Yes the solution is easy as well, you supernerf the CVs or you enlarge the maps or both. IMO though the older carriers could not destroy whole fleets. Then again, 12 ships packed in a tight map can hardly be called a fleet, LOL. Each BB should have at least 6 destroyers, a cruiser another 2, and then the CV...

Why do I suddenly fail so badly at tier 7?
BLUB__BLUB replied to Praevasc's topic in General Discussion
...or he does it like me, he hangs around after getting BBQed, looking at what the teammates are doing, meanwhile thinking "WTF". I have the same sort of problem in T7, usually because I get uptiered. The ships are different, but the playstyle is too. In King George V this is not good (bowtanking, the usual BB thing in T8/9, doesn't work. I can pen nothing but they all can pen me even cruisers). In Hood, much less of a problem. In a T7 game no problems with either, if most others are T6 or even T5 I even start to feel sorry for them... The main problem, looks like everyone is hiding in a cave, then whenever something gets detected, they all jump on it like a bunch of vultures. Which is the problem if you try to do something usefull... yes then you get detected... and shot by at least half the enemy team. i wonder what T8 will be like... LOL. -
Good remarks. The biggest problem with carriers is unfortunately that this is an ARCADE game. In which we have a very very small map.... easily covered by 1 CV. Easily dominated by 1 CV. Normally no way a CV could cover the entire enemy team and spot/kill al his DDs. Uh. and we have lots of problems due to that. So yes the CVs will get ubernerfed. Same as submarines, when they'll come.
-
I have seen many movies about it, and am aware of its historic significance. I can understand why Japanese people will want it. Sort of like Hood (I have that), Bismarck, Tirpitz... But I am quite sure most here do not know and just go for the biggest guns.
-
Yeah I was being kinda cynical...
-
WarThunder planes is great, except their awful MM / tier thing. Imagine Bismarck becoming tier 1 because there's many potatoes playing it.
-
But it is. You are OMNIPOTENT. It is exactly what is wrong with CVs.
-
Anyone can have a global view of the battlefield, just press the M button. Which I do not, for the reasons you mentioned under this... In fact it is also on the Minimap but I try not to look too much. One ship being able to kill 3 DDs alone is what is wrong. Maybe that is where they hide when they see a CV... they do not like to go the same way of those 3 DDs (= down). I have been tempted to do that myself, when I see a CV. Inevitably it ends with me getting bombed/torped to the bottom. And yeah, óverectended', happens pretty quickly when the rest of the team is in hiding. Good. A bit more fun, as opposed to being (or having to be) the all-empowered, is probably nice.
-
I agree to that. Even IF they decide to have 'invulnerable AA' or something like that, later in game there is usually no more other ships to hide behind. I hope they keep that in mind, else we get a CV that does nothing in the first half (hides on map border) and just kills everything later. Like BBs borderhugging... and even worse, the CV doesn't even have to come forward to be able to kill.
-
With torps they usually also attack from the front, at an angle. Just so to make t you steer into them, and then if you do (large fat BBs rudder shift...) they just change it a little when you are turning, so you are properly screwed. But this port/starboard thing is really literally a 'misfire'.
-
Then it will be a matter of luck for the CV player what he gets... potato pilots or not... Maybe it is a better idea to put in fighters with pilot control. I bet WoWP players would like that. Let them take off from the CV, and they'd have to protect it too. Once CV = dead, they lose. Leave the CV in command of the bombers and torps, let the fighters have the rockets.
-
TBH the team is sometimes pure crap. Usually it is a few guys pulling a cart of potatoes, and no matter how hard you pull the cart goes downhill - just a matter of who ends in the ravine first.
-
In that case it wouldn't matter which one you shot... so it would then be useless to pick one. They did say something about left or right, but probably meant more 'which side of the ship'. Duh, then what happens, front or rear attack... Yes, which is really not good, I do like the idea of a 'battle between DD and CV'. Although mostly I had that while using Leander.
-
Yes, but if it is 3 max I'd pick the middle one... and I think if you'd change the course mid-aim then the aim gets less accurate. I'd only start shooting when you begin the run, too (and shut it down after launch... no new planes from me hehehehe) Yes that would be a good thing, and absolutely fine. New planes also do not pop up in real, they have to be fueled, prepared, and hoisted from the hangar. Also the pilot has to be kicked out of bed and get some coffee.
-
You could maybe, but I do not see how. You'd get a free new shiny plane, of course. But if I can take out 1 (or 2) planes that means there's a hole where I can manage to escape. Plus less torps/bombs. But they'll rework the AA for ships as well, maybe what we get is 'a certain amount of minutes def AA'. And then shutting it down and turning it on, until 'ammo is depleted', using CTRL+P.
-
in Maybe there needs to be more of a sliding scale. Aiming time ---> better spread More AA ---> worse spread AA + 'Ctrl klick' --> take out one plane specifically, create a hole in the spread. I'd like that as well. But it would also have a need for bots.
-
Yup. I bet he also came back after killing you and still killed the Bismarck, too. In the new meta, I'd wait until I was sure he was coming for me, too. And maybe I'd put CTRL+P after he passed. After all no use killing his planes after the deed is done, he'll get new ones. Better send him back with crippled planes...
-
This is a good idea, else we get kamikaze CVs anyway. They'll just go for it no matter the risk. What risk? Dead planes are better than damaged ones. I'm not saying they should run out of aircraft. But maybe after spending 20 prime ones, all they have is Swordfish carrying flowerpots... Depends on what you think. It could also be the CV is making a smooth move, you think he is going for the BB but when you arm the AA, then he pulls back and after the AA-prime-time is spent, he is coming for you. And he'll be back for the BB later... which is what I would do.
-
They could use that in WG, easily. Simply: - fly to high and you do not detect anything that has X concealment (so, you only detect the fat BBs); - fly to low and you get shot at... It will be hard to detect DDs and some cruisers. And if they fly low to spot, there is a danger that they get shot down. Also, they could use 'kaputt bombers' to do it, if they are too damaged to survive another run. The main thing is they should not be allowed to KEEP a ship spotted. At least not 'free and forever'.
-
Basically AA is just grenades shooting up, where they explode there is a black puff. But the danger is the shrapnel that is created in that explosion, ripping through the plane, plus of you are under it the plane might get some big holes due to the actual grenades coming up. A 'mushroom' zone of damage (the stem doing less damage than the 'hat') would do fine. The visual effects could be more or less 'puffs', depending where the most AA is concentrated. .
-
Actually it is only the same if you'd count those planes as Kamikaze.... expendable ammo? Battleships had plenty ammo to shoot for 20 minutes straight, so did cruisers. OK torps is another matter (especially the reload, the supply even weirder). However.... most later carriers had loads of planes so 'de-planing' should not be an issue unless you really go nuts. I DO think a certain amount of damage on planes should add up to make them less effective after a while. After all this is also happening to the guns and all that - at the end of the battle many AA-batteries have been shot off. Oh, and many AA cruisers deleted, too. Maybe make it so that if too many planes get shot down, the pilots get 'more careful' (worse hitrate) ? Hahaha and if the CV sends a few waves of which no planes come back they even give him the finger. Could make it a 4 point skill in 'pilot motivation' (prevents the finger). How about something where you'd need to get a certain "score vs damage", else the pilot bails out when the plane gets damaged? And then you'd need to retrain the pilots in co-op... to re-gain their confidence!

Shima hit me with a volley of 13k+ HE
BLUB__BLUB replied to anonym_RGvUdEcxWWvD's topic in General Discussion
The reverse thing sometimes happens to me. I am looking at a juicy cruiser, and then he shoots me. But meanwhile, I haven't noticed some big fat BB (might be undetected) targeting me as well... -
Too much automated stuff takes away the active gameplay. Maybe make it so they'd actively have to fly the fighters. Not actually do aircombat (it can be, when they finally merge all the games), but at least guide them over 'target'. The problem with current meta was similar. Post fighters over a target, and it stayed spotted. Then go get the bombs & torps and send the ship to the bottom. No escape. Unless you had (another automatic thing) insane AA on that ship.
-
Part of the 'problem' is that this is not really hard. You 'assign' something and then you can just forget about it. It is like, when in a BB, assign the guns to shoot at a certain target, so you can forget about it. Not really a skill... and not active gameplay.
-
I probably sit in one of those targets... played CV a bit but the way it is (was...) played was simply not my taste. This looks more tasty. But I do think it is dumbed down too much.
