Sounds right. Another change Wargaming made was to increase the amount of single tier games. That went a long way towards preventing the games where you would be the only tier 8 in a game of tier 10s. Wargaming have improved this as well as they can but that has made tier 7 a little less fun.

The big armour changes between tier 7 and 8 make it far worse to be a bottom tier tier 7 than tier 8. At tier 7 every battleship overmatched you but at tier 8 only two can. Cruiser armour increases mean a bottom tier tier 7 will face cruisers that 381mm guns cannot overmatch. I suggested this outcome and that perhaps tier 8 ships are best equipped to deal with being bottom tier due to the way plating stays the same to tier 10. Many didn’t agree, matchmaking changes were made. Now you will be bottom tier in a tier 7 almost as much as a tier 8 but be far less capable of dealing with it.

Well i’ll miss half of this grind and then will have to knock off snowflakes. I will struggle to complete this. I wonder how 12,000 doubloons would speed up the grind.

Find a position where you can angle against all enemy ships then tank damage while setting fires on battleship and citadel cruisers. Don't roam around, it just doesn't work with this ship. This ship can tank millions of potential damage when bow on but when broadside it eats citadels better than probably any other cruiser.

The sliding benefit only lasts a short time followed by a long time of being near stationary and a sitting duck. The current system encourages you to get off the border as soon as possible which is perfect in my mind.

Wargaming are still advertising this ship as ‘highly accurate’ and that it excels in long range engagements. Looking at the stats and recent tests that seems to be untrue.

Battlecruiser? She has an appalling 1000m turning circle! Scharnhorst has a 800m turning circle with a similar ruddershift. Even the FDG has a tighter turning circle! this is NOT an agile ship!

What they should have done is buffed German accuracy by 7% then remove the option of aiming systems mod in the third slot. This would reduce the penalty of a secondary build. They could also increase base secondary range and/or dispersion. 5-10% increase in range and at least 20% on dispersion Massachusetts is even now a better secondary ship than the Germans and has a much lower penalty for secondary builds. The Massa can’t mount the aiming systems mid even if it wanted to! I’m a secondary fiend and even I have removed IFHE and the secondary module from all my German battleships except the Tirpitz B.

Massachusetts is the best, great secondaries really melt destroyers at close range. The commander though will be different to other USN battleships so that might be an issue for some. Lenin has much better accuracy at close range and much better armour though both ships can be citadelled. I really cannot recommend the Tirpitz not because it’s weak but because the Massachusetts does almost everything better. However, at least the rest of the KM battleships can use the captain.

And all the big armour changes of battleships and cruisers. This ship can’t overmatch most tier 8 cruisers but will be overmatched by every tier 8 battleship.

PSA: For £4 more you can get the Lenin. Get it instead!

Radio location Atago for me. Should be able to kill anything with that. A radar cruiser could work. A battleships being stealth torped for twenty minutes with no hope of seeing the destroyer would be no fun at all!

1.70 sigma with normal battleship dispersion and no 25mm overmatch? Not for me. Just noticed that Wargaming calls the guns ‘highly accurate’ similar dispersion to the Gneisenau and worse sigma. Something is wrong here!

Odd that when they buffed the USN battleships they left the Montana out. Perhaps the Germans should have got the buffed heal and Americans then improved accuracy. Would have made more sense.

I see very few Wichita’s which would put me off buying one. . Irian is a very strong ship. Great long range HE spam and great deepwater torpedoes. Bayard is strong but I don’t have it so cannot really pass judgement on it. Boise, Atago and Prinz Eugen are very strong due to their heal. Atago is probably the most Versatile of the three due to stealth topping and excellent accuracy. tier 8 is a funny place for cruisers as all tier 9 cruisers have a heal. If I was only buying one I would buy one with a heal. The Perth is like a tier 6.5/7 Huange He but kept at tier 6! A very strong ship but as you suggested, very similar to the Huang he in playstyle.

I getting used to SAP now. I often seem to get 1000 dmg per shell hit In the Amalfi. That’s what I expect from the super cruisers such as Alaska and Kronstadt. Of course in the super cruisers you get pens, overpens and citadels. With SAP they’re all pens. It feels strong when you use it like AP, targeting ships that aren’t well angled.

In spite of what I have said earlier, I’m now enjoying the Amalfi. The flat trajectory of the shells makes a big difference. I’ve averaged 68k in the first 13 battles which is pretty good for me. If you are driving this thing you really must shoot at every destroyer in range. It’s hilarious. Next target are cruisers and broadside battleships. German battleships: aim for the superstructure. Russian battleships: find a difference target.

None of my black ships have gone Micheal Jackson.

SAP is underwhelming, it seems the AP is more consistent. I can still target the superstructure if a ship is angled. SAP doesn't seem to do anydamage to a well angled hull. SAP bounces all over even T6 battleships such as Fuso and Normandy, hardly well armoured ships! AP bounces just like SAP. AP pens broadside targets readily. SAP only seems better against destroyers (amazing) and cruisers when angled a little more than AP would like. The problem with this is that when fighting cruisers you really want AP ready in case they overly soften their angle. AP seems to be decent, had a game this morning with 14 citadels which was fun and two out of three games achieved high caliber. Smoke is useful for turning.

I play ransoms but have never done clan battle and only completed one ranked sprint. I received 9000 steel last year and would have made a lot more than that this year if they hadn’t changed the terms. I simply convert to coal when needed and resign myself to the fact I will never get a steel ship.
