T8 in the enemy team) Which of the other mentioned trees would be best to bring to Ranked at tier 9 ? (Or tier 8 if the tier 8 is a more excellent ship in the line) No need to tell me im too noob for ranked and shouldn't be grinding my ships in ranked. ;) Sure im probably not the best player on the planet (but not the worst either) but i do have some trees ground to T10 already. (which is why some probably obvious candidates are not listed). As for captains: I have a 17 point german captain that is statted for my pommern. Secondaries but no IFHE. I have almost the coal to buy Kuznetsov for my kremlin or cruiser line. (but he will start out at a sad 10 points). I have Yamamoto at 16 points on my Yamato line.

Brawl shows how unbalanced DDs are without CV in play
Alchemist79 replied to XDukenukemX's topic in General Discussion
Sorry if it has been discussed, not read the whole topic, replying to OP: You say DDs are OP ? Bring a team with only DD's and ill bring a team with (radar) cruisers. You think cruisers are OP ? Ill bring more BB's. You think BB's are OP ? Ill bring DD's. The 3 base classes are self balancing by thier paper-rock-scissors nature. Every team needs a composition of each ship type and a composition heavy in 1 ship type will lose to a composition heavy in its counter. Surely brawls may be imbalanced because comps are not balanced. Thats not the fault of any particular ship type though. -
Dear Wargaming. Please nerf smokescreen.
Alchemist79 replied to DaSprengmeista's topic in General Discussion
But i'm playing that CV for my own e-boner, not others' in my team ! -
A little of topic, but im having mental images of you firing 268 shells at the ocean surface in utter frustration not knowing where that sub is :D

Or what i see way to few people do, move right into the smoke. -

Alchemist79 replied to DaSprengmeista's topic in General Discussion
This is of course a bunch of nonsense. I would however like it if your shells don't have double dispersion when shooting at a ship in smoke. It should imo be a little easier to hit them if you know where they are. -
Started playing WoWS, bought these premiums

What a nice troll tread :) -
I just grinded and reached the Des Moines. My captain 17 points has 3 available points and i intent to give radio location a try when when i get another. I dont yet know if i will like it, but i think i should at least try it i can restat later. But while giving it a try, it would be good to first hear some advice on how to use it to the best effect. Of course good reasoning why i should or should not use it is welcome to, but i intent to give it a try anyway. my logic sais it is for finding DDs and getting information to better know when to radar as well as knowing where the torps will come from. Please expand my understanding and tell me all your little tricks how you use RL.
-
Why would i have it backwards ? My reasoning is: It tells you where a ship is that you otherwise didnt know is there. Similarly, it gives away your rough location to skilled (or we should say non brain-dead) enemies. DDs are ships you otherwise wouldn't know are there. Cruisers are not, BB's are absolutely not. So its good to use against DD's, hence to use it on DD hunters, which are (radar) cruisers. Since it also gives away your presence, that downside is a downside only on DD's. Espescially on torp DDs. Of course i can understand that gunboats use it as they are hunting for other DD's. But using it on a torp DD seems like idiocy to me. Making torp hits on unseen ships, will i guess i gotto try that. Still, i don't feel like i would ever do anything that gives away info about my presence on a shima. Especially not if i also pay 4 points for the privilege
-
Yes, that is why i dont understand it seems to be used primarily on DDs. With those its really a downside when they know what general area they are radio located from. In a cruiser while i might be able to go dark, shoot from cover etc, my location will usually not really be a secret anyways. I have even seen it used on shima's several times. Thats the one ship line i try to never ever be spotted and have it be a total mystery where i'm at. So silly to use RL on that imo.

What nerf to radar is coming ? What makes it good in high level clan battle that does not work for lower level games ?
-
Yay, today i got downvoted for being the only player in the (ranked) team doing anything useful :D I move my cruiser close to cap, i kill a DD, BB attacks me, i kite away from it, burning it from full hp to 0 as it chases me. By the time i killed the BB, my entire team is dead. The 2 enemy ships i killed are their only 2 casualties and people start trashing me for being on the edge of the map and i get downvoted. Not a special story, i know, this is how it usually goes. The way i deal with karma. I never downvote for lack of skill. If you don't move within 30s at the start of the game, i will downvote you afk. If you trashtalk other people or your team in general, i will downvote you for misbehaviour in chat. If you show exceptional teamplay (the bar for exceptional isnt that high), i will upvote for that. If you show constructive behaviour in chat, i will upvote for that. Thing is, the first 2 things happen so much more than the latter 2, so yes, there is probably a lot more downvoting than upvoting.

What Were Your Greatest Gaming Achievements Today ?
Alchemist79 replied to Hanszeehock's topic in General Discussion
I finished grinding for my Des Moines ! (and my final Buffalo game was a nice ranked game with 4 kills.) -
How about we all make them a deal: They remove CVs and Subs, we all spend 100€, maybe that would pay for their relocation costs. If they implement a system where i can commit my 100€, but my money is only payed when these ships are removed, i will sign for it. Are there a few 1000 more like me ?

A Look Through Time: Italian Destroyers

So what are the tree achievements to get in the mini game ? I see no explanation for them.
