Ichase has reviewed the Azuma now. He also doesn't like it. Effectively this ship should be played like a Zao or Henri but both ships are far better at that playstyle. These super cruisers are such tempting targets 60 sec fires (most still use the ruder shift mod) Armour penned by almost all HE Armour overmatched everywhere by almost all BBs in it's matchmaking spread. Big citadel shaped to take the most damage possible. Big slow target. I'm not buying.

Yoshino is coming. Hopefully its better than Azuma with it's 30mm casemate(and deck?)

Yes, an IFHE destroyer can do that to any cruiser. 60 second fires are common to all super cruisers. I would have liked to seen comparative citadel shots on the Azuma and it’s rivals.

Who estimated that? The freexp ship prices increased due to the far greater ability to gain freeXP quickly. Coal is fairly new and just as easy to acquire now so I would argue the Yoshino should be priced similarly to the Salem. Got over 350,000 coal waiting anyway...

That would sense. Six guns against destroyers is painful but secondaries would act as a short range defense.

I've been using my Henri a lot today. Double citadelled an Azuma at 16km. Hit many Alaska broadsides at various ranges, no citadels. The citadel should be lower, above the waterline but not this easy to hit. (Alaska's could probably stand to come up to the waterline also.)

Notser doesn't seem that impressed with it. He mentioned something about Graf Spee dispersion at closer ranges and it did look ok at close range. From what I've seen the Iowa is probably better.

Moskva legendary is very good. if you enjoy the ship you will get it anyway so no need to spend.

That’s the handy thing about Republique. It has far lower DPM the the Alsace but can pen DDs and superstructure without IFHE.

DDs can citadel almost any light cruiser at that range. You can’t citadel a DD!

I agree wholeheartedly! I just wanted to point outa contribution made by Little White Mouse. Azuma would need Donskoi accuracy to be decent with that armour and citadel.

For relevance to this thread, she does compare dispersion of Azuma vs Alaska. the guns do look a fair bit more accurate.

A word of caution on Alsace IFHE secondaries. if you spend 4 points on IFHE you are still only going to penetrate Destroyers and cruiser and battleship superstructure. Without IFHE you can pen superstructure of DDs and cruisers. So is penning DD hulls and battleship superstructure worth 4 points? I really don’t think it is

True. I do still have a secondary build on the Republique but mostly as destroyer defense. Theses Frenchies melt if you push. The Guns on the Jean Bart and Republique are also quite accurate and effective so there really is no need to brawl. The GK is very strong in a brawl and with IFHE will pen these French ships all over. it pays for this by being really quite poor at ranges above 13km. The GK is pretty well balanced. If you can sneak into secondary range you can really do a lot of damage to any class of ship. Often fun when you melt a conqueror with IFHE secondaries while citadeling a Yamato! At 15+km I think I would favour even a North Carolina in a duel.

If the french get 1/4 pen they would be far stronger than the germans. Bismarck and FDG make around 512,000 DPM while the Alsace and Jeanbart clear 770,000 DPM with higher fire chance, 50% higher. 1/4 pen would allow them to penetrate 32 mm of armour with IFHE and make them beastly against almost any ship.

Exactly. You can’t do massive damage to them but they will struggle to do massive damage to you.

I’m not sure I’d spend money on a T3. There aren’t that many people and you probably won’t play it much. It is a good ship though.

Hmm... waiting for Yoshino because I know I won’t play the Azuma once I’ve got it. Shame they didn’t keep the Azuma as an accurate glass cannon, a T9 Molotov.

It would have been better if you could swap your heal for a smoke. It’s a strong ship but uninteresting and weaker than the Furutaka.
