views on the HOOD/KONGO and the Siegried
BLUB__BLUB replied to TheSeaFARMER931's topic in General Discussion
Jutland was indeed the deciding factor. But here's what the experts say. ANyway in WG it is a BB, and rightly so. http://www.hmshood.com/history/construct/design.htm -
so far, Nurnberg, Konigsberg and the next doesn't look like much better either.

views on the HOOD/KONGO and the Siegried

The thing is, Hood can replace a BB. Something like Spee can't. Also... after last refit, Hood was better armoured than the Queen Elizabeths. Yes, it was designed as a "battlecruiser"... but after lessons learned at Jutland, the armour was changed. The speed stayed though. ALso has the same guns as the Queen Elizabeth. So, in WoWS, it can be a BB. -
Man it has triple-gun turrets, right? Sometimes I dare look what happens to the shells. One goes up, one down-and-keft and the third goes right to almost hit my teammate. Oh and I know Currywurst. It is a secundary battery that farts bananas. I had one at 7km, thinking "this is it, the end" and he missed me completely... Hindy is nice. The only rental that I liked. Hating the grind so far though. Why does every line have to have a GD MF meh boat. And why does "German cruisers" have three?
-
Heheheheh remember I have Conqkek, the part about crap and walls applies. You sort of fart in their general direction, not really "aim". Well you can pretend, of course. Was thinking that too. I have the Conqkek but my clan usually has Currywurst or Montanananana. So I get to drive a cruiser. Might as well get something I'm better with than those rentals.

Smoke dependency is not great in CB, because the people that play it are very good. Smoke hides yourself, but also means you do not spot... I do not even need to own it to know it... Yeah will. The problem of moneymaking still will play, unless I buy a dubloon-perma-camo. I get lots of bounces on Salem/DM, and they have good heal. They shoot further, too.
-
The way I use Conqkek is a bit different - I go in max close range undetected and then I blap things with AP. That is how I know which ships are blappable (from whatever angle). DM and Salem are a pain, I usually can't blap them and they require HE-spaming from range. or sometimes they go broadside (yeah and then BLAP indeed).
-
Well, if I'd take these same planes to hit a Bismarck or something 5km away from him, one is missing. Means might lose a torp or a bomb. At least if he'd shoot at the FIRST plane... not sure if now, might only lose one damage sponge.
-
If a DD spots something, the DD is at risk of having his butt pounded. At least sort of... And if a DD spots you, you can at least get away. Or you know it is there and you expect / avoid torpedoes. Kinda fair... CV spots you, but you cannot hit it... and usually you cannot even take revenge and kill a few planes.

CV population according to "spreadsheets"
BLUB__BLUB replied to ChatBanForSayingTruth's topic in General Discussion
PR damage? LOL. And how do you know the work wasn't done by cheap labourforce. I can imagine... -
It can't be much different than Smolensk, or Mino or whatever. The disadvantage for me would be blappability, I think DM/Salem is better. But I have none of them and Smolensk is still WIP. Still I know I'm not gonna take Yoshino or Azuma... they are VERY blappable.
-
Same way usually happens: because the battle ends in 3 minutes, for reason of team melting like snow in Hawaii. I can do > 100k in CV, and > 150k in Conqkek, but I need more than 3 minutes... quite often, you don't get the time. Basically I need a ship that can go YOLO first few minutes and then (if the game > 3 minutes) can do something else as well. Ever seen a DM go dakka? I think it can't get much better, dakka-wise. But the main thing for me is: Salem has good resistance and a heal. AND more than 15k reach... means you can at least blap DDs before they can blap you. I usually can't blap it when playing Conqkek, while I CAN blap stuff like a Mino. BTW I'd rather have 2x2 than 4x1 turrets... sometimes they get disabled, and if you have 4 guns in them... PROBLEM!

Mwah... I think planes should work like this: - "cruising" altitude where they are relatively safe, and fast, to get to their destination. They'd spot ships but only "vaguely", on Minimap. But ships can't shoot them down either. Spotting range this way would be very short, as in 5km or so, anything else goes --> last known position. Maybe if they are right over it it would show "BB"or "cruiser"or "DD" symbol on minimap. Or maybe something like, has no long range AA, will not be spotted from high up. To find out what it is they spotted, they'd need to get down. - "working" altitude where they can spot, and attack, but then they are also are under fire. And they'd be slower there so AA has time to work them over and ships can react to them. Also, as soon as they go back the spotted ship returns to "minimap only" ---> last known position. And yes this requires that the AA work 'gradually', the closer to the ship the heavier the AA gets. But all ships would get the AA started as soon as spotted. This sort of mechanic is already in place (long, middle, short AA). Means ships that only have short AA (DDS) can be spotted only as far as they AA reaches.
-
I often do, or take up position behind an island when I see something coming on the Minimap. If it is a lone DD and I have nothing better ATM I'll certainly go chase and kill it.
-
I think it is fair if YOU see it when you get near, but not other ships that WOULD NOT see it. After all the spotting is pretty much risk-free. Which is, IMO, very wrong. Spotting is a role of CVs... but should be such, that when spotting something, it also SHOOTS AT YOU.
-
Doesn't, really. If a DD is spotted on the minimap it still tells me there's a DD there. If I am in Fiji I will go look for it and try kill it, if I am in a fat slow BB I make sure I get my bum outta there. But the way it is now, lit up like the planes are a ship that RISKS HIS ARSE to spot it... no.
-
I'm OK with no-spotting CVs, but it would mean they become just damage dealers. Also, IRL they had to 'hang over that U-boat'. Then guide their teammates to them. No w they just fly past, the rest is "free and no risk". IMO they should do spotting, and it should be their task - but should come at a risk. As in, lotering planes should be easy to shoot down. Yes that's true. But SOME instinctiveness should remain. Shooting the last-attacking plane in a squad isn't one of them, really.
-
Well, it will take me a while yet to come to DM - and with Salem I'll be able to use it profitably in TX, too. Grind credits instead of losing them (as will be the case with DM, I fear). That nerfed range of Smolensk is not really what I'm looking for either... I want to kill DDs.

What should WG focus on improveing first?
BLUB__BLUB replied to SmokyButtons's topic in General Discussion
WG should first focus on defining what the problem is before throwing more half-arsed "fixes" in the game. -
YES - that is "as should be". CVs didn't spot everything IRL either. They saw 'something"but then they needed TO GO IN FOR A CLOSER LOOK. As such, spotting IS a part that CVs play. Make them have 'cruise mode'(for flying to targets) and 'attack mode'. In attack mode they can spot (like now) but cruise mode they can't. Reward CV for spotting, too. And make DDs the little monsters that they were... DDs were often used for AA support. They are now, too. You get ZILCH for spotting. WG should just realise that is part of what CVs do. Those mechanics are already there... Yeah kinda duh really. makes me wonder, how can they not predict THAT wouldn't work...

CV population according to "spreadsheets"
BLUB__BLUB replied to ChatBanForSayingTruth's topic in General Discussion
They aren't thinking straight, I agree with @El2azer there. Og h and I forgot to add, that BB wil re-grow another DD in a few minutes. -
If you play CV you know how it works with rockets. You need the 'spotter fighter planes' to spot, else you'll lose sight of the DD > 2,5km. Then to aim, you first need to click to set target, where you expect the DD to be. Then fl y the planes as straight as possible to get maximum target aquisition. If you have to move the planes too much before you fire, the rockets spread out a lot. It should be possible to make it so YOU can see them but the others see them only on minimap. As it is similar when we have 'storm'.
-
They did not identify the problem in the first place. CVs spot ships. This is a large part of what they were meant to do. It comes 'for free'... this is not correct. It should be a skill (and rewarded as such). Planes while 'travelling to target' should spot, but those spotted should only be visible on the minimap. They should only be in full view when the planes are 'actively spotting'. And since most DDs were used as 'assistance AA'they should be quite dangerous to planes that try to spot them.
-
It is easy to fix. But you have to start with defining the PROBLEM first. Spotting DD (and everything else) comes 'free' to CV, which is the main problem.

CV population according to "spreadsheets"
BLUB__BLUB replied to ChatBanForSayingTruth's topic in General Discussion
I call that crap thought, and I even play CVs. Means that first strike will always get in. Just dump the one or two others... depending on how much damage sponge you need Like a BB having a DD in tow, if the BB attacks you, well, you shoot at that DD. That will teach him. I sunk his bloody DD.
