Vanguard: lacking something to be good
BLUB__BLUB replied to __Helmut_Kohl__'s topic in General Discussion
Monarchs AP is a big relief after KGV... didn't realise the HE is actually any good though. Had to check myself to see it. Thought it was much less than that. But thanks for the tip, mine is at 32% though because of IFHE (captain from KGV). Never realised that either, I guess I now got my wish having the QE guns on the KGV, just one tier up. Makes sense why I have less problems with Monarch than I had with KGV. Maybe I'll even like Vanguard... Naaahhh better Hood and Warspite for me. Because that's a valid point you have there. Warspite/QE guns at tier 8, never realised that. Good one. -
FdG, the most frustrating ship out there
BLUB__BLUB replied to SNAPHAAN's topic in General Discussion
All the reasons you have named make sense. But here's the problem. Or a few. I do not HAVE TO get close, nor do I have to aim carefully. It is a big piñata, almost impossible to miss it. Just have the correct distance (20km won't do, but stay > 10km). And you will never fight a FdG 1v1. Everyone wants a piece of it. A 25% health FdG is like a shell magnet. I think you know already that "8 is more than 4" but 6 is still more than 4, too. Seems most of then do not know that... Biggest problem, you cannot rotate the front guns independent from rear. That is usually what gets them. Because in many situations, you want to fire the rear guns at the ones attacking from right, and the front guns at the ones attacking from left... and a matter of positioning. The FdG is really too fat to position anywhere. In many ways it is like a Musashi - except I do fear those guns. Probably more people run them that can actually aim, or it is just better. -

I find that a LOT better than KGV.... Thanks for the tip. I must see I finish the grind then before the nerf strikes. Haven't got FDG but yesterday I had my Monarch crap all over one of them... easy. Grats on that one then, I hope you killed lots of cruisers... I only met lots of (T8 and T9 too) bowcamping BBs.Those puny guns really can't do much. DoY is just a smart WG-trick selling people a 'better KGV'... but it is not, and stats show it. Lyon has lots of barrels, it's actually a HE-spamming fat armoured cruiser IMO. Scharnhorst is a great cruiser killer. I guess really good players have no problem with it. I'd not want it. You can think so... DoY is really weak, Scharnhorst much weaker than Gneisenau. Lyon is actually really good because of the many guns and the speed. Still really the only ship that is worse than KGV is probably that FdG, poor sods that have to grind it. -
Maybe when they introduce submarines they should make them available for steel. Or lots and lots of coal.

FdG, the most frustrating ship out there
BLUB__BLUB replied to SNAPHAAN's topic in General Discussion
The fattest you can get is 45 degrees, much more than I'd normally f do. But somebody else already pointed that out. I still think it is a suckboat, glad to be rid of it. BTW in Monarch I'll take on FDG so probably that is also not the best... -

I really hate it. The Queen E is better, I think. I'd even prefer it in a T8 game. The Monarch is indeed better, but not by much. Well, I am used to fire AP, so it is a total break in playstyle. Monarch is better for me (better AP) but still... narf. Somehow with KGV you're better off showing LOTS of broadside than the usual angling. Probably it's just (or mainly) me. But good riddance, I survived it (WR didn't but well... that's not just me). I can understand OP though. Some ships just DO NOT WORK for some people. -
Reasons behind "Roflstomps"
BLUB__BLUB replied to RenamedUser_92906789's topic in General Discussion
That time, I was in the Arizona - and that thing really packs a punch. Me and Boat sort of carried the team, with the CV. Yeah I keep having those games too. Usually I end up getting uptiered in the Bone-Argh, but then you FINALLY get a T8 game, and what happens, either your team roflstomps the enemy because they have some of those 'hide and seek' players, or you have them on your team - which means you end up somewhere halfway, with futile damage, win or lose. Usually lose as this damage sponge is in no position to carry anything (not even its own weight, I struggle to get average 60k in it). Nowadays I stick a ramming flag on it and hope to ram a Currywurst. Top score. -

You complaining? I bet you haven't tried the King George V yet. ANY BB same tier can overmatch its bow, but you cannot overmatch any of t your tier and cannot even overmatch some lower tiers... Means they shoot at you and get cits, and you shoot at them you get shatters. And then you find out that after you have passed the grind, they give you Monarch - which is the same ship, with bigger guns (losing the insane HE-fire though) and slightly more armour, at Tier 8... -
Reasons behind "Roflstomps"
BLUB__BLUB replied to RenamedUser_92906789's topic in General Discussion
I quoted the above posts because they are related. And because it shows a clear issue. Some game a few days ago I had a guy tell me I had the most horrible stats ever, and he was sure we'd lose (we won, and i ended up 3rd of the team but hey). Basically he was sort of right though, because my stats ARE horrible. Especially if you use some kind of mod that checks out 'player stats'. But how do you get good stats when you are grinding the worst ships of T7/T8 and are getting constantly uptiered? Well, you don't. My divmate is kinda unicum in DDs (he's pretty good) but he has the same winrate.... just has a better ship when he plays a BB. I guess the better thing to do is camp... Maybe give the guy what he wants and replace him by a bot? Smells like a hidden-stat-hugging camper to me. Or maybe he has even worse stats and that's why he hides them, usually I am not last place of the team so maybe that's him hahahaah Point is: stats are stats but not tell-all. People may just be busy grinding an awful ship to get to the next (hopefully better) one. -
EXACTLY this. The 'randoms' game is MEANT TO BE BROKEN. Because only YOU can make it work, by teamplay, AKA gathering two friends. Now, I see a lot of potatoes that have no friends (somehow, that makes sense too). CV +2AA divisions, yes they are hard to counter. But should you? Hmmm... what if you could? The fun is to try - I am in a clan and mainly we are idiots.Yes really. We will do fail divisions, sometimes. We will also do 3xDD divisions and 2xDD divisions. Even 3x Omaha divisions... just because IT IS FUN if you manage to do good that way. If you manage to beat a CV+2AA division while running a 3x Omaha division... man that is A WHOLE MONTH OF HILARIOUS. But I guess a lot of peeps here just do not understand that kind of fun. I think WG does understand. Either that or they're just mad.

I have IFHE on the KGV, it was the only thing that made the ship better. At least now you could kill cruisers with it and pierce BB-camper noses. Without it, the AP only tickled them a bit... The HE sets nice fires but somehow (strangely!) even better with IFHE.
-
I think you are correct. After the rework, I might even start playing CVs. I'll not do it now, because it is (to me) boring as hell. But I can smell the problem a mile away. They'll probably turn CVs into guided missile launchers, or looks like they will. They'll do direct (alpha) damage as well as DoT, having the option to do more alpha right after AND set the DoT again after somebody used the DC. A CV could also loiter around to await the end of DoT (be it bij DC or time) and then just set it going again. Plus an unlimited supply of these guided missiles. Yeah no way that is gonna end up well. Unless: - there is a way to disrupt/stop the guided missiles (kill the planes/damage them so they're not so 'guided'anymore); - put an end to the 'unlimited supply (not having unlimited planes and needing to repair them would be a good idea); - the victims have better options to manage the DoT (which there isn't, as it would nerf DDs and cruisers depending on HE).

D'uh, I'd prefer New Mex and Queen Elizabeth to King George V (which is said to be very good, but I found it bloody awful) even if uptiered to T8 (or 9... fail division) so slooowwwwww is not a real problem. Might give it a try then. New Mex goes anyway, I have Arizona. The main problem, you have to be sure where you are going and stick to it, as there is no getting back... no escape. So either you fight and win or go down in flames. I usually play in a div so I always have support, which helps (well sort of).
-
Might be the thing for me then... I was wondering if I should skip it. But i like New York and the New Mexico. I will not keep New Mexico because I have an Arizona (otherwise I would). But they say it is baaaaadddd.... Then again many people say the KGV is glorious, and I thought that sucked heaps. One of the Youtubers also said it sucked badly, and that Monarch was just the KGV again at T8, and I agree with him...

What is your most frustrating "Premium" ship?
BLUB__BLUB replied to Leo_Apollo11's topic in General Discussion
Really guys? I have the Hood and I love it to bits. By far the most accurate BB (well, battlecruiser) that I have. I did have a Queen Elizabeth, Warspite is supposed to have even better accuracy - and boy do I miss the QE, having to blunder through KGV and Monarch. After reaching tier X (to be able to play Clan Battles with the dudes, and get steel) I'm buying back the QE or getting me a Warspite. Most frustrating premium ship... I'd say the Campbelltown... man I do suck badly at playing DDs. Maybe I should just put a ramming flag on it and use it as a fat torpedo. -
Do you mean, that after hating the King Grog tha Filth and severly disliking tyhe Bone-Argh, There is more misery to come? Oh man the horror. Maybe I had better start grinding the US BBs, even though Colorado is said to be a horror. I kept New York, and have Arizona. Will also keep Leander. Have Hood. Kept Omaha... I'm not that far beyond T6 so might keep some more or even buy back some of them. Looking for cheap Warspite or might get back Queen Elizabeth. Haven't got any IJN stuff yet and not much Russian.

Use IFHE on a Monarch, even funnier...

Stupid would be if you are on a team that does not understand it is crucial to kill those two cruisers. Now, in a team that has 12 players (and one CV) you expect to have at least 1 or 2 with a brain. I will try to kill at least one of those cruisers. Hope I get help from other teammates. If I am lucky OUR DD will understand he must spot those cruisers, so we can kill them. You do not NEED to bring a CV+2xAA division. A two-man div (BB + DD) will do fine. Cruiser + BB is good, too. Maybe you will not win - but the enemy CV division will have a damn hard time. And I haven't seen such an enemy division without my team at least having any sort of division as well. Usually, there are at least TWO divisions per side. Cooperation DOES make up for lack of talent... OK, then again, I run a T8BB in many (uptiered) T10 games and haven't seen a lot of brain... Many times we ran a 3x BB division and steamrollered the whole enemy team including the CV. Man. Awesome. CV attacked us, but we stuck together and all he did was hit a few torps, and lose all his planes. None returned. We kept going vaguely in the direction where we thought the cruisers would be, killed one. And then we killed the CV. The problem is NOT that there is an enemy CV+2xAA division. The problem is when the division on YOUR side is a potato division. But that cannot be helped by WG - it can only be helped if YOU get a division of your own that is NOT potato. And it is easy. Get one of the better players from that last 'failed' game, engage chat, no doubt he will want to form a division with you. The problem there is, if YOU are the potato, he may want to pick somebody else... And YES this is a team game. FORM a team. It makes your game BETTER. There's no need to form a CV+2xAA team, though.
-
Just make sure you do have some limit to the disasters they can do. Although... potatoes just floating around is hard to prevent. But preventing unicums from slaughtering the whole team should be do-able. Or at least not make it too easy.

halloween Submarines! Submarines everywhere!
BLUB__BLUB replied to Tuccy's topic in General Discussion
I have the idea you are working on it already... depth charges working as intended. But it is going to be a LOT of work fixing up all destroyers and most cruisers with that. Anyway - looking forward to subs in future ops, and after that in randoms. Finally something to blast those camper BBs out of the water. They deserve it. -
I'll join in too, I have one of these things:
